Introduction
9 Monkeys of Shaolin is an entertaining and short journey to 100% completion. Experience the classic beat 'em up genre with a great Shaolin theme, either solo or with friends.

Obtaining all of the achievements in this game is fairly easy, as there are no missable achievements. The entire game can be completed in approximately 12-13 hours, or even faster if you play on the highest difficulty which is based on your skill. Despite their appearance at the first sight, achievements are easily obtainable, even the Legend difficulty & Deathless Run achievements.

I have organized and categorized all of the achievements, and will also provide tips and tricks for the game.
Strategy & Breakdown
The game is made up with 5 chapters with 3-6 levels each. You can replay each level whenever you want, so there is no missables to be worry about. For optimal and easiest progress, I recommend two full playthroughs, but you can switch to playing on Legendary difficulty during your first playthrough once you have a good understanding of the game and the build below.

During your first playthrough, I recommend playing on Novice difficulty and aiming for a "Deathless" run. You will be able to complete every level without dying if you are careful, and even if you do, a quick replay will save the day. The goal is to clear every level, so you can collect all items and collectibles in one go. Progress Achievements will be unlocked in your first playthrough, and most, if not all Stat achievements will be completed as well. Co-op achievements will also be unlocked if you were playing with a friend, and if not, you can complete them using a controller in a single level, which will be explained in the according section.

In your second playthrough, you will focus on the final achievements, replaying all levels on Legend difficulty, which stacks with the Warrior difficulty. All skills will be unlocked, and there are some specific tasks that needs to be done that can be done during the second playthrough, or at any time if you prefer to hunt for them specifically.

In Legend difficulty, enemies' attacks deal more damage, but their health does not increase significantly. With a good build and familiarity with the mechanics, it will be easy enough to handle the difficulty.

I highly recommend the build below and "Faster than Wind" mod to make the progress faster, although the mod will add extra difficulty at first but will make the whole fighting smoother once you get used to it.
Best Item Build
It is recommended to equip the items in the picture with a fully upgraded Seal of Attraction mastery, as this will make the combat more relaxed and give you greater control over your enemies.

The key aspect of this build is to use the Seal of Attraction whenever you have 2 Qi, which will interrupt, stun, and pull all enemies while dealing a moderate amount of damage. This will enhance your next attack, allowing you to kill the enemies more easily and restore even more Qi per defeated enemy, enabling you to repeat the process.

For boss fights, using Seal of Levity + Thrust and Kick attacks works well. Once you understand the bosses' mechanics, they will become much easier to manage, as they are not really complex fights.

If you have not yet unlocked the items, you can refer to the table below for information on their effects.

Item Name
Item Description
Jade Cliff
Ghost Aura. Every killed enemy recovers Qi within the aura radius, and ghosts are always corporeal.
18 Arhats
Increases the maximum quantity of Qi by 1.
Monk Shoes
Kick and Gust inflict +20% damage. Dodge inflicts 25 damage.
"Faster than Wind" Secret
The game features secrets in almost every level, most of which add visual changes to the characters or enemies. One particularly notable secret is the "Faster than Wind" mod, which speeds up the game by 100%.

It is found in Mount Longhu in Chapter 2. It is recommended to use it on both playthroughs, which will be easier to get used to and will reduce the amount of time you need to complete the game by... 100%.

It may be challenging at first, especially on Legend difficulty, but you will get used to it quickly. If not, you can still complete the game without the mod.

A guide for finding the secrets can be found on Steam, so I would suggest checking that out for more information.

Gameplay / Stat Achievements (8/31)
These achievements will most likely be unlocked naturally in your first playthrough as you complete all levels, if not, you can find specific tips for them.

Brawler
Destroy 30 items by throwing enemies into them.
"Items" stand for breakable barrels and boxes in the game. Keep hitting enemies near the breakables and it will be unlocked easily.

"Parry" is actually "Deflect" in controls menu, used with either LB button or "F" key. Deflecting projectiles also count towards this achievement.

Flying Dagger
Deflect projectiles 30 times.
Deflect is used with either LB button or "F" key. Deflect 30 different ranged enemies projectile attacks and it will be unlocked.

Source of Qi
Kill 50 enemies using Qi energy.
Every mastery that use Qi counts towards the achievement.

Fisherman's Fury
Kill 3 opponents with one strike.
Best to do in Novice difficulty and use Qi attacks, especially Seal of Attraction, or Rockfall.

