Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo - Walkthrough (On-Going)

In this Guide, I will walk you through Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo.

1. Story - The Cartown Zoo's Grand Opening

Putt-Putt has to rescue the zoo animals and return them to Outback Al (who also appears in Putt-Putt Enters the Race) before the Zoo's grand-opening. The animals he needs to rescue are Baby Jambo the elephant, Masai the giraffe, Kenya the lion cub, Zanzibar the hippopotamus, Sammy Seal, & Little Skeeter the snake.

1-1. Dashboard Interface

Putt-Putt's dashboard was slightly redesigned to keep up with the higher standard of graphical quality. Though the dashboard maintains it's original look, some small changes were made for
Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo. The Gas Gauge no longer decreases as the game progresses. The radio now has a digital interface and is tuned to 97.3, presumably the Cartown Radio Station. The Glove Compartment also features a minor change as the shelf has been removed. Of all the minor changes, one object has been added. There is a Key in the Ignition found on the left of the Dashboard under the Gas Gauge. The Key is used to Quit the game. This version of the dashboard is also used in "Putt-Putt Travels Through Time."

2. Minigames

Ice Hockey:

Animal Tag:
Much like Alien Tag in Putt-Putt Goes to the Moon, except with Zoo Animals.

Color Changing:
Color Changing is a feature in the Putt-Putt series in which you can change Putt-Putt's Color. Almost all games contain a Color Changing feature, except for Pep's Birthday Surprise and Pep's Dog on a Stick. See Section 4-4 for Color Changing on Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo.

3. Walkthroughs Guide - Directions to the Cartown Zoo

The Game Starts after Putt-Putt gets the Zoo Chow from Mr. Baldini's Grocery Store. To get there, take these simple directions to the Cartown Zoo.

NOTE: Clicking on the Animal Hedges at the Enterance of the Cartown Zoo will play the "Topiary Creatures" song. Which is optional.

3-1. Walkthroughs Guide - Missing Baby Animals

After you delievered the Zoo Chow to Outback Al, he'll mention that the zoo is in quite a mess and is not ready to be opened. He explains how many of the exhibits still need fixing. On top of that, six baby zoo animals have gone missing. Putt-Putt offers to help by finding the missing animals. Outback Al is relieved and gives Putt-Putt a list of the missing animals: Baby Jambo the elephant, Masai the giraffe, Kenya the lion cub, Zanzibar the hippo, Sammy Seal, and Little Skeeter the snake. Putt-Putt must find these six baby animals and save the zoo.

3-2. Walkthroughs Guide - Required Baby Animals

There are 6 Baby Animals you'll need rescue before the Cartown Zoo can be opened.

Required Baby Animals:
1. Baby Jumbo the Elephant
2. Masai the Giraffe
3. Kenya the Lion Cub
4. Sammy Seal
5. Zanzibar the Hippo
6. Little Skeeter the Snake

4. Cartown Zoo In-Game Locations

After you talked to Outback Al about the 6 Baby Animals you need resuce, you'll return to the Cartown Zoo's Hub. There are some In-Game Locations that my catch your fancy.

Cartown Zoo Locations:
1. Zoo Lobby
2. Main Hub
3. Jungle Land
4. Arcticland
5. Grasslands

4-1. Zoo Lobby

Chuck Wagon can be found on the Left while Patty Wagon can be found on the Right. The Map of the Cartown Zoo can also be found here.

4-2. Zoo Hub

The hub features a single pathway leading from the zoo lobby to the Grasslands. Two bridges branch from the center of the pathway leading to Arcticland on the left and Jungle Land on the right. Above each entrance is a giant sign displaying the name of that particular location. The arch over Arcticland is made out of giant blocks of ice covered in snow. The arch to Jungle Land is made out of the surrounding trees. Two waterfalls are seen on either side of the path. The left waterfall's source is from the polar bear exhibit and the right waterfall's source is located somewhere in Jungle Land. Each stream made by the falls returns to its respected location.

4-3. Arcticland

Arcticland is a cold, snowy environment designed for seals, penguins, Walrus's, Yak's, Musk Ox's, Reindeer's, Snow Leopard, Arctic Wolves, Arctic Foxes, Snowy Owl's, Snow Geese, Arctic Rabbit's and polar bears. It is home to Sammy Seal and her parents, Bobby and Squidgy. Outside the seals' home is a group of penguins that play music and dance. There is another group of penguins next to a nearby pool of freezing water. Little Skeeter is found stuck on the ice under a bridge in Arcticland, and Zanzibar is stuck on an iceberg in the cold water.

