Intro
I will go over how to modify your Lost Planet 2 Game Save using Cheat Engine.
Since saving with a Hex editor is not practical for this game, we will have to modify values in real time using Cheat Engine. Understanding how to use it is important! But fret not as I will cover the bare minimum needed to modify your game saves.
Cheat Engine (CE)
Installing CE
  • Google "Cheat Engine" and download the program from their official site
  • Install CE
    • Install will sometimes be blocked by Windows, which is a known issue due to the way it works. You will get an error popup like the one I have attached.
    • To temporarily work around this issue, do the following:
      • Hit Windows button
      • search for "Virus and Threat Protection"
      • Virus and Threat Protection Settings > Manage Settings
      • Exclusions > Add or Remove Exclusion
      • + Add and Exclusion > Folder
      • Choose the following folder:
        • C:\Users\(Username)\AppData\Local\Temp
        • NOTE: Username will vary and it may be on a different drive. Ultimately you want to choose the Temp folder it is trying to work out of listed in the error popup.
      • Install CE
      • Once installed, remove the Temp folder from the Exception list to maintain PC security.

Running CE
  • THIS WILL NEED TO BE DONE EVERY TIME YOU WANT TO USE CE.
  • Launch LP2 from steam and get at least to the main menu or further (must be past the Launcher where you choose DX9/DX11)
  • Launch CE.
  • Click the "Select a process to open" button in the top left (screen with magnifying glass with a highlighted box around it) and select Lost Planet 2.
  • CE is now hooked up to Lost Planet 2 and can be used to modify values.

CE Notes
  • The "Addresses" will change every time you launch the game, so there is no "list of variable to change" of the sorts like with Hex editing. So if you're modifying Credits or XP, max it out so you're not having to go through the whole process again!
  • When doing a new search you will hit "New Scan". CE will search for a value and create a narrowed down list. From there you will enter in new values and select "Next Scan" to reduce the list even more until you find the lines (Addresses) you are looking for. Use "New Scan" to restart the search.
  • Note that values entered in CE should be integers by default.
LP2 Notes
Episodes > Chapters > Missions
  • There are several Missions per Chapter and several Chapters per Episode.
  • The game only saves after each Chapter, so playing on Mission DOES NOTHING!

Slot Machine Credits
Max Credits
  • From a little googling it will take 1,300,000 Credits to get everything from the Slot Machine.
  • To be on the safe side, lets just say it will take 2,000,000 Credits to unlock everything.
Maxing Credits (Existing Save)
  • In LP2 go to the Slot machine and note how many Credits you have.
  • In CE enter that number into the search bar and hit "First Scan".
  • Go back to LP2 and spin the slot machine until you're back on the screen to spin it again.
  • Note your new balance (decreased by 2k or 10k).
  • Go to CE, enter in the new balance, and hit "Next Scan".
  • Repeat these steps using the "Next Scan" button until there are 2 line items shown.
  • Select both line items > Right Click > change Value. Enter in a large number (2000000).
  • In LP2 the number of credits you have should have updated.
  • Spam "Enter" until everything is unlocked.
  • Profit.
Maxing Credits (New Save)
  • Play a Chapter of Campaign (not just one mission, but a Chapter!) until you get some Credits.
    • I don't think playing Ep1-Chap0 yields any Credits.
  • Follow steps above for an Existing Save.
Unlocking Campaign Missions, Expert Mode, Coop Factions
NOTE: Having someone else start Ep6-Chap4 and playing through just that that will unlock all other missions for you and Custom Character/Factions in Campaign. The following guide is for those that don't have that luxury.

I put this before Faction XP because it is important to have Campaign completed so you can choose what Faction you get XP for in Campaign mode.

I will explain this process for a New Save. If you have an existing one then just hop in at whatever point applies to you.

Campaign Values & CE
  • Episodes and Chapters will start at a value of "0" and go up
    • Ep1 = 0, Ep2 = 1, etc.
    • Chap1 = 0, Chap2 = 1, etc.
    • The only exception to this is for Episode 1 there is a Chapter 0. So Chap0 = 0, Chap1 = 1, etc.
  • Difficulties are valued 0-3
    • Easy = 0
    • Normal = 1
    • Hard = 2
    • Extreme = 3

