How to play custom levels and make your own

The aim of this guide is to show how to use the latest level editor mod to play and create Pizza Tower levels. Updated to try to correct the problems people have had with the installation.

About Create Your Own Pizza

Is the most complete and newest Pizza Tower's level editor to date, inspired by the old level editor from the game's betas, created by srPerez.

With this mod, you can create custom towers (yes, full towers) as well as levels, make and import your own resources such as music, titlecards, sprites and more. You can share the levels you create easily as well as play the customizable levels you want. All this in a separate menu that does not affect the base game, which is appreciated. Before moving on to how to install this mod, a little background on the current Pizza Tower mod scene.

About Pizza Tower's mods

To install mods in Pizza Tower you have two methods, I suggest to try both and check by your own which one is more comfortable or which one works for you: You can use the XDelta program to patch the data.win file of the game and install mods. The second option is to use the mod manager Pizza Oven[gamebanana.com], with which you can directly download the mods and order them, as well as decide which one to use when running the game.

It is important to note that, currently, you can only run one mod at a time. With the XDelta method you will have to reinstall the game every time you want to try another mod or play without one. This is not the case with Pizza Oven.

I encourage you to try both methods since, contrary to what I thought, not everyone likes or works with Pizza Oven. I think it is the best option because of its ease and quickness, but it is not the case for everyone.

How to install Create Your Own Pizza in Pizza Oven (First method)

Once in Pizza Oven and with the Pizza Tower file path set, use the Browse Mods function, if you set Featured or Popular mods, Create Your Own Pizza will come up easily. If you have a gamebanana account, you can comment on the page to suggest features and changes, as well as thank the person behind the level editor for creating it.


An important thing to keep in mind is that the mod is still in beta and is constantly being updated. Installing the Level Editor through Pizza Tower will make it notify you every time an update comes out and downloading that update easily.

Click on the mod and click on download, wait for it to download and when it finishes, go back to the mods section, select Pizza Oven and launch the game with the selected mod.



And in the main menu there will be a new option.

With Delta Patcher open, select the Pizza Tower data.win in 'Original File' and in 'XDelta patch' the file you downloaded from the CYOP page. Select 'Apply Patch'.
Note that this permanently changes the Data.win file, so if you want to play without mods or install other mods, backup the Data.win or reinstall the game.

The steam filepath of Pizza Tower is, if you did not change it:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Pizza Tower

The creation of custom levels

For this section I will cheat, the truth is that the creation of levels has its challenges. You can use the editor and experiment with it and learn by trial and error but sooner or later you will require proper guidance.

For this I highly recommend two documentations. The first one, the Github wiki made by the mod creator[github.com] where he explains how the editor works. I think there is no better option than this, being made by the same creator.

And if you want something more visual, this is the best video imo to understand how to use the editor.

Playing custom levels

For this, Pizza Oven or XDelta will not work, since the levels themselves are not patches, but folders that you need to put in place. But we will still use Pizza Oven to use the base level editor.

In their Beta 3 update of CYOP they added a simple and convenient level browser with which you can use filters and download levels easily. It works well.

If you want to download levels manually, use the Custom Levels section of the Pizza Tower section of Gamesbanana, download the levels or worlds that you are interested in and place them in the folder \AppData\Roaming\PizzaTower_GM2\towers

Done this, inside the game open Custom Towers and here! Custom level playable.

Small notes

At the time of the creation of this guide, the mod has been published a couple of weeks ago, this is still very new and I don't think we will see big great levels after weeks or months. The creator is still updating and changing the mod and the level editors are still experimenting and testing the capabilities of the system.

However, I think it's only a matter of time before there start to be cool levels, and little by little, Pizza Tower's customizable levels will be an incredible thing. Time to time.

The performance is very erratic, most of the time it goes poorly, except for specific types of levels. I would guess that it is a combination of two factors: The fact that the level editor is new and the fact that Pizza Tower developers would apply optimization techniques that level creators do not apply. This is just my guess.

Nice advice but Cyop And AFOM has a .po error and im pretty sure Cyop Requires you to Have the updates BEFORE NOISE UPDATE so yeah

The CYOP mod doesn't want to work at all, it always gives this error: [03/06/2024 18:49:47] [ERROR] ownpizza_final-3.xdelta wasn't able to patch any file. Ensure that either the mod or your game version is up to date. ownpizza_final-3.xdelta is intended for v.1.1.053. If this version number matches with your current game version go to E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Pizza Tower and delete data.win.po and anything else with a .po extension then verify integrity of game files and try again.
