Aluminum cable & metal detectors

This guide will explain how to use metal detectors and get the aluminum material. The same instructions will also work for other metal materials in The Dump area later in the game.

Introduction

Pieces of Aluminum Cable is a material used for crafting at the Photon-2 (Bandit) and Garage (Stalker) bases.
It can only be found in underground caches found by using a metal detector.

Undergound caches

• Underground caches can only be seen with a metal detector device equipped.
  
• Just having a metal detector device in one's inventory (not equipped) is enough for it to beep near caches.
  
• Having the metal detector equipped will drain its battery charge.

Required devices

There are several metal detectors in the game. The first ones available are:

SN-1u Mini-Pancake

• Traded at Photon-2 and Garage bases.
  
• Has a beeping sound and a blinking light to indicate the presence of metals.
  
• The faster the beeping and the light blinking the closer the metal.

SN-2u Leglet

• Received in the main quest line.
  
• Has a beeping sound and a radar light to indicate the presence of metals.
  
• The faster the beeping and the thinner the radar indicator the closer the metal.

Locations

• Caches are only found in areas with visible dirt (no grass).
  
• These often overlap with Nato soldier spawn points.
  
• The areas with caches are sometimes irradiated or bioinfected so having a protective suit may make it easier to find them.

Agroprom

• Close to Photon-2 (bandit) base.

The Dark Valley

• Close to Garage (stalker) base.