Unlocking Episodes/Chapters & Coop Factions - New Save
  • Speed Completing Episode 1.
    • Complete Episode 1 - Chapter 0. Once you leave the snow area and go to the forest you can quit.
    • In LP2 set up a new Campaign lobby where you select the Episode/Chapter.
    • Set the Chapter for "0".
    • In CE do a "New Scan" for "0"
    • In LP2 change the Chapter to "1"
    • In CE do a "Next Scan" for "1"
    • Keep switching between Chapters 1 and 0 in LP2 while following those values in CE with "Next Scan" until only one Address is left.
    • In CE set that value to "3"
    • Nothing will have changed in LP2 but start the lobby anyways. You will see that the Episode-Chapter selection is for 1-3.
    • Start the game and Play through Chapter 3 until you finish Episode 1. You can quit at the end of it or once you start Episode 2.
    • Right Click and save the Address of the chapter selection, it will be very useful for Speed Completing the entire Campaign
  • Speed Completed the entire Campaign
    • In LP2 set up a new Campaign lobby where you select the Episode/Chapter.
    • Set the Episode for "1".
    • In CE do a "New Scan" for "0"
    • In LP2 change the Episode to "2"
    • In CE do a "Next Scan" for "1"
    • Keep switching between Episodes 1 and 0 in LP2 while following those values in CE with "Next Scan" until only one Address is left (Ep1 = 0 in CE, Ep2 = 1 in CE).
    • In CE set that value to "5" for Episode 6.
    • Modify the saved Address for the Chapter (saved in previous step) to "3" for Chapter 4.
    • Nothing will have changed in LP2 but start the lobby anyways. You will see that the Episode-Chapter selection is for 6-4, the last one in the game.
    • Start the game and Play through Chapter 4 until you finish the game. All previous Episodes/Chapters will be unlocked and even the option to select your Faction/Character for Coop.

Playing Extreme without having it Unlocked
  • NOTE: you will still need to play every Chapter on Hard to unlock Extreme mode. This includes the A/B Missions in Ep1 - Chap0 - Mission1 (done in Coop) and even the side path in Ep1 - Chap2 - Mission2.
  • In LP2 set up a new Campaign lobby where you select the Episode/Chapter.
  • Set the Difficulty for "Hard".
  • In CE do a "New Scan" for "2"
  • In LP2 change the Difficulty to "Normal"
  • In CE do a "Next Scan" for "1"
  • Keep switching between Hard and Normal in LP2 while following those values in CE with "Next Scan" until only one Address is left (Hard=2 in CE, Normal=1 in CE).
  • In CE set that value to "3" for Extreme.
  • Nothing will have changed in LP2 but start the lobby anyways on whatever Episode-Chapter you desire. You will see that the difficulty is Extreme.
  • You will have to do this each time the lobby is ended, but it might save you from having to play through on Hard to play Extreme.
Faction XP
Max Faction XP
  • It will take 999,999 XP to reach max. Note this value.

Changing a Faction's XP
  • You will need to have completed the Campaign and be able to select different factions to use in Campaign.
  • In LP2 go to My Page > Customization > Character Selection > Select the Faction you want to modify the XP for.
  • Make sure you have toggled Custom Campaign Factions on.
  • Go back to My Page and note the Total XP you have for your selected Faction (not to be confused with the XP needed to rank up under it).
  • In CE, do a "New Scan" for that XP Value
    • Shortcut for Existing Saves:
    • If you have existing XP for a faction and only 4 Addresses appear, then modify those to max.
    • If more than 4 Addresses appear, proceed with Guide.
  • Play a Chapter with your desired faction so the XP saves (Ep3-Chap1 is really quick).
  • Go back to My Page and see what the new XP value for that faction is.
  • In CE, do a "Next Scan" for that new XP Value
  • Replay another Chapter doing "Next Scan" until no more than 4 Addresses appear (should only take 1-2 tries)
  • Select all the Addresses > Right Click > change Value. Enter Max XP (999999).
  • Repeat this for each of the 5 Factions.
Training (Not Tested)
Using CE you could possibly modify your Training Times.
Since I have no desire to do this I'll leave this up to the community. If someone figures it out, I'll add it to this guide.

Basic Steps
  • Note starting time (probably start with one you haven't done so the value in CE is 0)
  • Search for a value of 0 in CE doing a "New Scan"
  • Take a long time doing the Training mission so it has a large completion time that you can easily beat.
  • once you have a time, try to figure out how the value is stored and use the "Next Scan" and "Undo Scan" functions to find the time.
  • Once you figure out how the times are stored, you can then search for your other times and modify them.

I dont think a table is possible for those asking.. I composed a lot of the codes that made these changes and the strings are dynamic. they change almost everytime you boot up the game and ive tried to make a table for it to post. sorry

Hello could you make a table for that ? Because I just don't understand anything at all I tried following all your instruction but nothing worked the adresses just disappear before there is only one left
Nitecrwlr Mar 11, 2023 @ 12:44pm
Ive tested the address results each time. The address is the same. hopefully i can test it without one else to try it out. Ive had crashes from the game and still hasnt changed.

Not a bad idea as changing the cost of the slot machine could yield the same results. However, the only issue with saving addresses is that they will change every time you load the game and the list becomes useless.

This guide is solid, instead of trying to add credits why not change the value of the cost for the lottery Machine? I ended up doing that and arguably the best way possible. I have the address for it and made it into a small table