4-4. Grasslands

The Grasslands consist of wide, open, grassy plains. It's inhabitance are all animals from Africa. The Grasslands feature a large watering hole, and a paint shack where Putt-Putt can paint himself 6 different colors. Baby Jambo and Momma Mombassa, Masai and Mrs. Giraffe, and Kenya and her parents Leo and Leona live in the Grasslands. Sammy Seal is found stuck in a mostly dried up stream by a dam in the Grasslands, and Baby Jambo is found trapped in a corner by a "giant scary mouse".

4-5. Jungle Land

Jungle Land is another one of the locations at the Cartown Zoo.

5. Walkthroughs Guide - Accessing the rest of the Cartown Zoo

Before you can begin recusing the Baby Animals, you'll need to access the rest of the Cartown Zoo first.

From the Zoo Lobby, head Left to Chuck Wagon's Zoo Food Cart & pick up both the Cheese Squigglies & Hot Cocoa for later use. After that, head Right to Patty Wagon's Zoo Gift Shop & pick up the Camera (You don't need the Camera to beat the Game but its' for fun).

From the Grasslands, you'll notice a Log in the way, pick it up then head over to the Paint Shack & pick up the shovel. After that head to Arcticland. Before Putt-Putt can get very far into Arcticland, he tries to be silent but he sneezes and accidentally causes an avalanche because it is windy there. Use the Shovel to clear the Snow, then open the Zoo Containter to reveal a Rope, click on the Rope to add it to your inventory.

Then go to Jungle Land, use the vine to swing across to the other side & go right until you reach another Zoo Container, open it to reveal a Toolbox, then pick it up. Continue going left until you reach a Raft that's missing a log (Come to think of it, the Log you found earlier might be useful here). Use the Log to fix the Raft & you're all set.

5-1. Walkthroughs Guide - Baby Jumbo the Elephant

Head over to the Grasslands until you find Baby Jumbo. Jezz. He is so scared of a tiny mouse! What you need to do is use the Cheese Squigglies on the Tiny Mouse (or "Giant Scary Mouse") & Baby Jumbo is saved. Baby Jambo goes the wrong way and must turn around and go the other
Way.

With Baby Jumbo Saved, you'll need to save 5 more Baby Animals before the Cartown Zoo can open. Those Baby Animals are Masai the Giraffe, Kenya the Lion Cub, Zanzibar the Hippo, Sammy Seal & Little Skeeter the Snake.

5-2. Walkthroughs Guide - Sammy Seal

Head over to the Grasslands until you find Sammy Seal. It appears that the Hydro Dam is shut & Sammy Seal is stuck. To rescue him, you'll need to use the Toolbox on the Hydro Dam. The Shape on the Hydro Dam's Pulley is randomized for each Walkthrough & Toolbox contains 7 Different Pully Wedges, but only one of them is the Correct one. After you used the Correct Pulley Wedge on the Hydro Dam so that it will go down so water comes out & Sammy Seal can swim back to his parents.

With Baby Jumbo & Sammy Seal Saved, you'll need to save 4 more Baby Animals before the Cartown Zoo can open. Those Baby Animals are Masai the Giraffe, Kenya the Lion Cub, Zanzibar the Hippo & Little Skeeter the Snake.

5-3. Walkthroughs Guide - Little Skeeter the Snake

Head over to the Arcticland until you find Little Skeeter the Snake & wants something warm to drink. Use the Hot Cocoa on Little Skeeter the Snake & he'll warm up, then head back to Jungle Land.

With Baby Jumbo, Little Skeeter the Snake & Sammy Seal Saved, you'll need to save 3 more Baby Animals before the Cartown Zoo can open. Those Baby Animals are Masai the Giraffe, Kenya the Lion Cub & Zanzibar the Hippo.

5-4. Walkthroughs Guide - Zanzibar the Hippo

Head over to the Arcticland until you find Zanzibar the Hippo, except there is heaps of water that
Would be very cold in the way! There are sheets of ice that you need to Click on to in order for one of the penguins to move it. The first one you must move is the sheet on the bottom right hand. Click on it. One of the penguins jumps in and moves the sheet. The next one is on the bottom left
Hand. Only two more left. This second to last one is on the top right hand. Now the final one is on the top left hand. That wasn't too hard was it?

With Baby Jumbo, Little Skeeter the Snake, Zanzibar the Hippo & Sammy Seal Saved, you'll need to save 2 more Baby Animals before the Cartown Zoo can open. Those Baby Animals are Masai the Giraffe & Kenya the Lion Cub.

