Custom Spells
Custom spells are probably the most interesting mechanic in Oblivion, but it's easy to get carried away, filling your spell book with expensive-to-cast spells you tried once and never used again. Here's a handful of useful spells you can create to save you the precious time, gold, and parchment required to experiment with spell making.

Atronach - Recharge
Because of how the Telekinesis effect works, it can trigger the Spell Absorption effect. If you have 100% Spell Absorption, these spells are guaranteed to regenerate your magicka with every cast. Even at a lower Spell Absorption rate these spells can be useful to quickly recharge your mana pool during combat if you don't mind leaving it to chance.

Artronach Recharge I - Novice Mysticism
  • Telekinesis magnitude 100 for 1 second

Atronach Recharge II - Expert Mysticism
  • Telekinesis magnitude 100 for 10 second

Closing Remark/Closing Statement

These spells are a quick way to finish off enemies who are low on health.

Closing Remark
Description: Closing Remark is cost effective, doesn't require a high skill level, and also traps souls. I highly recommend obtaining the Star of Azura from her quest line to keep your enchanted weapons charged up.

Closing Statement
Description: Closing Statement is a beefed up version of this finisher that costs substantially more to cast. The Damage Health/Absorb Health effects makes it deal lasting damage if the Drain doesn't do enough to finish the target off. At maxed level, this spell is still cost effective compared to other alternatives you might find in the game.

Ki Strike
Ki Strike - Novice Destruction
Great for hand-to-hand users. If a target falls below 0 fatigue, they lose their balance and fall to the ground. Essentially a cost effective paralyze spell.

  • Drain Agility 100 pts for 1 sec on Touch

Kaleb's Silver Tongue - Apprentice Restoration
Haggling prices is calculated based on the Merchant's Disposition, Mercantile skill, and Luck attribute versus your own Mercantile and Luck. Casting on a target them immediately speaking with them will allow you to barter for better prices.

Atlas' Strength - Novice Restoration
While over encumbered, cast this spell then immediately fast travel.

Gray Fox's Fingers - Novice Restoration
Description: Cast immediately before picking a pocket or a lock. I put them together for convenience but separating them is always an option.

Forgemaster's Focus - Novice Restoration
Description: Cast immediately before repairing equipment.

Description: Use immediately before fast travelling to shorten the time it takes. You can also add 100 pts of Feather for even more speed. Good for Vampires trying to keep their porcelain complexion.

Remedial Training
Description: Using this spell before speaking with a skill trainer of a lower level will allow you to train with them for a lower cost.

Or just use paralysis after casting a short weakness to magicka 100% spell. even 5 seconds of paralysis is absurdly cheap and the duration gets doubled by weakness to magicka 100% you could even include an absorb magicka 10 points for 7 seconds effect to refund most of the cost. Or even better you could make 2 magicka weakness 100% for 3-5 seconds spells then alternate between casting both on your victim then cast a 3 second paralysis spell to paralyze your victim for an absurdly long time as the weakness effects buff each other by applying a new stronger version everytime you alternate the spell due to the increased magicka weakness the victim now has.

The Ki strike spell is another odd one as because of how drain spells grant what is drained back to the victim as soon as it ends the best you could get from it is putting your opponent down for only one moment and while it only costs 6 magicka to cast making it spammable increasing the cost to 49 points by replacing the drain fatigue with an absorb fatigue would be far more effective. Or to make this even more useful and to reduce the cost to 22 magicka you can reduce the fatigue absorbed to only 50 points letting you cast it repeatedly to keep your opponent deprived of fatigue while replenishing your own.

You could reduce the spell cost massively while maintaining the 300 damage by making this a damage health, absorb health, and damage element of your choice 10 points for 10 seconds each spell, remove the endurance related effects completely and you could keep the soul trap effect if you wish but buff it up to also being 10 seconds making the spell cost a total of 140 magicka. alternatively you could even do 500 damage with one cast if you make a spell that does fire, frost, and shock damage, damage health, and absorb health, for 10 points for 10 seconds each and an additional 10 seconds of soul trap for a total cost of 196 magicka. 100 intelligence as any race and birthsign, 50 int and apprentice or atronach sign or being a high elf or a high elf with either sign will give you enough magicka to cast this spell making it vastly more economical than your magical mess.

The second version of the spell is even worse somehow as it's 221 magicka for 300 points of damage assuming it can actually kill the opponent, if it can't it's only 200 points of damage since drain health gives the opponent the drained health back when the effect ends. The endurance reduction only impacts the opponents max fatigue not their hp and since the opponent has a willpower value if they also have an endurance value this will not remove all of their fatigue making it pointless to include.

A number of things here are questionable at best such as saying fortify pickpocket 100 for the gray fox's fingers spell since pickpocket does not exist in oblivion but that can be brushed aside by assuming you meant sneak. But the spells closing remark and statement are just incredibly worthless, even ignoring the fact that the intended use is to finish off a low health with a spell that only does 100 entire damage and that you have two effects that reduce endurance by 100 points, as if any enemies have more than 100 endurance in the first place but draining endurance is literally worthless anyways especially if it's only for 1 entire second.

Addle Mind

[Requirement]
100 illusion and 100% spell effectiveness to afflict anything and everything. Instead of only up to level 25 as the spell says.

[Description]
Essentially an improved short duration calm, while functioning similar to frenzy during larger engagements. During this effect the afflicted target will seek out and aggro on other nearby targets if possible, and will maintain that aggro after the effect ends. Just touch an enemy or two and watch their whole group implode. A cheap 10 second Soul trap is added to it to more easily keep your enchanted weapon full. Total spell cost (touch version) at 100 skill is 92 magicka, and 80 magicka without the silence.

[Description]
Recovery spell that grants invisibility for 15 seconds, during which time magicka and willpower is fortified to greatly increase magicka regeneration. Fortify Magicka also more than refunds the cost of the spell. Near-full recovery guaranteed at 100 base willpower even without additional fortifications to intelligence or magicka. Very useful to recover after unleashing a slew of spells, or after chaining together long duration high magnitude buffs. Example; Magicka Battery > Magicka Regeneration > Rejuvination . Total spell cost at 100 skill is 93 magicka.

Greatly increases magicka regeneration. Has to be made seperately due to the immense cost of both Fortify Intelligence and Fortify Willpower at high values. Alternatively you can trade in the Fortify Magicka for another 20 points of willpower. Total spell cost at 100 skill level is 392 magicka in both cases.

Greatly increased available magicka. Will refund 260 magicka when cast by increasing your total magicka pool by the same amount. Improves total magicka regenerated for the duration allowing you to cast more powerful spells and cast them more freely. Total spell cost at 100 skill level is 392 magicka.
