Introduction 🌊
Hi!

Here's a quick little fishing guide for you! I'm going to add some more information as I'm playing.

I'm planning to add the following information:
  • General advice
  • Fish and fishing locations
  • The in-game quality hints you get
  • The Master perks you can get from Twig
  • Fishing pole upgrades

I'd be willing to make one of these for farming as well if there are any takers, so let me know!
Tips and Tricks
  • Invest in the Fishmonger shop specialisation: when you have a goods shop, you'll be able to upgrade it to a Fishmonger, which comes with several perks including "Small Fry 01" and "Small Fry 02".
    • Small Fry 01: Fish of 3 star quality or below, caught in the morning/evening, will have double yield
    • Small Fry 02:Fish of 4 star quality or below, caught in the morning/evening, will have double yield

These perks will allow you to make more money in your shop and make it easier to get the fish you need for Twigs Master Perks.

  • Time: before you get a real clock, time-keeping can be quite a hassle, especially when you need to know when to go to which area to fish. So a quick list:
    • 4 AM - 5 AM: Dawn
    • 6 AM - 11 AM: Morning
    • 12 AM: Noon
    • 1 PM - 6 PM: Afternoon
    • 7 PM - 8 PM: Dusk
    • 9 PM - 11 PM: Evening
    • 12 AM - 3 AM: Night

  • If you get the first tier Fishing Master perk, you can use your fishing rod to retrieve notes and items that fell out of reach.

  • There's a Blessing you can get on Druida Day that makes fish spawn in larger quantities, definitely worth it if you're planning on fishing a lot that week.

  • You can use the Piscatootle item to order your owl to go fishing for you. As far as I can tell, the fish will be the quality you'd get if you just fished it with the rod. Yay! (Update: I think they might've changed this, I've been getting lower quality fish :( )

  • Some fish need you to have certain temporary traits. There's a ghost trader you can encounter in Rivermoor that curses you if you buy items, sometimes those curses align with your fishing goals :)

Master Perks
In exchange for fish, Twig (at Dreamers Pond) will give you these fishing perks. You need to unlock them in four tiers:

🎣 Hook item: With this, you aren't limited to catching fish on your line!

🎣🎣 Angling Map: Identify currently active fish using the Angling Map feature on the map screen
🎣🎣 Big Hook: Catch fish more easily when landing the hook directly on them

🎣🎣🎣 Unzipped Fly: Attract fish from further away when rippling
🎣🎣🎣 Dace in the Hole: the hook will land accurately in the centre of the target zone

🎣🎣🎣🎣 Fish Food: Throw food into the water to attract nearby fish
🎣🎣🎣🎣 Codswallop: Fish near the hook will be splashed out of the water and automatically caught

Tip: have the Moghog of Cuckoo Wood help you improve the quality of your fish.
Fishing pole upgrades 🎣

  • Apprentice: Line Length I
  • Journeyman: Extra yield chance I
  • Craftsman: Catch Range II
  • Artistan: Line Length II
  • Adept: Extra yield chance II

  • Master: Line Length III

Oh update on my previous comment: I encountered the proverb you mentioned! (and added it to the guide). Being faster means you need up your agility! You can always check these proverbs and what they mean in your inventory under the proverbs tab.

Another tip I recently noticed: talk to the NPC, sometimes they complain about certain things (eg. their stomach is upset because of something they ate), if you then give them something that counteracts the effect (eg you give them Mint because it has the digestive trait), they will give you an option between People, Items or World facts. If you pick Items, you usually get a useful proverb :D

@Cymbiotic

Thank you so much!

It refers to a status effect you can get by consuming certain produce, food or potions. I think potions and food last longer so you should probaby go for those if you're trying to catch multiple Weed Skimmers. If it's just for short 1-2 fish fishing session, produce should be okay and I just checked, Pumpkin ups your constitution. You can check the status effects in your inventory in the food category!

I just got a tip from an NPC that the Weed Skimmer has better quality if you're faster - is that what the constitution up is referring to?

Super helpful guide by the way - I have been struggling with figuring out how to catch certain fish because I can't find proverbs/befriend NPCs fast enough to get their hints.
