Valkie 64 - 100% Guide (Up to date)
By Silver Bunny
Valkie 64: an N64 like, TLoZ inspired game. While somewhat clunky, it's still quite fun! As a former TLoZ fan, I'm here to write a complete guide to 100% this game (both achievements, and collectables in general). Enjoy!

Nov 14th 2023: Anniversary update now included.
Jan 26th 2024: Added update easter egg to the guide.

Introduction
In this guide, you'll find the location of all the Heart Pieces, Sidequests, Gear Upgrades, Cosmetics, and a quick glance at Heart Containers. It'll also include some small hints for the "Three Heart Goddess", "Blue is my favourite color" and "Valkie the Goddess" achievements.

The guide will be divided by the heart pieces you can get in each area, the sidequests of each area, equipment upgrades, cosmetics and how to get them, and some advice for the previously mentioned achievements.
Kizen Realm: Treasures
-The first Heart Piece of our adventure is right next to the Dojo.

-A Heart Piece can be bought at the Store for 100 Saphil.

-Before you climb to the very top of the Kizen Mountain, look down.

If you drop down there and cross the bridges, there's a Heart Piece behind the tree bridge.

-In the entrance of the Forest Temple, climb up the ladders and you'll find the next Heart Piece.

-Inside the Temple itself, the room that's directly connected to the entrance. To get there, you'll basically have to finish the Temple.
Kizen Realm: Sidequests
Keep in mind that some missions will require you to visit different kingdoms in order to finish them.

~Red Fish Subquest~
Entering Kizen Town, you'll want to go to the house next to the lake. There, you'll see Rexy, who wants to have a Red Fish as her pet.

If you now go to Kizen Mountain in the north and go straight to the lake, you'll see the Red Fish. Swim towards it and you'll grab it.

Your reward: A Heart Piece

~Lost Child Subquest~
If you go up the incline in Kizen Town, you'll meet Laxy, a mother in distress. Her child got lost in Kizen Mountain!

Climb the mountain. At the top, you'll see the little kid being attacked by two slimes and a sworded Reptid. Once defeated, Loxy will be safe.

Go back to their home. Your reward: A Heart Piece.

~Fishing Pier Subquest~
The Kizen could really use a pier at their lake. Unfortunately, they lack the materials, but with a Hammer and a Bundle of Wood, they really could make it work!

The Hammer is obtained in Magmu Village, and the Bundle of Wood at the Vexen Hut (check those sections of the guide respectively if you're missing any of them).

With the required materials at your disposal, bring them to Gorxy, the Kizen at the lake shore.

Leave Kizen Town and enter again. The pier will have been built, and you'll obtain your reward: an Ancient Book (item required for another subquest).

~House for Sale Subquest~
Up the incline, next to the house of Laxy and Loxy (the lost child), we'll find Horxy, who wants to sell their home and go on an adventure! It costs 450 Saphil.

Once bought, if you visit the Desert Oasis and look for Ch'airne, you'll find out that they want to leave the Desert... so you just gift them your house in the Kizen Village of course!

Now, go back to Kizen Town, where Ch'airne will be waiting for you, with a Heart Piece as a reward.

~Dojo Pass - Story Quest Reward~
After you beat the dungeon boss, you'll be granted with a Heart Container:

If you now come back to the Kizen Town and visit Elder Zerexy's home, they'll give you the Dojo Pass which will let you purchase technique scrolls at the dojo (the building placed at the other side of the river, near the entrance).
Big Volcano: Treasures
-As we go downhill at the beginning area, we take the turn to the right, where a quite well protected Heart Piece is located.

-A Heart Piece can be bought at the Store for 100 Saphil.

-There's a Heart Piece in the Crystal Cave. Firstly, reach the end of it, and there, take a turn to the right. Go down the ruins and you'll find the chest.

-At the entrance of the Lava Cave, turn left and climb up the "hill".

-The last Heart Piece in this area is inside the Lava Cave. In the main room, take the left turn after the shortcut bridge.
Big Volcano: Sidequests
~Lost Magmu Subquest~
As you go around the Volcanic Area, you'll most likely find a lost Magmu: Morky. Save them!

