How to install Half-Life 2: MMOD (Easy to follow guide)
Da xX_RaptorSc0pez_Xx
Half-Life 2: MMOD is a mod that adds a lot of improvements to Half-Life 2 (and Episodes 1 & 2) while still providing a vanilla-ish experience. It is a great way to play the game no matter if it is your first time playing or your tenth. In this guide, I will be showing you how to install it. There is another guide out there on how to do it but the creator added a lot of unnecessary steps and there is one VERY IMPORTANT step (bug fix) they failed to mention, so I recommend you follow this guide instead.

Prerequisites
Before anything, make sure you have Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One, and Half-Life 2: Episode Two installed:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/220/HalfLife_2/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/380/HalfLife_2_Episode_One/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/420/HalfLife_2_Episode_Two/
Installing Half-Life 2: MMOD
Step 1
Download the latest version of Half Life 2 MMOD from this link:
https://www.moddb.com/mods/hl2-ep2-enhased-mod/downloads

Once the mod has finished downloading, extract the .zip archive using WinRAR.

Step 2
Go into the extracted folder until you get into the folder named "PUT THESE INTO SOURCEMODS DIRECTORY". Delete all of the folders in this folder EXCEPT for:

HL2MMod
HL2MMod_EP1
HL2MMod_EP2
HL2MMod_HL2

Step 3
Copy the four remaining folders and paste them into the "sourcemods" folder found at
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods

Step 4
Restart Steam by going to Steam --> Exit at the top left of the Steam window and then relaunch Steam. Now if you go to your Steam Library you will notice you have

Half-Life 2: MMOD (Half-Life 2)
Half-Life 2: MMOD (Half-Life 2: Episode One)
Half-Life 2: MMOD (Half-Life 2: Episode Two)

all added to your library. Now, you could just press "Play" and be ready to go, but there is one more important step...
BUG FIX: MMOD settings reset each time you launch the original games
If you stop at the step above you will notice that every time you boot up the original games it resets all of your settings in the respective HL2: MMOD version and vice-versa.

Step 1
The only way to get around this is set all your settings how you want them in the default games (HL2, HL2 EP1, HL2 EP2) and then set all of their Config.cfg files to be "Read-only". You can find these Config files at the following locations:

Half-Life 2 -
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\hl2\cfg

Half-Life 2: Episode One -
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\episodic\cfg

Half-Life 2: Episode Two -
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\ep2\cfg

Step 2
Next, set your settings how you want them in the MMOD version of each game and then set those Config.cfg files to be "Read-only" aswell. They can be found here:

Half-Life 2: MMOD (Half-Life 2) -
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods\HL2MMod_HL2\cfg

Half-Life 2: MMOD (Half-Life 2: Episode One) -
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods\HL2MMod_EP1\cfg

Half-Life 2: MMOD (Half-Life 2: Episode Two) -
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods\HL2MMod_EP2\cfg

Note: The only setting this does not work for is the FOV, which no matter what will default to 90 when you load up the MMOD version of each game.

Once you do that you are all good to go! Enjoy!! :D
FOV FIX: Fix MMOD being capped at 90 fov
If you like to use a field of view higher than 90 then you will notice that you cannot actually set the fov above 90 in MMOD. In order to fix this, just download this mod:

HL2 - MMod Uncapped FOV above 90: https://gamebanana.com/mods/40729

Unzip the mod and copy the "bin" and "bin_episodic" folders found in the included MMod folder.

Then go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods\HL2MMod and paste them in there (make sure to click yes to Replace/Overwrite existing files).

I'm not understanding why HL2 main game will launch, but Episode 1 and 2 won't. Not sure what the deal is there.

HL2 MMod was working fine at first, but after reaching Route Kanal, the game would crash, and when I tried to start a new game at the start of Route Kanal, all of my weapons were invisible. I don't believe any of you would know what could be causing this, but if you have any kind of idea, please send help!

since nobody else bothered to actually ANSWER his question, mmod doesnt work on linux natively because it only has dlls for windows, the creator would have to compile a linux version separately. you can use proton to run the windows version of hl2 and it will work fine
