My System Specs
My system specs are:
(as listed in the KSP2 log file)
OS: Windows 7 (6.1.0) 64bit
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700 Eight-Core Processor (16)
RAM: 32715
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti (11136MB)
SM: 50 (Direct3D 11.0 [level 11.0])
RT Formats: ARGB32, Depth, ARGBHalf, Shadowmap, RGB565, ARGB4444, ARGB1555, Default, ARGB2101010, DefaultHDR, ARGB64, ARGBFloat, RGFloat, RGHalf, RFloat, RHalf, R8, ARGBInt, RGInt, RInt, BGRA32, RGB111110Float, RG32, RGBAUShort, RG16, BGRA10101010_XR, BGR101010_XR, R16
My Failures to Launch Experience
Tried Launching Game from Steam Library.
Click Play button started to act like was

going to launch
Green Play button would change to the Blue

STOP button
a second or 2 later would just end and fail to launch.

Tried launching from KSP2 Shortcut on desktop

and still nothing

So I went into the Kerbal Space Program 2 file

folder
..../Steam/steamapps/common/Kerbal Space Program 2/

Tried Launching from the KSP2_x64.exe
(thought was going to succeed)
It loaded up the various intro screens

Then it got to the Loading screen:
(and just hung)

My Work Around Solution
Start with "Windows Task Manager" open ready to use

Second Open Windows Explorer and go into the Kerbal Space Program 2 file folder
..../Steam/steamapps/common/Kerbal Space Program 2/

Launch The Game KSP2_x64.exe

Quickly Alt Tab back over to your Windows Task Manager
and go into your Processes tab
You will see The KSP2_x64.exe running.

Scroll Down til you see the UnityCrashHandler64 process Click it to highlight it.

Click the End Process Button in lower right. Will get this pop up.

Click End Process

Alt tab back over to your KSP2 game

And if Ended the Process fast enough
(before the loading screen in game)
You will see loading screen loading correctly and will take you to the Main screen of game

Click the Settings Option on the left

Next Click the Graphics option under settings

I Would recommend you change all the settings to "Low" and click "Apply Settings
(at least until you know what your system can handle)

Have Fun!

*UPDATE*
I have Learned a couple things since creating this guide.

First if I follow this guide and by ending the UnityCrashHandler64.exe process. It will not log my time played in steam and not let me use steam functions like Shift-Tab.

Also learned all I really need to do is run game KSP2_64.exe as described in guide, alt tab out of game. wait til i hear music and it will tab me back in automatically and load correctly without having to end the UnityCrashHandler64.exe process.but still not log my time or let me use steam functions like the shift tab chat feature.

Second option is to go Properties-General (right click game name Kerbal Space Program 2 in games list on left side of library.) and put in the directory location in quotes followed with a space and %command% .

Example: "G:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Kerbal Space Program 2\KSP2_x64.exe" %command%

put this in the Launch options and then can run game from steam play button but still have to alt tab out of game once starts running before the "Loading screen".

Alt-Tabing out of game is still the solution, just need to decide which way you want to do it, with or without steam functions.

Thanks again Steve for narrowing it down.
**BONUS INFO (Linux testing)**
Keep in mind it is not made for Linux yet/optimized for either
(trying to avoid the spyware that windows 10 & 11 are)

Tested on my New PC just bought for my Birthday.
Using Pop_OS! 22.04 LTS
running Wine 8.0
AMD Ryzen 7 7700 8-Core Processor
32GB Ram Cosair 6000
Motherboard X670E PG Lightning (ASRock)
ASRock AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming D
Corsair MP600 Pro NH M.2 2TB Gen 4 PCIe x4

Ran on my old TV Vizio 39" 1920x1080 (testing purposes only, going to move to my Aorus 4k Monitor when all is well with install and applications in linux running smoothly (soon))

Used the Second option of Properties-General running off the KSP2_x64.exe fix (but didnt have to alt tab out of game like in windows 7 pro)

Ran in all High settings, worked fine til loaded launchpad and game froze.......
Restarted and it worked this time but at launchpad had a tiny amount of graphic glitches at pad (was showing upderside of grass in the air)
Did a launch just fine went to about 224k AP
but back in atmosphere land mass just looked like gray block flat nothingness area, and ocean was just view out other side of planet out into space with stars, it landed but when hit the altitude 0 i passed through grass (remember i am in the ocean)it took me to -208 before stopping.
recovered vessel but left me in ocean/space
clicked on map view and then back to ship view , then it took me back to space center.

So it kinda works in linux with graphic bugs. So hopeful for future play as they improve the game.

Windows 7 has got to be the best operating system, its a shame that a lot of new games don't support it anymore without tweaking the files.

Thanks Steve

Very helpful, was trying to write a batch file to do this for me and found that the important thing seems to be to tab out of the game. Launch it from the exe, tab out and wait. When it's part way through loading it'll pop up.
