Preface: Dungeon #1: Mirror of Beginnings
Upon feeding the Mirror of Beginnings your three Enkephalin Modules, you'll be presented with three randomly selected EGO gifts. You can only choose one. However, the other two have a chance of showing up elsewhere in the dungeon (though they also might not show up ever again at all).

Pick wisely, because while Floor 1 is a breeze and Floor 2 is generally not very difficult, surviving Floor 3 requires having a good balance of Sinner levels, good synergy between your Sinners, and (this can easily break Floor 3) good synergy between your Sinners and the EGO gifts collected in the dungeon.

This first EGO gift tends to dictate which direction you want your team building to go for the rest of the run.

Please use CRTL+F to hop around this guide (e.g. "Bleed", "Rusty Commemorative Coin", "Pet the fox").

*If you'd like to contribute please do so in the comments. Thank you.
Preface: EGO Gift Chart & Picking Sinners for Your Team
Which starting EGO gift should you pick? And subsequently, which three Sinners should you pick?

There are a couple of different paths to beat Mirror Dungeon.
1. Status effect synergy with EGO gift --> Status effects do more destruction
2. Sinner synergy and Sin resource refill (through EGO gifts) --> Healthy supply of EGO attacks willy-nilly
3. Absolute Resonance EGO gift synergy with a specific sin --> proc the bonus effect of the EGO gift frequently
4. Attack-type synergy with EGO gift --> if your gift gives you gifts for Pierce destruction, pick Pierce Sinners to get the ball rolling
5. Single-Coin-based attack synergy with EGO gift --> EGO gift procs more frequently
6. etc

On Floor 1 you will probably be focusing on Sin or Status-effect-type synergy with the EGO gift, but if you pick up more EGO gifts you will probably incorporate a few of the above.

Here is a very quick and dirty look at our EGO gifts and which Sinners' Identities have good synergy with a general dungeon build type. You can use it to have a rough idea on how to build your team. Alternatively, you can jump down to the "EGO Gift Detailed Breakdown" section (WIP) for recommended Sinners on a specific EGO.

As a quick note: if you are coming to Mirror Dungeon straight out of finishing CH2, you probably haven't Upthreaded many Identities (while your default Identities are already Upthread III). You should probably stick to the default Identities as they have access to the usually-very-helpful 3rd skill + passives (read: Sin synergy) than your unpowered ones.
Status Effect: Bleed
Bleed activates as soon as a coin is flipped (meaning the enemy can die right before they make an attack). Very few bosses/abnos are immune to bleed so it's a great choice to run.

Please note that White Gossypium instantly makes Blood, Sweat, and Tears useless. Never combine the two.

Burn activates at the end of a turn unconditionally. Even with so few Sinners who inflict Burn, hardly any bosses/enemies are immune so Burn is a great choice to run, especially if you can get your hands on Pinpoint Logic Circuit (which opens it up to anyone with Envy).

Honestly speaking there's only really three gifts worth getting from this section: Today's Expression, Lowest Star, and Sticky Muck. The other are harder to proc, with very limited-time benefits.

Lowest Star is arguably one of the best EGO Gifts in this dungeon; try to fit it into your build if you can.

whew boy there are some GREAT EGO gifts here.

Rusty Commemorative Coin is a very handy attack-repeater that also works on EGO skills, providing you proc EGO for your fastest character on the first move of a chain. You see where this is going.

Late-bloomer's Tattoo is extremely good in long fights with a long chain, as a character can easily build up to +3 ATK for their final attack in the chain for big numbers.

Bloody Gadget is the third very nice gift on this list; it's a no-questions-asked +2 Damage Up every single turn for some ally.

Phantom Pain is also worth calling out as most of your attacks will be single-target, meaning a free +15% damage.

Voodoo Doll is currently the only debuff EGO gift but is slightly less helpful; if you have gotten an enemy to <33% then they are likely dead soon anyways. However, it does deal constant chip damage per turn to all enemies.

Blue Zippo Lighter is obviously best if you are running Gloom (and Perversion if you are running Wrath, or want to trigger Outis's Zayin frequently); otherwise, Coffee and Cranes is a relatively reliable way of generating resources early on (providing you have Lust skills).

Absolutely pick Lowest Star if you are running any Blunt characters at all; it triggers per Blunt hit. Your enemies will drop their Sanity into Panic faster than flies dropping dead. (Caveat is that Abnos don't care about Sanity.)

Homeward's usefulness somewhat depends on how many Healing events you have near you (and are willing to go to). Phlebotomy Pack, Prejudice, and Lithograph tend to be better sources of healers (since Floor 3 fights generally take longer).

EGO Gift choice event
Preface: Indistinguishable Space Event
Each node you can choose to progress to in the Mirror Dungeon represents a certain kind of stage. One such is the "Indistinguishable Space Event" (let's abbreviate that to ISE), designated by the ? mark:

There are four types of ISEs, and the ISE type is marked by the icon underneath the ? sign:
HP healing node for the whole party. Gives 10/15/25 HP on floor 1/2/3. Based off of Opened Can of Wellcheers (F-05-52) from Lobotomy Corporation.

Unlock a Sinner from a randomly-selected set of 3 not yet on your dungeon team.

Level up a number of Sinners equivalent to your current floor, e.g. floor 3 = 3 power ups.

Random Event. There is nothing under the ? mark. This is the one that guarantees the opportunity to get a new EGO event.

Combat encounters, on the other hand, seem to either give you a level up for one of your Sinners, or another set of three randomized EGO gifts. But there doesn't seem to be a way to tell ahead of time which the encounter will give, so we'll ignore that for now and focus on the Random Events - if we play our cards right, we will get an EGO gift. (Of course, we can also fail, or get the gift AND take damage.)

Do note that the following EGO gifts do not appear to have an ISE in the game yet:
* Blood, Sweat, and Tears
* Carmilla
* Child within a Flask
* Gathering Skulls
* Homeward
* Illusory Hunt
* Little and To-be Naughty Plushie
* Today's Expression
* Tomorrow's Fortune

You forgot Poise build.
Also, it may be changed soon, but it seems that all the "next turn" status effect doesn't activate gift. I had spicebush Sang (everything is next turn sinking) and Red Order (+attack when using skill with sinking) but it never activated.

Dear god the Mirror Dungeon 6/30 patch overhaul means this guide needs a lot of updating. Time to get cracking!
sorcrane  [author] Apr 6, 2023 @ 6:55pm
Oh that's excellent, we can actually get through that encounter without having to take the EGO gift? Thank you maydayMage for the info!

White Gossypium event is patched now, "Wave Back" option gives Sinner Level Up instead of the EGO Gift after winning the battle
sorcrane  [author] Mar 12, 2023 @ 7:22pm
My apologies, you're right. I'll clarify the language in the ISE preface.
A5G_Reaper Mar 6, 2023 @ 3:45pm
Levelup nodes level 1/2/3 sinners at floor 1/2/3, it's not random
Cursed Being Mar 3, 2023 @ 9:52pm
I believe it was around 6 with the correct sin. No problem!

Thanks, I've added it in (ISE #5). If you happen to remember the threshold value as well please let me know.
