A Guide to TTT RDM and How to Avoid RDMing
By misstiesha
If you've ever been accused of RDM, read this guide so it doesn't happen again. Seriously. RDM is so annoying and if you do it I hate you.

General RDM
Regardless of who you are in the game, these are considered RDM under every circumstance with exceptions for Traitors.
  • You Kill Someone on Suspicion - You cannot, cannot, cannot kill someone on suspicion alone. I cannot stress this enough. Suspecting that someone is a Traitor is not the same as them actually being a Traitor. Unless they shoot you, someone else, or do something Traitorous, you cannot kill them. If you do and they haven't done anything, that's RDM. If you are a Traitor, this does not apply because you have no reason to be suspicious of anyone else being a Traitor. If you are an Innocent, you can kill someone on suspicion during Overtime only if you have permission from a Detective. If you're a Detective, you can kill on suspicion during Overtime.
  • Mass RDM - If you run around and kill every single person you see, regardless of who they are, it's considered Mass RDM and you will get banned. If you are a Traitor, this only applies if you do this to other Traitors as well.
  • RDM and Run - If you RDM and then leave the game, you'll get banned. Admins can track your Steam ID after you leave and ban you from their server for any amount of time they choose.
RDM as an Innocent
Here are the ways you may have RDM'd as an Innocent.
  • You Kill Another Innocent - If you kill someone and they turn out to be innocent and they weren't RDMing themselves, you just RDM'd. You need proof that they're a Traitor before you kill them (i.e., they shoot someone, place a C4, kill someone else who wasn't proved to be a Traitor)
  • You Kill a Detective - There's literally no reason to kill a detective under any circumstances unless you are a Traitor. If you're an Innocent and you kill a Detective, you just RDM'd.
  • You Kill a Traitor Without Proof/KOS - If you kill someone and they happen to be a Traitor, it's still RDM unless you had proof/there was a KOS on them. You can't call a KOS on them unless you see them do something traitorous. If you do, that's RDM.
  • You Prop-Kill Someone - If you swing/throw/use any prop with the Magneto Stick and intentionally kill someone, it's RDM. If it's an accident, make sure the admin understands this.
  • You Kill Someone Shooting Someone Else and They're Innocent - This is sort of situational, so it may not apply if it happens. If someone is shooting someone else, check to see if anyone nearby is shooting at the other person. If no one is nearby and you're unsure of who's innocent and who's a traitor, don't risk it. Make sure you talk to your admin when this happens to clear everything up.
If you're unsure of whether or not you were unfairly punished for RDM, see if these reasons apply. If you weren't unfairly punished, shut the ♥♥♥♥ up and take your punishment. Do not pester the admins or they will get extremely angry and possibly punish you more. If you were, talk to the admins (calmly and respectfully) and see if you can get it reversed.
RDM as a Detective
If you're a Detective, this is how you might've RDM'd:
  • You Kill an Innocent Without Proof - Same as an Innocent, you can only kill someone if you have proof. If you track DNA off a dead Innocent to someone else and they aren't another Detective, you can kill them.
  • You Kill a Detective - Same as an Innocent, there's no reason to kill a Detective if you're a Detective too.
  • You Kill a Traitor Without Proof - Same as an Innocent, if you kill a Traitor without proof (DNA, you saw them shoot/kill someone, they put down a C4, etc.), then you RDM'd.
As a Detective, you can kill anyone you please excluding other Detectives and Proven Innocent during Overtime without proof as long as you suspect them of being Traitorous.
RDM as a Traitor
Here's the only way to can RDM as a Traitor:
  • You Kill Another Traitor - Don't kill your teammates. Plain and simple.
As a Traitor, you can kill everyone except for other Traitors, which is the goal of the game.
What Does / Does Not Count as Proof
To kill anyone, you need proof that they are a Traitor. You cannot kill anyone without it or it's RDM. Here's what counts as proof:
  • You See a Person Shooting You - If you see the person who is shooting at you, that counts as proof and you have permission to kill them. Confirm exactly who shot you before you start firing.
  • You See Someone Shoot and/or Kill Another Person - If you see someone shooting at someone or you see someone kill another person, that counts as proof and you have permission to kill them. Again, confirm who shot/killed before you start firing.
  • You See Someone With Something Only a Traitor Would Have - If you see someone carrying a Traitor weapon (Silenced Pistol, Silenced Sniper, Newton Launcher, Knife) and they are not proven/a detective, you have permission to kill them. Confirm that they are not proven before you kill them.
  • You See Someone Place a C4 - If you see someone put down a C4, you have permission to kill them.
  • You have DNA on Them - If you use a DNA scanner and trace it back to someone, that counts as proof and you can kill them. Confirm that it is infact their DNA before you kill them.
Here's what does not count as proof:
  • Someone is Following You - Just because someone follows you doesn't make them a Traitor. You cannot shoot someone for following you.
  • Someone is Looking at You - In TTT, everyone constantly has a weapon out unless they are holstered. Someone looking at you does not count as proof. If they're aiming at you through sight/ironsight, that can be considered highly suspicious but is still not considered proof.
  • Someone Right-Clicks You with a Crowbar and Doesn't Cause Damage - When you right-click someone with a crowbar, it causes them no damage and only pushes them. If they cause you damage by knocking you off of something, that's proof - if there is no damage dealt to you at all, that is not considered proof.
  • You Suspect They May Be a Traitor - You can suspect anyone all you want, but that doesn't give you permission to kill them. Just because you think somene might be a Traitor does not mean they are. If you kill someone on suspicion, it is still RDM. In Overtime, you can kill on suspicion if you have permission from a Detective.
Exceptions
Every server is different and will approach RDM differently. What may be permitted on some servers is not permitted on all servers, and some servers may be much more strict than others. There may also be mods on the server that add things that change up RDM completely. As I saw stated in the comments, take this guide with a grain of salt; it won't apply perfectly everywhere. Make sure you understand the rules of the server you're playing on and what their RDM policy is.

