Introduction
Dead By Daylight is a game made in Unreal Engine 4. Most of its resources are packed into UE .pak files; packaging ensures that all content is up to date, encrypted and in the proper format to run on the desired target platform.

So UE Viewer is required: a software that allows us to view and extract resources from packages.

You can download it from its developer's site[www.gildor.org].
Starting UE Viewer
After downloading it, run umodel.exe (or umodel_64.exe for the 64bit version).

  • Under "Path to game files:", browse and select the path for your Dead By Daylight installation.
  • Check "Override game detection" and select Unreal Engine 4 and Unreal Engine 4.27
  • You can leave the other checkboxes as default
And then press OK.

From here, you can find DBD packages inside "Game" folder.

Paths
You can export a model and its textures by finding it inside packages, but how can you find a model?

Let's start by saying that you can find all the characters' models (including outfits) inside the "Characters" folder.
Here they are divided into Campers (folder for Survivors models) and Slashers (folder for Killers models).

As you can see from this screenshot, developers use for both killers and survivors codenames or prefixes, except for the very first survivors and killers (such as Dwight, Meg, etc.).

Here's a list for characters' codenames or prefixes

View/export models
In every character folder there's a "Models" folder inside, where you can find models for each bodypart (heads, torsos and legs for survivors; heads/masks, bodies and weapons etc. for killers).

In each of these folders there are default and cosmetics bodyparts. You can view files inside the selected folder in the right window.

By selecting a file, you can view it by clicking "Open", or export it by clicking "Export" (it will export model and textures).

In the View Window, you can press O to return into the Selecting Package window.
Conclusion
After getting familiar with paths and codenames, you can use this software to export your models or just simply know where files are located, for example for making custom icons or character portraits. For the latter I will make a separate guide.