5-5. Walkthroughs Guide - Kenya the Lion Cub

Head over to Jungle Land until you reach Kenya the Lion Cub. Kenya is stuck up on a rock, and doesn't want to jump into the Water as she can't swim (And besides, Cats can't swim in water). Head up to the scenic view & use the Rope below. Kenya climbs Up the rope, almost falls down, but makes is up in the end. Kenya thanks Putt Putt and runs off home.

With Baby Jumbo, Little Skeeter the Snake, Zanzibar the Hippo, Kenya the Lion Cub & Sammy Seal Saved, you'll need to save 1 more Baby Animals before the Cartown Zoo can open. That Baby Animal is Masai the Giraffe.

5-6. Walkthroughs Guide - Masai the Giraffe

Head over to Jungle Land until you find Masai the Giraffe. The bridge is up so she is trapped. Click onto the Rock stopping the bridge going down. Together Putt Putt and Masai the Giraffe Push and push, until finally the rock drops into the water. Putt Putt nearly Goes with it but lucky Masai catches him before he falls in. That was close! You have got rid of the rock but the bridge is still up. Then backtrack to the the Turning wheel & use it to make the drawbridge go down so you can save Masai.

Now that you've saved all the Baby Animals, Outback Al can open the Cartown Zoo.

5-7. Walkthroughs Guide - Welcome to the Cartown Zoo!

With all the Baby Animals saved, Outback Al announces the opening of the Cartown Zoo to all the other cars. He even gives Putt-Putt the Junior zookeeper award and allowing him to cut the ribbon. The zoo is offically open and everyone can enjoy the zoo.

6. The End

Druing the End Credits, you can Click Scrapbook to see what happened after the Cartown Zoo Opened & you can even meet the Voice Cast of Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo. You can also choose to Play Again by Clicking PLAY AGAIN and answer YES to Restart the Game or Exit to Windows by Clicking on QUIT and answer YES to Exit the Game.

7. Game Items

Camera: Used to take pictures of the Characters in Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo which can be printed out on the Standalone CD-ROM Version of Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo or Screen Captured on the Steam Version of Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo.

Photos: Used to view pictures the Pictures of the Characters in Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo.

Cheese Squigglies (Consumable Item): Used to Rescue Baby Jumbo from the "Giant Scary Mouse" in the Grasslands.

Cotton Candy (Consumable Item)

Hot Cocoa (Consumable Item): Used to Rescue Little Skeeter the Snake in Arcticland.

Log: Used to fix the Wooden Raft in Jungle Land.

Missing Zoo Animal List: Use this to review the Baby Animals you need to Save.

Rope: Used to Rescue Kenya in Jungle Land.

Shovel: Used to clear away the Snow in Arcticland.

Toolbox: Used to Lower the Hydro Dam in the Grassland & Rescue Sammy Seal.

Zoo Chow: Needs to be Delievered to Outback Al at the Cartown Zoo.

Pep: Putt-Putt's Pet Dog, clicking on him will make him bark.

8. Saving & Loading

Saving your Game:
To Save your Game, Press the "S" Key on your Keyboard. A total of 12 Files can be saved at a time. Place the game's screenshot onto the file you want to save & name your Save File to save your progress. You can overwrite a save by placing its screenshot on the game you saved earlier & name it. This can be done anywhere in the game at anytime.

Loading your Game:
To Load your Game, Press the "L" on your Keyboard. You can load your Saved Game
by selecting the screenshot you saved your progress in by clicking on it.

9. Secret - Full CD-ROM Install (ScummVM)

Want to play Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo without the CD? Then I'll show you how to do so.

First, download the ScummVM Emulator here:
http://scummvm.org/

Then, follow these steps:
1. Insert your Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo CD into your Disc Drive.
2. Click on QUIT at the autorun.
3. Open the CD
4. Create a new Folder on your C Drive and Name it: "HEGames".

5. Create a New Folder in your HEGames Folder & Name it "PuttZoo"

6. Copy the Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo CD Files to your PuttZoo Folder on your Hard Drive.
7. Run the ScummVM Installer & follow the instructions shown.

8. DON'T Open Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo just yet. If you're using a newer computer,
you'll need to use the ScummVM Emulator.

9. Open ScummVM
10. Select "ADD GAME"

11. Find the folder where Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo is Installed on your Hard Drive, select CHOOSE & then select OK. After that, the game should be added to the ScummVM Library.

12. Highlight Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo, then Double-Click on it to start or select START.
13. Enjoy

NOTE: For the 1999 Reprint of Putt Putt Saves the Zoo, its done in the same way but you will need both the 1994 Original and 1999 Reprint to do a Double Installer. Also when installing the 1999 Reprint Version, create a Second Folder in PuttZoo and Name it "PuttZoo 1999".
