How to Start Gathering a Collection (Free and Paid)
This is the most important part of the guide and hence it is first, so even if you ignore the rest you can avoid some major mistakes.

This is a card game, and a mobile one at that, and as such they have pretty sucky gambling microtransactions. It is also pay to win, because yes, most of the best decks (esspecially due to the recent expansion) include rare cards that you have no way of actually getting in any reliable fashion.

There are three ways to go about getting cards, buying crates, buying for gems in the daily shop, and playing events which is the most important of them all.

Crates

The Lootboxes are best to fill out the bottom rarity of your collection, you get 4 commons and a rare that consist of 3 factions as well as the 3 neutral factions.

It's recommended to try to go for one crate at a time, and once you have most of the common and rare cards for whatever factions you like move onto the next.

You can get higher tier cards, from the official faq, drop rates are 1/5 crates for a epic and 1/20 for a legendary, but you do get a 100 percent chance for a legendary on your 30th crate without getting one. It is not reasonable to fill out your collection using only crates however and this is where the other two methods come in.

Daily Shop
The shop includes cards for sale with gems, a currency you get for opening free crates as well as getting duplicates. Each day there will be a refresh, normally with one main faction available and a couple random cards from others.

No image not that it is needed, as steam doesn't allow pictures over 2mb and compression doesn't work but it's right under the crates tab.

Cards cost 4x the gem cost of their rarity, for example if you get a duplicate common, you get 5 gems, and to buy a common from the shop is 20. The prices go: 20, 100, 400, and 1600 for common, rare, epic, and legendary respectively.

The veteran shop, is no different from the normal shop except having another set of cards to buy. They both have one legendary, and they both have a majority of a single faction's cards (although the faction is normally different between them). It just gives you more of a selection. All you have to do to access it is login for 7 days.

Primarchs and other legendary warlords are in the shop maybe once or twice a year but they always come with a special offer 20 usd deck option (which is recommend against).

Events (Best way to get good cards)
This is where you can get the good stuff. Events theoretically could be farmed efficiently if you were lucky with your draw ingame and know what to pick up.

Events are actually somewhat balenced as you pay a ticket or 10 at once. You have a option of 4 warlords (events have a pool of 6-8) and you then get to select your cards. The cards are random sets of 3, but there are only so many sets. You have to pick 10 times to have 30 cards, but you can reroll a bad selection of 3 options (which is 9 cards), for 25 gems and each time you reroll it doubles the price. Once you make a selection the price drops back down to 25 gems. This is completely separate from you main collection and limited to the event.

In events, you will face other people who had to make these choices. You have to win 12 times for the best rewards, with the crate you getting better every 4 wins. You can loose up to two times, the third time ends the run and you get the chest you had reached.

The main way to farm events is to do 10x runs with 12 wins, as not only do you get the best rewards but it refunds all of your tickets. This is not as daunting as it sounds, and here is why:

When doing a normal single ticket run, such as the free run from the daily challenge of 3 normal wins people don't invest rerolls into getting better cards. By the time you get to 10 tickets in your pocket, you should also have a decent amount of gems. You can go find meta guides if you want, but for me I always just played the event once with a single ticket when I was newer to see what cards are strong and not strong that I had and my opponent used. It's more than worth it to use 500+gems on re-rolls, as you will make that back from rare duplicates and get good cards as long as you can hit at least 8 wins.

In my experience on normal 10 ticket runs I get 5 normal games that are a challenge, 5 games that are easy, and 2 where they immediately concede.

To get tickets, you have to level up the battle pass, or get them from free crates. Doing the daily challenge of 3 wins in normal ranked, gets you a free run for the rewards of one ticket. You cannot store these, nor stack them.

If you make it to 12 wins, not only can you do it all over again, you will get around 500-600 coins, and in my experience 3-4 legendaries. Even if you get 0 wins and 3 losses, you will still get some cards as well as around 300 coins. This is where I have gotten 3 out of 4 of my primarchs with Vulkan, Fulgrim, and Sanguinus in that order (I got Alpharius from crates). I've also been playing for about 5 months, I play every other day but I always login to check the shop.

I still haven't got two back to back 10 ticket runs, but I can assure you doing one is totally possible.

Oh and a secret tip, say you have either 10 tickets, 1, or a daily free run, and the event ends tomorrow. If you play and get no losses, the next day you will get whatever chest you earned and all of your tickets back (even if you didn't spend a ticket with the daily free run). It doesn't do much in the way of cards, but for winning one game it is super low risk and you get 300+ coins for basically free. Or you can use it to convert a free daily run into a real ticket.

Using Money For the Above
Really simple if you have money to burn, don't buy gold, buy 10 tickets if you must for 8 usd. You get gold from doing that as well as cards. That is it.
What NOT to Buy
There are traps to watch out for, and should be avoided.

