Guide To Shimmer

Shimmer is a new resource in Terraria that allows you to transform objects. Here's all you need to know about this rare liquid

everything that you need to know about Shimmer, including where it can be found and how it transmutes objects. You will also be able to find a complete transmutation list to help you quickly get the item that you want.

Where To Find Shimmer

Shimmer can be found underground within the Aether. This is a rare biome that only appears once in the world. Fortunately, the Aether will only appear in the underground or cavern layer, as well as on the same side of the world that has a Jungle.

This means that if you want to find the Aether to get Shimmer, you should start your search from the Jungle. Simply tunnel down to the underground and cavern layers and search through that half of the world until you find the Aether.

In the image above, you can check out what the Aether looks like. Overall, it looks different from any other underground biome, so you will definitely know when you have arrived.

Transporting Shimmer

Shimmer can't just be picked up with any old bucket. Instead, you can get unlimited access to the liquid with a Bottomless Shimmer Bucket.

This is an item that will allow you to endlessly place and use Shimmer. To make it, you will need to combine the following materials at an Ancient Manipulator.

• 10x Luminite Bar
  
  
• 1x Bottomless Water Bucket

NOTE
If you have already found Shimmer, you can also use it to transmute a Bottomless Water Bucket into a Bottomless Shimmer Bucket.

Pumping Shimmer

Shimmer can also be pumped. The pumping process is similar to pumping any other liquid; there is no special method for Shimmer.

You will need both an inlet and an outlet pump, which link up to each other. With these two objects, you can then create a new body of Shimmer.

Using Shimmer

As mentioned above, placing objects into Shimmer will transform them. As a rule of thumb, if you place a crafted item into Shimmer, it will transform the item into its crafting materials. Some items will transform into another item, but we will go over that later.

Placing Mobs And NPCs In Shimmer
Living objects can be placed in Shimmer as well. When critters are exposed to Shimmer, they will transform into Faelings. These are fairy-like creatures that spawn naturally in the Aether.

Faelings don't serve any meaningful purpose, but you can catch them and place them into bottles.

NOTE
Shimmer will not affect the Slime Bunny, Christmas Bunny, Party Bunny, Gold Warm, Gem Bunny, or Gem Squirrel.

The Gem critters will turn into gems, and Gold Worms become Gummy Worms.

When exposed to Shimmer, Zombies and Slimes will also transform. Shimmer will turn Zombies into skeletons Slimes into Shimmer Slimes.

Lastly, Shimmer will transform the appearance of NPCs. This does not have any impact on the NPC; they will just look a little different.

Does Shimmer Effect The Player?

The short answer to this question is yes, Shimmer will affect you. When you enter into Shimmer, you will have the 'Shimmering' debuff.

This strange debuff will cause the following effects.

• Unable to move
  
  
• Unable to use items
  
  
• Sink through all solid tiles until you reach a 2x3 opening (or the Underworld)
  
  
• Become Invincible to non-boss enemies

If you are looking for a quick way to descend to the bottom of the map, then Shimmering is the way to go.

Best Shimmer Transmutations

Okay, so the table above is filled with items, but are all of them important? The answer is no; not every transmutation is important. Below, you can find the best Shimmer transmutations to focus on.

Item	Shimmer Transformation	Reason For Importance
Coins: Copper Silver Gold Platinum	Coin Luck Counter Increase	Luck increases item drop rate, as well as critical hit chances. Overall, you always want to be lucky!
Gold Worm	Gummy Worm	If you are an avid fisher, the Gummy Worm will permanently increase your fishing power by 3.
Clentaminator	Terraformer	The Terraformer is essentially a better version of the Clentaminator. It has a further range, as well as a 33% chance to not consume it's solution.
Angel Statue	Aether Monolith	This Monolith creates an Aether effect, which can be quite nice to have if you are going for a 'starry' theme.
Life Fruit	Aegis Fruit	This will permanently increase your defense by 4. More defense is always a great thing.
