How To Boost Shadow Distance And Quality
By Zeptomonkey
Hey I know shadow draw distance and such can be an annoying thing in this game so I am here to show you how to tweak it.

1. locate the Engine configuration file: To do this you need to locate the "Local AppData" folder so in the windows search bar type %localappdata%. then scroll down till you see a file called "TSCGame" open this then open the folder called "Saved" then "Config" then "WindowsNoEditor" then locate the configuration file labled "Engine".

2. Above the line labeled "[Core.System] type [/script/engine.rendereroverridesettings]

3. below it copy r.Shadow.DistanceScale=1.0. this current value is what i use and it is already higher this setting makes primarily static shadows become seen from further away at higher detail this value can range from 1.0 to 10.0 so feel free to experiment its mainly GPU intensive from what ive found.

4. r.Shadow.CSM.TransitionScale=1.0 this controls the distance of dynamic shadows or moving ones this setting is very GPU intensive its values can go from 1.0 to 2.0. i tend to leave it at one since i find thats a good distance and balance with my gpu but you can increase it for better quality.

5. r.DistanceFieldShadowing=1 this makes it show that lower resolution shadows will get rendered from further away making the transition much more seemless i like to keep this at one but if its too taxing on your gpu you can leave it off.

6. r.DistanceFieldAO=0 this causes ambient occlusion to be rendered from further away only real use for this is if you combine this with distancefieldshadowing otherwise its just not particularly noticeable and this is very taxing on the GPU.

and that is all i have for now i hope this guide helped who ever is reading this to get nicer shadow distances. let me know if i should do quality guides on other config settings for this game. Also let me know if I left anything out.

Well matey
I tried that guide
Id suggest not linking that anymore
the person just pulled it of the net, its not theirs
also it doesnt work with this version of the game

so modifying anything but standard settings does nothing
I even added what the guide said to do.
Resulting in fog forever, I mean always day, night inside and out.
tested -0.1000 0.000100 0.10 1.0
same with chanceoff tried both + and - low and high
nothing makes the fog go away

From reading online this guide was stolen from,
the games version was patched since this information
No longer can you adjust day and night cycles at all
so that guide, is almost 100% useless fyi :(

No problem mate glad I could help.

yep that is true on the -
sadly some code faults on - as its a next or lead dash in some code
xy=-0 cant exist to MOST code.
the = - faults
so ill mess with it.. best case I can think of so far?
making it daytime almost always.
this prevents spawnchance increase as the % for day is less than night
and yeah def keep this in
just some folk want a clean guide, didnt want to murk it!

ty much

also if its ok with you i think i may keep this conversation here just in case someone comes back with a similar question
Zeptomonkey  [author] Dec 24, 2023 @ 3:15pm
yeah but sometimes a negative value is how you disable some settings in game engines.
The Nothing Man Dec 24, 2023 @ 3:09pm
I will attempt that but I think 0.1 is the lowest
some games do .01 1% or 1=100%

Ty for trying!
I do appreciate the help
feel free to remove comments here to clean it up
or leave them
;)
If I do figure it out I shall post back

you could try a negative value?
The Nothing Man Dec 24, 2023 @ 3:07pm
its turn on chance =
and you cannot put 0.00
even if you do it still turns on randomly
also a reddit user said if you totally disable "fog"
this removes the sight* fog you get in recreating visions
that = fog also to this game
eep

since the fog has values connected to it