Do not buy crates that are 200+ coins from the special shop. These are for one legion at a time and not worth the cost. You might as well buy 2 that has 3 legions with those coins. Its only worth doing if you were to whale which is a mistake to focus legendary cards. Its just better to have 3 factions than 1 anyways.

Also do not buy the warlord packs, they only have one epic card, and are filled with trash most of the time. They also haven't been updated to have only ranked legal cards since they have legacy cards which have purple outlines. legacy cards can only be used in legacy mode, as they were rotated out of normal play. You will only see them here, in legacy mode, and playing campaigns, otherwise legacy cards are not obtainable for new players save special offers or needed.

Do not buy campaigns but always complete them when on rotation.

I did not follow my own advice of course, but I actually replay them which I doubt most people do. Campaigns are very basic rougelikes where you get to play as 3 warlords as with the final one being a primarch. Completing each one gives you a legion chest, and always included the first warlord you played as. After you beat all 3, you get to fight a primarch or equivalent in their reckoning form (the thing that normally happens later in the game because strong). Defeating them gives you a fancy visual cardback as well as access... to buying a deck. This deck is normally better than the special shop ones but it's not needed.

Once you get all the rewards, no more crates so only 3 per campaign (the fourth one is just the offer)

Oh and, if you are having trouble, you can reset the run and choose any of the other warlords to fight the special boss, not just the primarch as tempted as you may be. Primarchs don't invalidate other warlords, they just always are good (except Ferrus :( please buff him). You also get 2 upgrades instead of one if you fail. A good fallback for every campaign is trying to get a bonus energy while the enemy looses one, but other options are always good.
Extra Info+Battlepass
Battle Pass/Challenges

The battle pass is 20 usd, and pretty sucky being only a month long. It has some value if you play the game consistently, but you need to do challenges. I never skipped over 2 days in a row and I finished it with 11 days remaining.

DO NOT BUY IT IF IT DID NOT JUST START

At lv 1-30 its about 500 xp per leve, lv 30-75 is 750, and 75+ is 1000. Dont be fooled by the first levels going by fast at first it slows down a little. Overall you need 72,250 xp.

You unlock the BP by doing the tutorial missions, and the missions boil down to
Win 3 ranked games
Play 5 ranked games
2 missions that follow a formula of "play troop with X attribute" or "do damage"
PREMIUM ONLY Win 5 ranked games for premium.
PREMIUM ONLY 2 bp themed challenges a week (Example, thousand sons theme, a challenge may be generate 50 physic energy for 2.5k xp).

The one good thing about challenges, is you could do it every other day. If you wait 2 days, the game will store 2 challenges. So once one you do 1, say 3 wins, you can do another 3 wins.

The cards you get from the BP allow you to select a faction to focus. It is inside the rewards tab, look at the top. You can change it whenever you like, and only effects when you actually claim the reward not when you earn it. Use it to fill out collections like crates.

Mentorship

Find a mentor, until lv 25 you get a 20 percent xp boost, and if you do all the challenges you get a legendary. it's in the chat tab of the game.

Achievements

On the profile tab ingame, there are 24 core achievements that give you rewards, each tier of a achievement gives you a better chest than before. Do these.

Crossplay
If you setup your account in your settings, you can play on both pc and phone, neato.

Current Issue with the game
The three updated legions of the Sons of Horus, Emperor's Children, and Death Guard, all are pretty strong. SoH has some good cards and some pretty good cards, EC and DG are also all good but with some busted op cards.

These cards are not easily obtainable unless you buy special offers (or do their relevant events which again is recommended, it's how I got Fulgrim) and the like. They also currently are not in any triple legion crate, only the 200 legion specific ones. Outside event the only way to get them any day of the week is through focusing at the BP, and buying th 18 legion crate which... well don't have to explain the chances there.

Free 100 Coins

Hey, you made it this far, if you go to the shop and in the coins tab, click on the "free" and put my name (Votok) there. Or if you are still checking out the game and haven't played, use the link below so we both get some free moolah.

9/24 Update. The battlepass is more than enough.
Made some slight edits to the third area. But wanted to give a overview of what to expect assuming you max it out.

I focused on just one crate (inferno). I've opened it around 30 times. It gives around 50 tickets, which is pretty good. I've got around 6k+ gems from the bp+crate opening.

My collection for the inferno faction is pretty good. I can make a viable build as I have about everything save some epics and legendarys.

I basically filled out every faction from inferno (custodes, space wolves, and thousand sons). I have 2 legendaries in both TS and Custodes, and Im missing just one from space wolves. I got lucky and never got any duplicates. Id say expect 4-5 across all 3. And I still have about 40 tickets remaining.

Also every level past 100 needs 1.5k xp, and rewards 60-80 coins.