Tea Connoisseur
Try every type of tea.
There are only 4 types of tea, you will get them from boxes. Each chapter unlocks a new tea, getting the final White Tea at Chapter 4.

Be Wind
Kill an enemy in the air without touching the ground.
Best to do in Novice difficulty. Use Seal of Levity + spam Kick attack a few enemies and it will be unlocked.

Force of Attraction
Pull 5 enemies with one seal.
"Seal of Attraction" mastery will be accessible in Chapter 2, you just need to use it once in a crowded scene and it will be unlocked.
Co-Op Achievements (3/31)
These achievements can be unlocked within a single level of co-op. They are obtainable both in local or online mode.

If you want to unlock the co-op achievements on your own, you can do so with a controller. Go to the monk in blue in the base & initiate "Keyboard + Joystick" and he will turn into a playable character with the controller.

Brothers in Arms
Complete a mission in co-op mode.
Completing any mission will do. Chapter 1 levels are recommended for quickest time.

My Kung Fu is Stronger
Gain more points than another player.
Both players get points in a level based on amount of mobs they defeat. Make sure that you, as the host, get more point than the second player.

Faithful Friend
Revive another player.
Either use "Friendly Fire" in the menu, or let the second player get downed on purpose. Get near them & use RB or "E" key and it will be unlocked.
Final Achievements (10/31)
These achievements will be mostly unlocked in your second playthrough on Legendary difficulty, some of them requires specific conditions and they will all be guided.

Path of the Scrub
Running from difficulties won't solve the problem.
Unlocked when you get back to the beginning of a level instead of entering the final room. It can be done in most levels, but you need to memorize the final room so instead of getting in the final room and triggering the fight by accident.

To unlock the achievement, simply backtrack to the beginning of a level instead of entering the final room.

In Eight Diagrams level in Chapter 1, and Mount Longhu level in Chapter 2, the final rooms are separated so it is easy to keep track of the rooms and backtrack to get the achievement.

Samsara
The endless cycle of rebirth.
Unlocked when you die 20th time. If you didn't get this naturally in your second playthrough on Legend difficulty, just join any Chapter 5 level in Legend difficulty and die over and over until it gets unlocked.

To unlock the achievement, simply die 20 times.

Untouchable
Complete a mission without taking any damage.
After getting the recommended items and increased skills, it is very easy to do in Novice difficulty.
I recommend "Tulou on Fire" level in Chapter 2, once you memorize the location of the prisoners and where the mobs spawn, they will be gone with Seal of Attraction + few basic attacks. Just

Arhat
Finish the game without dying.
There are indicators in the levels, showing how many times you died. You can just replay them without dying it will be unlocked. Playing on Novice difficulty is recommended, and it will be the main goal of the first playthrough.

Shaolin Warrior
Finish the game on Warrior difficulty.
See "Legend of Shaolin" below.

Legend of Shaolin
Finish the game on Legend difficulty.
The difficulties stack, so by completing the game on Legend difficulty, you will also unlock the "Shaolin Warrior" achievement.

Once you become familiar with the game and the recommended items, focusing on dodging rather than button mashing will greatly improve your performance, especially as you get used to the increased difficulty.

Note: To unlock the achievement, you must complete every level on Legendary difficulty. Changing the difficulty from Novice to Legendary during a level and then completing it will not count towards the achievement. You will need to replay each level on Legendary without changing the difficulty setting, in order to properly unlock the achievement.

Path of the Fisherman
Fully master the first style.
See "Shifu" below.

Path of Nature
Fully master the second style.
See "Shifu" below.

Path of the Sage
Fully master the third style.
See "Shifu" below.

Shifu
Master all styles.
"Styles" actually stand for "Stances" in the game where you upgrade your masteries in various trees. If you are doing a full second playthrough, you will complete it naturally, but if not, a little grinding will be needed to farm skill points.

It is recommended to play in Novice difficulty as it does not increase the amount of Skill Points it rewards. These levels are great to farm:
  • Tulou on Fire in Chapter 2
Rewards with 3 Skill Points, but can be done without killing anyone and just rushing the doors.
  • Wenzhou in Chapter 5
Rewards 4 Skill Points, has the moderate amount of length & difficulty.
  • Abandoned Fortress in Chapter 5
Rewards 5 Skill Points, takes the longest in this list but also provides the most Skill Points in the game.

A total of 216 Skill Points are required to get this achievement, refer to the table below to see stances.
