AI voice mod wih Blue Archive characters.

Introduction

This mod replaces the voices of the main survivors with AI voices of characters from Blue Archive. The current release has 3 characters from the Make-Up Work Club and Mika.

Installation

Voice files
1. Unzip the mod file onto the root of your game's folder. You should end up with a folder named "makeup_voice_mod" in your addons folder.
2. Open the text file in left4dead2\gameinfo.txt.
3. Add "Game left4dead2\addons\makeup_voice_mod" at the top of your search paths. It should look something like this:

You can easily access the game's folder by going to your Steam library -> right click on the game inside the list -> Manage -> Browse local files.


Sound cache
If the mod is still not working, you might need to generate the sound cache. Follow these steps:
1. Enable the Developer Console from the Keyboard/Mouse option menu.
2. Open the console with the ~ key.
3. Enter this command: "snd_buildsoundcachefordirectory addons\makeup_voice_mod"

The game will freeze for a few minutes. Wait until the console appears again. In order to test the mod quickly, enter this command:
"play player\survivor\voice\coach\adrenaline01"

You should hear Mika's voice. If not, restart the game and try again, or make sure you did the previous steps correctly.

Known Issues

Characters talk at the same time
The official game's voice lines are scripted with a set time and duration, because this mod changes them with completely different ones, it's normal that they overlap (some or many) times.

Characters voices sound bad or weird
That's normal. It's a a limitation of both the AI model and the training data. It can only do so much to imitate human emotion and sometimes text is simply not enough to know if a character is supposed to be sad, happy or yelling at your face, so no wonder they end up talking like if they were in an elevator when in the middle of killing zombies. And of course, there are more than 11k lines, it's very much impossible to check and correct them individually. Consider this a charm of AI voices.

Voices are distorted
Check the previous point, or maybe you need to generate the sound cache again. Otherwise, it's normal that these voices have artifacts and noise, result of being AI generated.

About the AI

This mod was inspired and based on the work of SayaSS's TTS model[huggingface.co] for Blue Archive characters, which at the same time is based on VITS[github.com] by Jaehyeon Kim, Jungil Kong, and Juhee Son.

This mod couldn't be possible without their contribution. I'm very thankful to them as they provided all the tools needed to make this happen. All credits go for them, really.

As for my work, this required many steps; from cleaning and preparing the quotes, to training and using the AI model to generate the voices, all with many small programs of my own. It took around 50-60 hours of work to create them, so you could guess it's not easy even if everything is technically available already.

Future Plans

Next I'd like to do Problem Solver 68[bluearchive.fandom.com], but I'm afraid I don't have the 3D models for them and big part of the charm of this is seeing your favourite characters on the screen. Moreover, I would need to fine-tune the AI model for each of their voices, so more work.

HCHA already did the custom models! What's more, I finally finished Aru, Mutsuki, Kayoko and Haruka's AI voices, now I just need to prepare their dialogues... There's still work to do, but hopefully I'll have something soon!

How to delete the mod completely? Cuz after I removed the mod from gamefiles and cleared cache it didn't help at all and now I have constant loud distorted voices of characters
