What is Multiverse?
Multiverse is a massive overhaul, comparable to expansion packs of oldschool games. It includes many features such as new sectors, equipment, and even new species and endings! A large part of these additions were made possible thanks to the advent of the Hyperspace modding api, allowing to stretch the formerly greatly limited modding potential of FTL to new heights.

Using the Multiverse installer
(EDIT: Steam appears to be messing up the redirect links. If any Subset links return "The requested topic does not exist", remove amp; from the URL and it should work.)

This guide will cover the use of an .exe installer built to make the installation as convenient as possible for users not familiar with FTL modding. If you are already familiar with how to use Slipstream manager, you may want to download the raw files instead and patch them as you should, and install Hyperspace directly[subsetgames.com].
(If you already used Slipstream on your existing FTL game, DO NOT USE THE INSTALLER! This is because the installer is bundled with its own Mod manager, and two simultaneous instances of these are recipe for disaster.)

You can find the Multiverse releases at either of the links below:

FTL MULTIVERSE BOARD[ftlmultiverse.boards.net]

SUBSET GAMES MULTIVERSE THREAD[www.subsetgames.com]

From this page, you can find the necessary files to setup Multiverse, and learn more about the mod.

Once the file is downloaded and launched, the .exe will automatically find your FTL folder path. This is where the components will be extracted.

You'll also be asked if you want to download additional content. If you eventually figure you don't want to use these addons, you'll be able to toggle them off later on, which will be explained in the next section.

You'll additionally be asked if you want to create a dedicated shortcut. Personally, I do not bother with it, as launching through Steam keeps the tracking of game time and other Steam features, while still allowing you to access your newly downloaded content.

Toggling/updating existing mod content
If you'd like to update or toggle existing components, you'll have to explore your FTL folder. The installer has left you with a mods folder, which includes the mod files you can patch, and a ftlman.exe file, which will launch the FTL Manager when prompted. This program will manage the content of the mods folder.

Here's an example: among the addons you selected to install when using the installer, you chose the Renegade Collection. You then decide you don't want to play with it anymore.

To disable this addon, you'll have to run FTL Manager. You then need to click on every select file that you want to be active, then hit Apply, whilst making sure to select an appropriate Hyperspace version, through a slider list above the mod list.

Once the process is done, the next time Multiverse is launched, it'll include only the addons you selected. You must at minimum patch both Assets and Data to run Multiverse.

Updating Multiverse itself
With the process described in the previous section, you now also have the necessary knowledge to update the core Multiverse files, these being the Data and Assets seen in mods. Whenever a newer MV version is available, make sure you download the new available raw files to place in your mods folder (Load order is important, check the MV Read-me "file" included in the modlist if in doubt). You don't want to re-run the installer for each new release, that would be needlessly inefficient...

Hyperspace will also occasionally be updated to cover new features or fix critical issues. You can check the latest public version on the link below:

FTL HYPERSPACE LATEST RELEASE[github.com]

FTL Manager automatically retrieves the latest available Hyperspace versions, which you can select to apply in the Manager.
Troubleshooting
Due to Multiverse being more demanding, it is sadly not uncommon to encounter specific errors on the way. Thankfully, the installer method allows us to bypass a good amount of these.

You need at least 8GB of RAM to play Multiverse - you may not be able to launch it otherwise.

If you get a MinGW error box on your first launch, try launching the game again to see if it persists.

If this does not solve your problem, you can take a more thorough look in the thread below to see if your case is described, but ignore every mention of -opengl or -directx, as these are automatically handled by Hyperspace now.

Man, just came back to FTL again. Tried the new game Void Wars to scratch the FTL itch. Its not bad but not close to as good. I didn't realize there is a Multiverse, going to try it. Kudos to the author in creating it!

@Iguanatron When using the link, delete the word "amp" in the link and it'll bring you to a page saying that it doesnt exist, then hit the home button, FTL, Mods, Multiverse, and it should bring you there

I know it's very tempting to quickly skim over, but I assure you this is already addressed by the guide, right at the start of the second section