Once safe, if you visit their house, they'll grant you a Heart Piece.

~Crystal Ore Subquest~
In Magmu Village there is Berty, someone who really needs a Crystal Ore.

The Crystal Ore is located at the Crystal Cave, at the other side of the village.

Berty will award us with a Hammer, item required for another Sidequest.

~Power Armor - Story Quest Reward~
After you beat the Lava Cave boss, you'll be granted a Heart Container:

If you now go back to the Magmu Village and meet with Marag the Elder, they'll give you the Power Armor, a tunic that should protect you better!
Snowlands: Treasures
-There's a small platforming challenge over a frozen lake near the beginning. Don't worry though! You won't freeze.

-A Heart Piece can be bought at the Store for 100 Saphil.

-Jokes aside, there's a Heart Piece on top of the shop Velfen Hut You can even get in the hut from the chimney like Santa!

-Gettting closer to the Snow Cavern, in the Snow Mountain's outskirts, you can find a Heart Piece after another platforming challenge on ice.

-The Heart Piece inside the dungeon is in yet another platforming challenge on ice. This time, the ice is floating above a pit full of spikes, and the chest is protected by a Reptid, so the danger has increased significantly!
Snowlands: Sidequests
~Lost Hat Subquest~
Visiting the Velfen Hut, chances are you met a little kid called Blippy. They lost their snowman's Hat due to a strong wind.

If we now go back near the entrance of the Ice Area, you'll see a small hill, and in it, the Hat.

Go back with Blippy, and in exchange they'll reward you with a Heart Piece.

~Missing Axe Subquest~
In the Velfen Hut right next to the Hot Springs, Frob will tell you that they lost their Axe after being attacked by a bunch of enemies at the Snow Mountain lake.

After crossing a couple of quite dangerously guarded bridges, we'll find the Axe.

Our reward will be a Bundle of Wood, item required for another Subquest.

~Big Saphil Sac - Story Quest Reward~
After you beat the dungeon boss, you'll be granted with a Heart Container:

This time, if you visit the Velfen Hut and talk to Saya, you'll be rewarded with the Big Saphil Sac, capable of holding up to 999 Saphil.

Desert: Treasures
WARNING: The Desert doesn't have a map, so it's a bit harder to guide you through it...

-For the first Heart Piece, hug the left border constantly, and at the border of the second rock you should see it, near the abyss.

-A Heart Piece can be bought at the Store for 100 Saphil.

-Beyond the M'kari tribe's huts, there's a small ledge, where there's yet another Heart Piece.

-In the area right before the Desert Ruins, you can see a bunch of giant bones to the right. In there you'll find the next Heart Piece (sorry, I opened the chest before the screenshot ':P).

-And the very last Heart Piece is inside the Desert Ruins themselves, in the room in front of the entrance.
Desert: Sidequests
Keep in mind that some missions will require you to visit different kingdoms in order to finish them.

~Plant Collection Subquest~
As we enter the Desert Oasis, we should go into the house right in the middle.

There we'll meet Floray, a rare flower collector who's missing the one from the Snowlands.

Now we go straight to the Snow Mountain and climb it. The flower will be waiting there.

We go back to Floray's house, and our reward will be a Heart Piece.

~Book Collection Subquest~
Once again, in the Desert Oasis, in the house all the way to the left we should meet M'arik, the book collector.

If we give them the Ancient Book from the Pier Subquest at Kizen Town, we'll be granted our entrance to the Desert Tomb: the Ancient Key!

~Teleportation Wings - Story Quest Reward~
After you beat the dungeon boss, you'll be granted with a Heart Container:

Once finished, if you go back to the Desert Oasis, K'erym the Elder will give you in return the Teleportation Wings, which will allow you to teleport to certain spots by pressing the D-Pad:
Equipment and Upgrades
~The Dojo~
The Dojo is a small hut located near the entry point of the Kizen Realm, going across the river. Its scrolls are accessible after beating the Golem inside the Forest Temple, thanks to the Dojo Pass given by the Kizen people.

