Getting Started
I'm going to help you to get your meteorites blown up before they strike you when you least expect it.

First, you build yourself a Solar Panel (5kW is more then enough), a Battery Pack and a Anti-Meteoryte System.

Getting your Solid Rocket A Kit
In order to get your Solid Rocket A Kit, you need 2 things. You need to have had opened up Meteor Defense (Mechanics Branch) in your tech tree. Secondly, you must have a Big Crusher (Materials Branch) to be able to print the kit.

Once it has been completed by your big crusher you can retrieve it from the printer container.
Assembly - The Rocket
To create your rocket you need to assemble it outside only and on the ground. These are the steps you need to take to create your rocket:

    1. Select your rocket from your inventory and place it on the ground around you. The Solid Rocket A Core is what all the parts are going to attach to.

    2. Then select the Rocket Camera.. Place the Rocket Camera on the highlighted section of the Solid Rocket A Core.

    3. Select your Battery Cell. Place the Battery Cell on the highlighted section of the Solid Rocket A Core.

    4. Select your Solid Rocket Segment A. Place the Solid Rocket Segment A on the highlighted section of the Solid Rocket A Core. (Repeat another 2 times)

    5. Select your Solid Rocket A Nose Cone. Place the Solid Rocket A Nose Cone on the highlighted section of the Solid Rocket A Core.

    6. Select your Solid Rocket A Nozzle. Place the Solid Rocket A Nozzle on the highlighted section of the Solid Rocket A Core.

    7. Select your Solid Rocket A Cover. Place the Solid Rocket A Cover on the highlighted section of the Solid Rocket A Core.

    8. Select your Solid Rocket A Winglet. Place the Solid Rocket A Winglet on the highlighted section of the Solid Rocket A Core.

    9. Pick up your complete Solid Rocket A. Walk on over to the Anti-Meteoryte System Crate and place Solid Rocket A into the crate and voila.

Now you can fill that bad boy up and have a maximum of 5 in the crate at 1 time. 1 rocket for each asteroid.

As this guide is quite old, I thougt to add where you can find some updates/testing of changes since the christmas update. Biggest change was that a rocket kit gives lots more rockets, as also the launcher holds lots more rockets.

LukazP description of the changes as part of the developers team

My own test setup for my base

My first base - I barely have enough stuff to power everything, on sol 21 this got pulverized(!) by a single meteor strike. "Repair the damage"? There was only small parts on the ground left all around the impact zone. I can not even research the necessary crusher system to print the defenses or had time to get the basic parts for rockets. I was busy trying to get enough solar power and batteries together to not have the plants die. Balanced is different. And I am not happy reading from the dev "there is a defense system" or " the place you build is bad" <- I can not choose where the rescue rocket descends and from there on the guidance does not tell you "seek shelter from meteorites" but to get a well going ASAP. Which then gets exploded. Well, dividing up now, second well, second workshop ... let's see how long that lasts. :corncob:

Don't assemble missiles manually. Instead:
1- Build a rocket assembly kit in the 3d-printer
2- Go to the workbench, drag the kit into the workbench field and press "assemble"
3- Wait a long time and press "take" when the 5-X-missile is finished
4 - Jump onto the launcher and let the 5x--missiles fall into the box
That's it.

Oh, by the way:
5-wait until the missiles fail to defend the meteors.

I haven't had the chance to play for a bit, but ill try to hop on this weekend. In the mean time you can ask on discord. Most of the people are really helpful

and has anyone else found they can assemble the rocket wrong? I wasn't able to put the battery in, but managed to assemble the rest of the rocket. So I am now looking at this rocket, battery in hand, wondering what the hell do I do now?

@huckleback you can assemble the kits in the workbench, same as you repair circuit boards and repair or upgrade tools

You can print it using the regular printer, without the big crusher

I have not tested this yet, but according to the description, the system only targets asteroids that specifically threaten the base and supposedly ignore others.

As of the date of this writing, you can now build the rocket kits in the 3D Printer. No need for the giant crusher.

It would make more sense if the rocket kit could be assembled on one of the work benches

With the current update I prefer using the big wind turbines. Saves a Small Circuit Board.