Well, I'm gay, so I don't think that's really a concern for me. Also, this guide is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ billions of years old and I haven't played TTT or Gary's Mod for ages lmfao.

There is a direct corralation between how often you complain about rdming and how far you are from the nearest vagnia.

MR.G, RDM is extremely situational, so if an innocent is shooting someone, make sure you know exactly why. My advice is to always go to the server's admin and attempt to get everything settled so that everyone understands exactly what happened.

I think rdm makes the game stupid, you see someone shooting someone and you should shoot him, if he is innocent ♥♥♥♥ YOU YOU ARE RDM GG OUT OF THE SERVER N00B

DMangos, sorry that happened to you. Generally (meaning it doesn't apply to any server), if you're going to Jihad, you need to use Traitor Chat (the "U" key) and warn any nearby traitors ahead of time. Had you not gotten banned, you should have notified the admin about the mistake. This isn't so much as a rule, but an unspoken law that most Traitor's abide by and one that is usually learned by making the mistake. The guide doesn't cover these, but essentially, you were both correctly accused and wrongly accused in this instance. Perhaps you could message the admin and attempt to explain the mistake?

Just asking is it counted as RDM if I just jihad a group of innocents in the testing room with just one traitor which i was not aware of. Because I got a ban for just doing that and I find I got wrongly accused.

If someone reads the Exceptions section and assumes that every server is exactly the same, that's their own ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fault. I'm not going to baby a bunch of 12-30+ years olds who should have enough comprehension to understand that not everything works the same way on every server.

Also, I am being an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ because you tried to order me around and said "go fix something I said was wrong even though it's not wrong". Apparently you can't read enough of my original comment to understand that I literally added a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Exceptions section to point out that not every server is exactly the same and that the reader shouldn't assume that this guide applies to every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ server. If you're so worried about people misinterpreting a clearly-defined guide, write your own ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ guide.

A lot of server have specific features, most of them do, so you MUST include some of thoses specifis things to your guide
It's a guide, when a guy will read that he will act like it's the same on every server, use your brain dude
You are the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ right know (by being rude without a reason), and a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idiot...

Well, Kiloutre, if you could read, you would have noticed that I said "[the guide] won't be catering to specific servers rules" in my comment. That includes any mods that change any part of the game. Don't be an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. :)

I just said there was an innaccuracy 4 comments ago, go fix it then
