Wondering what that weird advertisement Rusty Lake posted on their social medias leads to? How it's connected to The Past Within? This guide is for you.

Introduction

“Best Kept Memory, your memories are safe with us” is what the advertisement posted to the Rusty Lake YouTube channel and socials would want you to believe, but today we’ll prove it wrong!

Welcome to this guide about Rusty Lake’s new ARG “Best Kept Memory” This ARG was very rapidly solved by the community on Rusty Lake’s official discord[discord.gg], so a very very big shout out to them for their effort and energy.

This guide will solely focus on how to “solve” the ARG.

Emoji puzzles

The eventual “goal” of the ARG is to “hack” into the backend services of the BestKeptMemory website. First of all you’ll want to click “BOOK NOW” on the website to be taken to a booking page, on that page just fill in any information it doesn’t matter. You’ll then be taken to an error page it’ll look like this:

To get to the backend of the website you’ll need to put in 10 emojis into the “How do *you* feel about our service?” panel. To get these emojis you need to solve 10 puzzles hidden on and around the website.

Emoji 1, tooth, obtained from the “some damn good coffee here!” banner.
The first letter of each font for each word spells out "TOOTH":
Some: Times New Roman
Damn: Old English Text MT
Good: Old English Text MT
Coffee: Times New Roman
Here: Helvetica

Emoji 2, winking, obtained from the Hans Adler review.




Emoji 3, thinking, obtained from the George Franklin Duskendale review.




Emoji 4, sunglasses, obtained from the Maya Strauss review.





Emoji 5, two fingers, obtained from the math puzzle.

Emoji 6, rose, from the butterfly option from the MHAF banner advert.






Creates a rose ASCII art when following the enter instructions.

Emoji 7, telephone from the bee option from the MHAF banner advert.






a riddle that translates to: I HAVE A RING BUT NO FINGERS. I USED TO STAY
STILL ALL THE TIME, BUT NOWADAYS I
FOLLOW YOU AROUND = phone.


Emoji 8, star, from the corrupt soul option from the MHAF banner advert.
spells "star" in morse.

Emoji 9, Shrimp, from the FAQ page missing letters.

Emoji 10, deadface, a dial tune plays when you call the phone number on the website ([phone]).
The tone spells out D E A D F A C E.

Putting those Emojis into the panel and clicking “submit now!” will take you to the backend login page.

Logging into the backend

To login to the backend use the following information:
Username: cbrunswick
Username found in an image attached to an email you can receive when you email the website support email address found on the website ([e-mail])

Password: never_forget
Password found when solving the banner ad puzzle on the stories page









never_forget (first letter from each word spoken when the image in question appears on the advert video)

Clicking login will take you into the website backend!

Exploring the files

Once you’re in the backend you can explore a myriad of Client files, I will not be discussing all the content in them (but be sure to check them out the effort the RL team went through for these is stunning). The important thing to note that within the client files are hidden puzzle pieces that supplement the pieces the community found in the hidden scrolls.

To formally "solve" the ARG You'll want to click on "Company Files"

Use the numbered titles from the previous RL live streams will grant you access to the streams in question here.

Confidential Tapes

When you try to access the confidential tapes you’ll be prompted with a required 11-digit code. This code can be found as one of the two “solutions” to the hundreds of puzzle pieces the community combined from the hidden scrolls and the puzzle pieces found in the client files.
The code in this case is 83620543354. After you put in this code you will get an option to view a teaser trailer for the new Rusty Lake game coming in Spring 2023, congratulations you’ve solved the ARG!

MISC

When you try to access the confidential tapes you’ll be prompted with a required Password. This password can be found as one of the two “solutions” to the hundreds of puzzle pieces the community combined from the hidden scrolls and the puzzle pieces found in the client files.
The password in this case is “albertlives” after you put in the code the website will tell you “corrupted files try again later”. If this gets updated I will also try to update this guide.

There is a questionnaire for the memorial lottery and they ask you to enter a application password when filling it out. Do you know what this means?
