Introduction/Context
So, at least as far as I could tell, Steam Deck controls are NOT supported in VTMB in Gaming Mode on Steam Deck. You can get the Deck's controls to recognize in Desktop Mode on the Steam Deck, but that isn't ideal.

The method described here will allow you to use Steam Deck control input in the Gaming Mode side of SteamOS. I don't claim this is the only way to make the Steam Deck recognize the Steam Deck's controls in gaming mode. I was simply unable to find much information on how to make it work - so, I decided to write this guide for folks like me. Maybe it helps someone. :D

Here's a person below from late last year detailing the problem on ProtonDB.com

VTMB Op-Ed/Unofficial Patch
So, first of all this game is one of the greatest RPGs ever made. So, congrats on your choice to play! Don't play a Malkavian or a Nosferatu on your first playthrough!! OR do, you do you boo.

This guide assumes the reader understands the importance of the Unofficial Patch in ensuring a quality game experience when playing VTMB. WESP5 has done an incredibly gracious amount of work repairing, restoring & finishing VTMB - a freakin' legend! GET THIS PATCH. If ya don't your game WILL break & you may not be able to recover the save. You have been advised.

Please, refer to this excellent guide by Grady Vuckovic on how to install the latest (11.2 at this writing) Unofficial Patch using Protontricks in Linux; GUI workflow - no console commands - to patch the game (this is basically a guide for Steam Deck users). Award this person some points for an amazing guide!

Reshade Github For Linux.
Once this is complete, I would recommend also installing reshade from the github. Here's the link to reshade for linux github. Not gonna really dive into this installl rn. There are guides out there, it's fairly easy, just google it or follow the readme directions on the github. Perhaps I'll update this section later.

AntiMicroX
After that, in Steam Desktop Mode, you will also need to open the Discovery store and search for a program called AntiMicroX. Install this program. Once it has been installed, add it as a "non-steam game" to your steam library in Desktop Mode.

That's pretty much it, really. Reboot into gaming mode on the Steam Deck. Run AntiMicroX first from Steam's Library, then VTMB (with all the added launch options from Reshade & Unnoffical Patch.) Once in game you should have full Steam Deck control support in gaming mode. I'm unsure how stable it is as all I did was 30 min of gameplay in Santa Monica, but I had no issues.

Closing
I may come back & do a more complete top-to-bottom guide, but I wanted to get this up quick in case folks were having trouble playing this awesome game on there new Steam Decks! Later-taters!!

Question: This does not make the game playable with a controller, gamepad - correct?
