Syncretic Cultures

Beskrivning
Enables syncretic cultures to develop organically and gradually by merging together close cultures selected by the player over the duration of a playthrough.

How it works:
  1. Choose which syncretic culture you want to see! Cultures you dont like/agree with wont appear.
  2. Select opt-in cultures! Dont like Swiss merging with a syncretic German for example? Just select no in the pop-up.
  3. Once you unlock pan-nationalism a journal entry will start ticking.
  4. Every state that matches the base and optional cultures will be designated as a homeland of your syncretic culture.
  5. Each year an event will run in the background that converts a dynamic amount of eligible pops to the syncretic culture.
  6. The percentage of this conversion is based on literacy, discrimination, unlocked techs and importantly the pop type. (See table below for information in detail)
  7. After 30, 50 and 70 years an event will fire with 3 options:
    • Nothing changes
    • Remove your old primary cultures.
    • Remove the homelands of your old primary within your country and the primary cultures from your country.
  8. Regardless of your previous choice the yearly conversion tick will continue for the entire duration of the game. You can speed it up or keep it rather immersive with your choice.

What is the result?
  • Urban centers will show a much faster cultural change. Higher education and jobs that require a lot of communication will become a true catalyst. As a clerk is much more exposed to changes than a peasant taking care of the cows on his rural farm.
  • As a result rural areas or areas without proper education will be strongholds of backward ideals and will cling to the old ways.
  • Especially in the early stages your syncretic culture will feel a little bit posh as the early adopters all come from a better background and usually bring a higher SoL with them.
  • Free access to education, better jobs or the invention of technologies like the radio, movies or mass propaganda are pretty much the only way to convince the old guard to adapt.
  • The accumulation of beneficial circumstances results in faster adaption of your syncretic culture as the game goes on.
  • The whip does not crack out of love! Enslaving or discriminating against cultures you made part of your plans will not yield great results.

You want the AI to form a syncretic culture too?
  • Option A: Choose the immersive Syncretic Cultures game rule
  • Option B: As the decisions can only be taken by human player it is as easy to switch country, take the decision, select the optional cultures you like and swap back. Then proceed to enjoy the changes on the cultural map. Keep in mind that an excessive amount of extra cultures will slow your game down so enjoy with moderation. Its not required but I recommend not enabling overlapping Syncretic Cultures like Spain going for Iberic while Portugal goes for Porto-Brazilian. (Can be used together with A)

    Featured Syncretic Cultures:
Almost all majorly played cultures are covered. If you miss one please let me know!

    Modifiers and conversion calculation:
The conversion happens annually with decreasing effectivness as the original population shrinks as its converted. Leading to something like f(x) = (1-Conversion Base Rate*Multipliers)^Years for the unchanged pops.
This is somewhat alleviated by better education and techs as the game goes on however.

All you need to add a new culture is a small config JSON and the programm will create all needed events, journal entries, decisions and cultures for you.

    FAQ:
First look at the the Helper Menu under decisions which unlocks a neat menu which might have your answer already
    • I formed a new country and my Syncretic Primary is gone >> The yearly checks for this and re-adds the missing primary culture
    • I can only form one Syncretic Culture in a playthrough >> That is by design to prevent pop fragmentation and undesired overlap
    • I had a CTD I can trace to this mod >> There is a multithread issue in 1.2.7 that can happen if you are unlucky on the yearly conversion ticks but is very rare. I can do nothing about it as its an engine issue the game developers have to fix.
    • My game runs slow with many Syncretic cultures >> Use the 30, 50 or 70 year tick event to remove homelands as that will speed up conversion. Also use any mod that helps against pop fragmentation like this one Faster Assimilation and State Incorporation

    Compatibility:
    NEW SAVE REQUIRED:[
For some odd reason journal entries dont get initialized properly when loading into an existing save game. So you will have to add this mod before starting a new game.

This mod is highly compatible as all files are standalone and dont override anything. As long as the cultures targeted by this mod exist in vanilla it will work.

    Credits:
    - Slavic cultures are inspired by Ferrous` Slavic Alcoholism mod. Go check it out if you want to have a continuous experience with the obsessions.

@wizziam can you tell me which state?
(In theory the code for all journals, decisions and events is programatically generated, so either all countries are broken or none) Last I played a culture it worked for me, thats why im a bit confused
wizziam 23 apr @ 4:00
yes? they were serb homelands, and i started as serbia

@wizziam
So you already get got some of your syncretic pops at that point right?
Are you sure the state you took is a homeland of one of your initial or optional cultures?

the step 4 "if you conquer a homeland" yearly tick isnt firing for me? im trying to play yugoslavia and im not getting new homelands after i pressed the decision day one

Would it be alright to request more 'Heritage' cultures? There already is the very large 'European' syncretic culture including European Heritage cultures, the 'Native American' syncretic culture for the Indigenous American Heritage cultures, Polynesian for Indigenous Oceanic, and Turkic somewhat covers most of Central Asian Heritage. The 'Indian' syncretic culture covers South Asia plus a little bit more too.

A South East Asian, East Asian, North Asian, and Middle Eastern Heritage syncretic culture would complete the highly implausible but really fun super large cultures. Thanks for the mod regardless!

That is a tradeoff im aware of. You are expected to create the syncretic after unifying Germany and for Germanic you bypass the smaller nation states for a few reasons so you should also get your unification in order before that.
Maybe I will revisit that particular part with the next dlc that might touch this kinda stuff but dont have enough info yet.

With Germanic unified culture as the only accepted culture, even if you had the leadership of Germany, all of the German options vanish, and you can no longer form any new nation as Germany vanishes as an option. It also permanently removes German Leadership from you if you had it.

Do you mean unable to form German or Germanic?
Because the germanics arent supposed to form German but Germanic
DrUltraLux 3 apr @ 5:23
Germanic Culture are unable to form Germany

Could you add a Ottoman culture? Ottomanism was a real concept that was tried and failed so there is historical basis. And considering the vanilla acceptance, European parts always get the lowest acceptance which is not historic at al