Here we have the different scrolls, with effects and prices:

Name
Effect
Price
Life Potion Scroll
Health Potions now revive you with six hearts instead of three.
350
Haste Potion Scroll
Haste potions now keep their effect until you die!
250
Legendary Evasion Scroll
You can now dodge faster!
575
Legendary Combat Scroll
An extra finish has been added to your combos! But not just that: your parry and jump attack now deal more damage! Definitely worth the price.
750

All this adds up to a total of 1,925 Saphil. It sounds daunting, but if you save up some money, you shouldn't have much of a problem. In the worst case scenario? Time to practice your gardening skills, if you know what I mean...

~Power Armor~
The Power Armor is an enhanced tunic that halves the damage taken from enemies. It's unlocked after beating the Lava Cave, as a reward from Marag, the Magmu Village elder.

~Big Saphil Sac~
A bigger sac for your Saphil, that allows you to save up to 999 gems (instead of the initial 500). Really useful, and necessary if you want to get the Technique Scrolls. It's obtained by going back to the Velfen Hut, as a gift from Saya.

~Teleportation Wings~
A symbol of gratitude from the M'kari tribe leader, K'erym. It's obtained by visiting them after completing the Desert Dungeon. It allows you to quick travel to temples and villages, and also look really fashionable!

~Ancient Sword~
A relic from the desert, you'll have to overcome the challenge of fighting your own reflection in the Desert Tomb, near the entry portal. In order to access it, you'll also need a key, obtained by completing the trading sidequest.

Cosmetics and achievements advice
~Green Tunic~
An attire obtained by beating the game in any difficulty. It is preserved in new saves!

~Goddess Crown~
A fire crown that will be given to Valkie after beating the secret boss, unlocked after beating the game on Hard Mode. An emblem to be proud of!

The boss itself is really cool concept and design wise... but the battle is just awful... here's a guide to cheese it. Thanks Corola!

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2898611545

Once beaten, you'll be Valkie, the ultimate Guardian, the new Goddess of All! But not just that: the crown has the ability to heal your HP! Press the "R" key or "R1/RB" in your controller to heal one heart every once in a while (the cooldown is quite lenghty).

~Achievements~

For the "Blue is my favourite color" achievement, the only requirement seems to be beating the game with your starter tunic and sword. Apparently you can get it if you collect techique scrolls, potions,... (I did it just with the blue tunic, base sword, and potions, so I can't confirm if the rest of things count).

For "Three Heart Goddess", the only thing I can do is wish you the best of lucks, really.
  • Avoid any unnecessary combats: The fighting system, while functional, is pretty junky, and in most cases, you'll prefer to avoid fights entirely. The only place where you'll NEED to fight (other than the final tower) is in the Desert Dungeon: you'll need to plan out every single move you make, and at times, you'll have to re-visit rooms, where enemies will still be waiting for you, in front of the door. In those cases, you'll need to killed them in your first stance of said chamber. And remember: every key you obtain is a win!
(I got the achievement right before the parry was added to the game. It should make things much more bearable, but you should still avoid those fights)
  • Forget about combos: Most of the times, combos will NOT stagger your enemy: in fact, it may cancel their current animation and allow them to instantly attack you! Because of that, boss fights can be extremely tense and demanding.
    • The 1st one is fairly easy: just do one or two hits and back dodge. It has the slowest attack animations, and because of that, it's quite manageable.
    • The 2nd one isn't much different either, however, its attacks will be much less choreographed, requiring you to back dodge preventively. When the small spiders drop, either avoid being agroed by them, or carefully get rid of them as you fight the boss.
    • The 3rd one can be a pain. For starters, the floor is ice, so dodging is much harder. Also, the only reliable dodge is the side dodge, and you'll have to be extra careful with the long standing flames from previous attacks. Also also, the enemy teleports as you hit it, but the attack it may have been doing before teleporting won't, turning it into an almost guaranteed insta-death. And, to top it all off, there are falling icycles and, eventually, a flame will surround the arena. So yeah, good luck.
    • The 4th boss is funny too! it got so absurdly frustrating, that I took a long break before trying again. I managed to get it somewhat stun-locked, making it unable to advance through the arena, and staying far enough from the zombie warriors to not be chased by them. Otherwise, I'd have to hit it once (maybe twice) and instantly dodge back; going behind it when I run out of space to avoid attacks anymore; constantly avoiding getting close to the borders and spikes since they're an insta-death; multitasking as the zombie enemies are let free through the arena, having to attack and avoid three different enemies at the same time while minding the traps; and pray, PRAY, that the boss itself won't make the sweeping attack, since it has the chance of glitch you out, putting you right above the tentacles, not allowing you to avoid the attack, most likely instantly killing you, and if by chance you survive, it probably will have knocked you out of the platform, also insta-killing you. So once again, good luck!
    • For the final boss, just take it calmly. Attack once and back dodge all the time, and reposition if you're running out of space. It'll take space, but in comparison to the other bosses, this one is a piece of cake!
  • I don't need potions anyways: It's just a personal note, but I don't think you should go back to get potions every time you die. It's just extremely time consuming, and since the only one that lasts after death is the Berserk potion, you may want to buy the other ones if you have to visit a shop...
  • Are the gear upgrades worth it, though?: I just avoided them, got both of the challenge achievements in a single run. I mean, the sword would've just been awfully hard to obtain, and I doubt the armor would've made a difference if I have just three hearts...
This achievement... wasn't very fun... Maybe after the parry update, it's all much more manageable, but I doubt it'll be easy... hopefully, a bit more fair...

