Guide trying to make playable this awful game port called Silent hill homecoming

Steps to follow:
-Download the following mod to be able to have more than 30 fps, be able to use the controller and be able to change the graphics settings:

-Download the file wherever you want
-Open the game directory (if you don't know how to do it, select the game, right-click options and you will find the local files)
-Once the game directory and the previously downloaded file have been opened, move the files from the Bin_v3.0 folder to the Bin folder of the game and replace and then move the file to the Engine folder of the previously downloaded file to the Engine folder of the game.
-(OPTIONAL) To change the frame rate from 30 to 60-100-120-etc go to the Engine folder, open the varrs_pc.cfg file and change the values to a "xx" value of your choice

maxFPSLimit=xx
ScreenRefresh=xx
-(OPTIONAL) If you want to activate subtitles always in the file you first change the variable
subtitles=false to subtitles=true
-After this, save and close and download the following xbox 360 controller emulator in the /Bin folder containing the game executable:

-Once done, open it and you will get an "error" message saying DLL file, click on create, check the "Search automatically for setting" checkbox and click "Next" and then click on "Finish". Once this is done, click on Auto and select in the top bar (Among the games to select "silent hill homocoming.exe"). Finally click save and close
PS (You won't need to open it anymore, it will do everything automatically)

EXTRA:
Error on launch gives you an error concerning the PAK:
-If you get this error, go to the game directory, Silent Hill Homecoming\Engine\pak and create a folder called extras.
-Copy all the contents of the pc folder into the extras folder, always present in Silent Hill Homecoming\Engine\pak

And that's it now the game is done and ready to be played in an enjoyable way, I hope it has been of help to you and I hope you enjoy playing a masterpiece destroyed by the bad porting.

I don't recommand the unknown patch. The patch remove the vanilla experience and doesn't fix all the bugs. The QTE is completely removed instead of being fixed. If anything it should be left as an option to remove them altogether.

The FPS uncap / resolution fix among a few other bugs are god sent tho. However need a better fix for keyboard keybind (which are hard coded) , modern controller support and so on..

So I had to uninstall it using the included uninstaller rather than just deleting files and Homecoming with it for a clean install.

It "works" now but it still will randomly crash and with a save point system, it's still kinda sucks.

However, the Bin [v3.0] folder's contents need to go in the root directory's Bin folder and overwrite. Running the SilentHill.exe there will properly run the game, but still cannot launch through Steam and needs to be manually clicked to launch.

There is no option to specify install directory and always installs to common/Silent Hill Homecoming/Silent Hill Homecoming. Even if it didn't, it also installs other folders and files to the proper root directory where if everything was moved up one level, those other folders would be floating around in the 'common' directory.

I can barely get this to run and have been trying to figure out how to install this patch for YEARS. I have no idea why it's so obtuse.

@RieXan is correct in that you have to install 2.50 first, then the latest 3.xx version. But there is nowhere to specify install directory and everything in the common/Silent Hill Homecoming/Silent Hill Homecoming folder needs to be cut/pasted in the common/Silent Hill Homecoming folder one level up.

Your guide is incorrect. You must first install 2.50 (GitHub --> Patch v2.50/3.0D) and only then 3.0G. This is also prescribed by the developer. The PAK error message will then not appear for anyone (The extras folder is only for custom mods).

Correct way:

1. Install Patch v2.50/3.0D <--choose the right game install path. You don't have to copy anything from one folder to another by yourself.

2. Install 3.0G

3. Start the game with the .exe in the Bin_v3.0 folder
