How to make a custom name!

You can change color, font, rotation and much more about your name.
Here's how! :D

Intro

❗❗ For this to work you'll have to change your Steam-name to the colorcoded version,
which will get decoded ingame, but look extremely goofy on steam.

So if you don't want a confusing steam name or can't be bothered to change it before and after playing, you can stop reading right here. It's an unavoidable drawback.

If you're okay with that however, welcome to the cool-name-club and have fun with this guide!

Basics

Every command must be written inbetween < and >.
Available Commands are
• Color <#FFFFFF>
• Font <font=[font name]>
• Italic <i>
• Underlined <u>
• Strikethrough <s>
• Subscript <sub>
• Superscript <sup>
• Size <size=[number]>
• Rotation <rotate=[number]>
• Width <width=[number]>

You can use as many commands as you want and put them anywhere in the name. However the max number of characters you can put in your steam name is 32, so choose wisely. To demonstrate putting commands in the middle of your name, I used the commands for italic and underlined:

exa<i>mple <u>name


There is also the possibility to stop any command for the rest of the name, by using it again with a / infront of the command text. In this example, I made it italic and strikethrough at the start, but stopped it from being italic on the second word:

<i><s>example </i>name

Colors

We are using RGB color values to describe a color, so as an example, a black name would be:

<#000000>example name


There are tons of websites to generate color codes, personally I prefer hexcolortool.com
You can also use a color with only 3 digits, for example <#000>, and it would look the same as in the example above. That is, because it automatically doubles each individual digit, which means you can safe 3 digits and use them elsewhere. So if you were to use the color <#abc>, it would be extended to <#aabbcc>, before being applied.

Very short ones

These are very useful for when you have used up almost all your characters with colors, but want your name to be in a different format as well. You've already seen me use them in the sections above, but here's a showcase of all of them individually:

Subscript and Superscript

These two have the second-least characters of all commands and just make your name look small most of the time. They really start to shine when used next to each other, like in this example:

cool^example<sub>name


Note, that </sup> was used to disable it again, before adding <sub>, since it would otherwise be double small.

Size, Rotation and Width

Size is measured in pixels and inserted with <size=[number]>. Important things to note for size are that the default is ~45 and anything above 72 is unlikely to be shown at all, breaking the entire name. Here are some examples:





Rotation is just as good, but a bit less quick to break your name. It's inserted with <rotate=[number]> and measured in degrees, counterclockwise. The rotation is applied to the individual characters, not the entire name as one. This gets us examples like these:




Width determines the maximum width of your name in pixels, however it can't make your name longer, only shorter. So this is what you can do with it:

Fonts

The font of your name is changeable to any font that the game files contain. You add them with <font=[font name]>, which takes up a lot of space and therefore doesn't allow for any additional changes, most of the time. Many names are also too long for a font to begin with, so it's a lot less common to see.
Available fonts are:

• <font=Bangers SDF>
• <font=LiberationSans SDF>
• <font=Oswald Bold SDF>
• <font=Roboto-Bold SDF>






There are also two fonts that are listed seperately, since they are pretty much irrelevant for this guide. (You can find them in the Outro.)

Summary / Noteworthy

• You need to set it as your Steam-name. (can be changed at [Profile] -> [Edit Profile])
• You have a maximum of 32 characters for the whole name.
• Colors can be encoded with 3 digits instead of 6, which makes them double while decoding.
• Fonts take up a lot of space and it's therefore recommended to use 'italic' or 'underlined' instead, if you plan on coloring it as well.
• Commands can be put anywhere in the name. (even after it, which will only affect what your ping looks like on other people's screen)

Outro

As promised, here are two available, but less useful (for your name) fonts:
• <font=Electronic Highway Sign SDF> : This part already takes up 34 characters by itself, so it's impossible to use in a Steam-name. You can technically make it work, if you change it ingame a few times, but it's janky and only client side.

• Anton SDF <font=Anton SDF> : It's the standard font of Stickfight names and you can achieve the same effect with </font>, so it doesn't really get used.
