Sky Armor Setup Guide
Por Snakebearer
I absolutely adore this game. It has so many different systems to explore and enjoy. However, there aren't many guides or tips available yet for character builds or strategies, so I thought I would share my own experiences.

I was particularly interested in the Sky Armor battles. The modular armors, weapons, and RAMs all caught my attention, and I really wanted to understand how they worked together and which combinations were the most effective.

As of patch 1.04, I've come to the unfortunate realization that there is currently a "best" setup. I'm sharing my observations here not to ruin the fun of the game for others, but simply to inform players of the tools they have at their disposal and potentially encourage the developers to consider alternative options.

There are currently two setups that significantly outperform all others in the game.

Best Setup
Equip all four of your Sky Armors with Greatswords and Ether Cannons. This is simply too good. You don't need any buffs, status effects, breaks, or elemental attacks. With this setup, you will deal more damage than you could with any other loadout combination.

  • Turn 1: Energy Flow
  • Turn 2: Charge
  • Turn 3: Change to 2nd Gear - Light/Dark Shot
  • This usually finishes the fight, as you will have dealt over 40k damage to all enemies. However, just in case:
  • Turn 4: Charge
  • Turn 5: Light/Dark Shot

You're done. Nothing in the game can survive that. If you're facing a single enemy, just skip Energy Flow.
The only weakness of this setup is that you need to survive until turn 3 to unleash the full power of your damage. To remedy this, you can either spend some time leveling up your weapons to give your characters better base stats, or you can use the second setup listed below.

Second Best Setup
Equip one Sky Armor with a Hammer/Shield and Support Drones. Equip the rest with Greatswords and Ether Cannons. Follow the above strategy, but include a Full Repair and a break or two as needed. You will deal approximately 25% less damage, but if that small sacrifice allows you to execute your damage window, it might be worth it.

As for RAMs for Sky Armors, they aren't particularly important at the moment. Use the SP UP RAM liberally until you've maxed out all your weapons. Other than that, the way the weapons function in patch 1.04 means that RAMs aren't very important at all. Just focus on getting some juicy base stats or something.

If any changes are made to the game in the future, I will either update this guide or remove it. I hope you have a great gaming experience and enjoy the game as much as I do.

@Punda-senpai That makes me happy. It means the worries I wrote about in the guide was actually considered. :) This guide was written shortly after release, and at the time, this was an auto-win setup, and it made me sad.

This would get destroyed on Hard and True King before turn 2.

Doesn't matter if you use different Sky Armor models then?

Having played 1.322 recently and being near the end of the game, Wyatt CAN survive over 40K of damage. He has about 100K HP on hard mode. In short, not fun to fight against when he acts once then twice then THRICE per turn!

I stand corrected, weaknesses are not x2 damage so Ether Cannon is the best ranged weapon for ATK or INT builds, you are right.

If it has no weakness to Light/Dark ATK builds outperforms slightly because of Crit chance, specially with any ATK / Crit / Crit Damage RAM.

Elemental Cannon is still a very good support weapon as most enemies have Elemental weaknesses in Sky Armor fight and much more flexible.

Continued:

- Max proficiency Greatsword + Bowgun is a must for hard mode for most fights. Energy Flow + Inact + Blind/Silence gives you two free turns, plus poison for the third turn to get some extra damage.

- Because Light / Dark weaknesses are very uncommon, Elemental Cannon is generally better to Ether Cannon DPS wise, plus more flexible. Ether Cannon has the better average DPS if we don't account for this fact though, but it has very little flexibility.

- In single target, ATK builds > INT builds if weaknesses can't be struck because of Crits.

- If enemy has Light/Dark weakness, Ether Cannon is the best DPS output hands down. If it doesn't though, Elemental Cannon or ATK for single target is outperforms vastly and are MUCH more flexible.

This guide has been done on normal mode right? In Hard enemies will outdamage you easily with this build (you wont even have time to set up the 2 first turns I think). I wrote a big comment but it turned out to be 7000 characters so gonna put a little summary better.

- Repeating weapons is usually a bad idea because you lose a lot of stats when not using the max upgrade you found, and you can't buy extra until very late in the game so you are stuck with what you find in chests.

- ALWAYS look for chests on sky armor areas as they usually have the latest sky armor upgrades.

- Bowguns are busted, specially in hard. Get everyone to Rank 5 proficiency for the +5 AGI ASAP, then get someone to Max rank for Inact shot. That +5 AGI is really important or enemies WILL outspeed you.

Going to give this a test. I don't like the Sky Armor fights at all, so being able to "skip" them with this will be nice.
