Using Cheat Engine to obtain infinite sun

Introduction

I found the I Zombie Endless achievement to be a pretty big pain in the neck, and judging by how small the achieved percentage is, I'm not the only one. It occurred to me one day that I could probably change the amount of sun I had during the challenge using Cheat Engine. Here's my guide showing how you can do it too.

Cheat Engine

You'll need to download and install Cheat Engine[www.cheatengine.org] if you don't have it already

Now be aware, that this installation will try to install some possibly shady programs that are not necessary for Cheat Engine to function, so be sure to decline or "skip all" when the option pops up

Second, it is likely that your antivirus will suspect that this program will be a virus. I'm fairly certain it is a sort of false positive, but whether you continue or not is up to your own discretion.

To proceed with the installation, all you need to do is briefly shut off your antivirus

After successfully installing Cheat Engine, you can proceed to harness the power of the sun.

So now you've installed Cheat Engine, and now it's time to harness the sun



















Go ahead and launch Plants vs. Zombies and go into any mode that allows you to spend sun. I'll be using I Zombie Endless for my examples, but any other mode that has sun should work.

First thing you'll want to do is click the icon at the top left of the Cheat Engine window that looks like a computer monitor with a magnifying glass



















This will pull up a bunch of different processes that are running on your PC at the moment. Make sure you're on the "Applications" tab. It would probably be for the best to not mess with any processes that you're unsure about or that might be important. Double click the Plants vs. Zombies Process



















Now we'll input the amount of sun we currently have into the Hex Value text box, followed by running our First Scan.

















After running our First Scan, we can see a bunch of addressess fill the box on the left side of the Cheat Engine window. Thankfully, we won't have to search all of those until we find the one that holds our sun value



















Now we need to go back into Plants vs Zombies and spend some sun.

















With our new sun value, we will enter it in the Hex Value text box and perform our Next Scan, so the program can search through all the addresses it found with the original value you input, and now look for which addresses have changed to the second value you input.




















You should only have one address in the left box now, this is the address that keeps track of how much sun we have in the current level.



















We will now double click that address in the left box, making it appear in the bottom box



















Double clicking the number under value will bring up a new window allowing us to change the value to whatever we want. I wouldn't suggest going too crazy, as that could possibly crash the game, but any value 99,999 or lower will be fine, and you'll never need more than that. After entering your chosen value, press the OK button.

















With that, the amount of sun you have in the game should reflect the value you put into Cheat Engine.

Conclusion

While I used I Zombie Endless for the examples, this process can be used in any game mode that involves a sun value. If you use this method in one gamemode/level and go to a different gamemode/level, you'll have to start a new scan, because the address holding the sun value will change when you change levels. Just start the scan process over again and follow the same steps and you'll easily find the address again.

Cheat engine from the official site, as linked in the guide, is safe for you to install. However it is picked up by antivirus because the way it accesses game memory and modifies it. Just be careful when going through the installer to skip the bloatware installs. You also don't need to disable antivirus, you can just go through windows defender to allow cheat engine
