Flashlights
If you are not sure how to use flashlights or how to save a survivor with a flashlight there are many guides and videos about this that are super helpful such as:

this video talks about absolutely everything you need to know about flashlights although please note the "Unique Killer Interactions" with Nurse, Hag, Wraith, Artist and Spirit have been removed with patch 6.7.0 April 2023

Background player
Background player is a Renato Lyra perk
(CHAPTER 27: Tools of Torment)

This perk is great for helping you get into position for the flashlight save and will save you from missing many flashlight saves.

Sprint burst (Meg Thomas BASE GAME perk) is a good replacement if you dont want to unlock this dlc.

Background player perk description:

You are not usually the centre of attention and in some cases, this can be a good thing.
When another Survivor is picked up, Background Player activates for the next 10 seconds:
- When you start running, break into a sprint at 150 % of your normal Running Movement speed for
4 seconds.

Background Player causes the Exhausted Status Effect for 60/50/40 seconds.
Background Player cannot be used when Exhausted.

"You forget about me?" — Renato Lyra
Inner focus
Inner focus is a Haddie Kaur perk
(CHAPTER 24: Roots of Dread)

This perk is amazing at giving you information and help you locate and position yourself for a flashlight save.

I prefer this over Empathy (Claudette Morel BASE GAME perk) but if you dont want to unlock this DLC it is a good replacement.

Inner focus perk description:

You have honed your ability to see through the haze of the Ravage.

You can see the Scratch Marks of other Survivors.
Whenever another Survivor loses a Health State within 32 metres of you, the Killer's Aura is revealed to you for 3/4/5 seconds.

"The death, the trauma, the fear... it all leads here. The Overlap." — Haddie Kaur, Ravages of the Abyss Episode 11
Break out
Breakout is a Yui Kimura perk
(CHAPTER 14: Cursed Legacy)

I like this perk due to it giving some movement speed as soon as the picking up animation starts which helps get you into position but also helps if you do miss the flashlight save you could still body block and help.

Breakout perk description:

You kick into high gear when someone is in trouble, inspiring them to overcome any obstacle.

When within 6 metres of a carried Survivor the following benefits apply:

Grants a 5/6/7 % Haste Status Effect.
Increases the Wiggle speed of the carried Survivor by +20 %.
Survivors can only be affected by one instance of Breakout at a time.

"Come, we are going to rip our way out of this." — Yui Kimura
Self-preservation
Self-preservation is a Yun-Jin Lee perk
(CHAPTER 19: All-Kill)

This perk is really nice for hiding until they pick up the downed survivor especially if you are injured.

Iron will (Jake Park BASE GAME perk) is a decent replacement for keeping quiet when injured.

Self-preservation perk description:

Life is unforgiving.
The more confirmation you get of that, the more prepared you become.

Whenever another Survivor is hit with a Basic Attack or Special Attack within 16 metres of you, Self-Preservation activates:

Scratch Marks, Grunts of Pain when injured, and Bleeding are suppressed for the next 6/8/10 seconds.

"Something I learnt in the industry: when the axe is swinging, keep your head down." — Yun-Jin Lee
Residual manifest
Residual manifest is a Haddie Kaur perk
(CHAPTER 24: Roots of Dread)

I love this perk because it not only punishes the killer even more for blinding them but it also helps when you run out of your flashlight.

Residual manifest perk description:

A lifetime of chasing the darkness has taught you that the best disinfectant is light.

After a successful Killer Blind, the Killer suffers from the Blindness Status Effect for 20/25/30 seconds.
Residual Manifest grants the ability to rummage through an opened Chest once per Trial and will guarantee a basic Flashlight.

"I'll never see what Haddie sees. But so long as I'm with her, I know I'm safe." — Jordan Rois, Ravages of the Abyss Episode 5
Built to last
Built to last is a Felix Richter perk
(CHAPTER 17: Descend Beyond)

this perk is really good in making sure you do not run out of your flashlight.

Built to last perk description:

You know how to get the most out of your tools.

Hiding inside a Locker for 14/13/12 seconds while carrying a depleted Item will replenish its Charges to
Each use of Built to Last reduces this percentage by -33 %.

"Architecture is the soul of civilisation." — Felix Richter
Streetwise
Streetwise is a Nea Karlsson perk
(CHAPTER 1: The Last Breah)

This perk is really good at slowing down your item usage for you and nearby survivors.

Streetwise perk description:

Long nights out taught you to do a lot with what you have got.

Increases the Efficiency of your Items by 15/20/25 %.
Streetwise extends its effect to all other Survivors within 8 metres of your location and lingers for 15 seconds.

"You are doing it wrong! Let me show you how it is done." — Nea Karlsson
Saboteur
Saboteur is a Jake Park perk
(BASE GAME SURVIVOR)

This is a good perk for plan b if you miss the flashlight save you can sabotage a nearby hook to save a survivor.

Works well with Breakout.

Saboteur perk description:

Unlocks potential in your Aura-reading ability:
For the duration of the Killer carrying another Survivor, you see the Aura of every Hook within 56 metres of the pick-up location:

The Auras of regular Hooks are revealed to you in white.
The Auras of Scourge Hooks are revealed to you in yellow.

Unlocks the ability to sabotage Hooks without needing a Toolbox:
Sabotaging a Hook without a Toolbox takes 2.5 seconds.
The Sabotage action has a cool-down of 90/75/60 seconds.
Conclusion
Let me know if you have any favourite perks you like to use but do remember these are just my favourites and everyones opinion is different :) <3

hopefully more perks for flashlight saves will be released soon!

btw: the actual best perks are bond, iron will, urban, background player. residual is cool if you don't wanna be seen holding a flashlight in lobby so the killer will be less paranoid. (i only use bond for flash saves but also kind of off the record, can go for sneaky injured saves). you really don't need built to last unless you're like a 4 man who are playing the game just to blind the killer lol

Also, empathy does not show u auras when in contact with the killer. So...harmless mistake, or more proof that plenty of survivors dont really know whats up and just complain? ;) idk..kidding not kidding. have a nice day.
Mr Logan Apr 12, 2023 @ 1:37pm
inner focus shows u the killer position..better than empathy imo it also basically tells u where the survivor is atm and if they are close enough to try the save
