Terraria "Nerfed" Challenge Concept
By Nyan-Mining and 1 collaborators
Terraria "Nerfed" is a challenge a friend and I were inspired to create after viewing a "nerf" challenge that someone did in Phasmophobia. (Nuzzgard's PhasmoRPG series)

Currently, there are 89 nerfs (99 if you're bringing along a buddy or two).
The reasoning behind using "nerf" in quotes is because:
  • Some nerfs are jokes and have minimal impact on gameplay (ex: #37 Nice Bathroom: Every NPC housing must use a toilet instead of a chair).
  • Some nerfs can have a significant impact on gameplay, such as #28 Confused: Left is right and right is left.
  • Some nerfs may have no effect on you depending on how you play the game (#40 Hook, Line, and Stinker: No fishing).

You start off with at least one of these nerfs at the start of a playthrough and add one for every unique boss you defeat.

This challenge utilizes some resource packs on the Steam Workshop.

Introduction
This is NOT a mod.

You start off with at least one nerf at the start of a playthrough and add one for every unique boss you defeat.

This challenge may be seen as similar to Wand of Sparking's "Wheel of Pain" series. The difference is instead of adding a nerf after each death, you add one after each unique boss killed.

You can use the in-game /roll command or some other RNG for rolling.

The goal is to defeat the Moon Lord.

Despite completing 6 playthroughs ourselves (1 Expert, 5 Master), this challenge is still a semi-W.I.P. as we think of ways to balance specific nerf combos, especially when playing multiplayer, or coming up with new general rules, for example, we had to set a biome base cooldown because I rolled FOUR base locations nearly back-to-back in the first playthrough! We did our first playthrough of this on 14/08/2021

Expert mode is recommended if you are attempting this for the first time or playing solo, but if you get the hang of it, try Master mode!
Recommended seeds: Random, Drunk world, Celebrationmk10

When you roll a number, match to "The Nerfs!" section to see what you get! If you're bringing along a buddy or two, make sure to include the Multiplayer Exclusive section. Some nerfs are mutually exclusive with each other (represented with "m.e." for simplicity).

Not every boss needs to be killed! Unless you or at least 50% of your group roll #57 Completionist...
General Rules
  • If you roll a nerf that you already have, re-roll.
  • Max used accessory slots is two, one from an accessory-based nerf (#6, #46, #92) and one from #34 Lose Clothes. This is in place so that you still have accessory slots available for yourself.
  • Base cool-down is three nerfs. This is to prevent players from having to move all over the place after each defeated boss. AFTER rolling the third nerf after a base nerf, then you may be subject to rolling a base nerf once again.
  • Players must have at least 1 nerf at all times.
  • If a nerf remover is rolled and the target player(s) have only 1 nerf, they can choose to: do nothing or Switcheroo I.
  • If you roll a nerf that is mutually exclusive with a nerf that you have, replace the that nerf with the one you rolled.
  • Resource Pack cool-down is two nerfs. AFTER rolling the second nerf after a resource pack nerf, then you may be subject to rolling a resouce pack nerf once again.
  • Due to the severity of #57 Completionist, at least 50% of your group must roll it in order for it to take effect.
  • When you defeat the third pillar during the celestial invasion event, choose a nerf to remove from yourself. You earned it :)
If you believe a new general rule should be added due to a new nerf combo we haven't thought of, let us know!

88. Switcheroo I: Remove a nerf of your choice, but roll a nerf in its place.

Multiplayer Exclusive Nerfs!
I couldn't fit everything in the previous section...

(if the impacted players have a #1-4 class-based nerf, that is traded as well)

(grab one from another world if you do not have one; m.e. #12 Bullied; Accessory nerf)
93. Friendly Fire: PvP is always enabled.
(Everybody must enable PVP, if there are 3+ players, the one with the nerf should be on a separate team, while others without it should be on the same team in order to not accidentally hit each other.)
94. Lonely Sleeper: Cannot have a bed spawnpoint within 250 blocks of any other player's bed spawnpoint.
95. Long Distance Relationship: No use of wormhole potions.
96. Chance Time!: Trade one to three random nerf(s) between you and a random player
(the player who rolls this rolls an additional nerf BEFORE trading, cannot be #81-86 or #99)
97. Lucky All!: Remove 1 nerf from everyone!
98. Lucky Them!: Remove a nerf of another player.
99. I can't believe you've done this: Everyone has to roll an additional nerf.
(This nerf cannot be rolled if triggered by this nerf. "Roll two nerfs! :)" may not be rolled either. Cannot be triggered as a result of "Roll two nerfs! :)")
Nerf Clarifications
#49 Leveler
  • Using a program such as Terrasavr, set your health to 100 + [the number of unique bosses and events you've defeated * 40] (if your health is greater than what you set it to, refund your life crystals and/or life fruit.)
  • Then, for every unique boss/event defeated, take 40 HP worth of life.
  • Your health should be 500 by the time you slay your 10th unique boss.
  • If you've defeated 10 unique bosses by the time this nerf is rolled, you can take this as a freebie or re-roll.
#57 Completionist
  • Since you have to slaughter every boss when you get this nerf, you can buy Eternia Crystals and the holder with #50 Market Crash and you can fish up Duke Fishron with #40 Hook, Line, and Stinker.
When more clarification is needed, I'll add more here...

Quick tips:
  • Hardmode? Box: 0 is Pre-Hardmode, 1 is Hardmode. This impacts the cruelty level counter at the bottom.
  • Cruel Level Box: Shows who is being screwed over the most. The higher the number, the redder it gets.
  • The Cruel Level numbers can be modified to the right of the table (not in frame), make sure everyone agrees on it. There is a pre-hardmode and a hardmode section.
  • Sample nerfs occupy the boxes, overwrite it with your first nerf. DO NOT DELETE THE NUMBER BOX! This is automatically done for you!
  • Cooldown color-coding is NOT automatically done for you. Keep this in mind! Whenever you kill a new unique boss, decrease the cooldown by 1. When it hits 0, it is now susceptible to being overwritten (say if you had a base nerf such as #73 Darkness Rises and roll #80 Dwarf Town, you would replace #73 Darkness Rises IF the cooldown is 0. Otherwise, you would reroll.)

How does the color coding work?

I have a nerf suggestion;
"Fluffy mine field (+extra)" Use tEdit to change your world seed to the 'For the Worthy' seed (where naturally spawning bunnies are replaced by explosive bunnies) and use a texture pack to make them invisible.

Yes, FTW does already make it harder and it'll obviously be worse with explosive bunnies you cant see, (+i dont think anybody has made a resource pack to turn them invisible anyway.)
but somebody could also make a mod (and/or the resource pack for the nerf) for the 1.4.4 tmod beta that does the same thing but without the rest of the FTW difficulty