And we finally have "Valkie the Goddess". For this one, I really can't recommend anything different, you'll basically have to follow the same advice, though this time with more health, and with much more bullet-spongy enemmies. At least here you can take the many different upgrades of the game.

Once done, you'll have access to the secret boss, which you'll have to beat to obtain your crown. Once again, just follow Corola's video:

October 27th 2023 Update
Commemorating Valkie 64's first anniversary, Malte Glade gifted us a pretty hefty update, including the following (and I quote):
- 3 new sub-areas
- new enemies
- new upgrades
- balance changes
- bug fixes and performance improvements
Well it took a while, but here's the well deserved update to this guide too. Enjoy!
Kizen Realm: The Sealed Door
Not too far away from the entrance of the Kizen Realm, we'll be able to spot the Sealed Door.

For the door to open we have to meet one of two requirements:
  • Lots of Life Force: 10 or more Hearts of health.
  • Enough Holy Gems: 2 or more Holy Gems*.
*It has only been tested with the first two gems. I am unaware on wether or not the kind of gems you have change the outcome.

With one of the two requirements being met, the gate will open:

Lots of Life Force

Enough Holy Gems
Kizen Realm: Grasslands I
So here we are! The Grasslands. Pretty, aren't they? Anyways, the enemies here can be quite tough if you don't have the right equipment (recommended at least the Power Armor). That being said, this section, while small, is pretty neat. So go nuts!

If we go deep into the area, we'll stumble upon an entrance, garded by some vines. Defeat them to get in.

Once in there, our next objective is to defeat our first mini-boss: A big sized carnivorous plant with some vines protecting it!

With the challenge overcomed, our reward awaits: The Magic Feathers!

This upgrade will be quite useful throughout the update. It allows us to glide in the air (and in the sky temple, straight up fly!).
Kizen Realm: Grasslands II
Now that we got our new piece of equipment, we can glide over the broken bridge to reach the next area of the Grasslands.

If we explore a bit, we'll find a huge tree with an entrance. However, we won't be able to get in just yet.

So, in order to access the tree-dungeon, we're going to have to defeat all of the big carnivorous plants in the area. There are three in total, and keep in mind: The bouncy mushrooms are near the borders for a reason.

The door will now open, and once inside, our toughest fight yet awaits.

With our foes defeated, we'll be given access to our next reward: The Golden Armor.

This armor will not only half the damage recieved (again), but will also show the health points an enemy has! All thanks to its fancy monocle.

Fun fact: If you do the Grasslands without getting the Power Armor first, you'll be given it instead. In this case, in order to get the Golden Armor you'll have to get it from the elder of the Magmu, Marag.

Sky Temple: The Sky Garden
WARNING: In order to complete this area you'll need all the Holy Gems. It is NOT RECOMMENDED to go in unless you have them all...
So, we handled the Grasslands by ourselves. Now what? Well, if we go back to the Sky Temple, it won't be hard to spot the following:

Welcome to the Sky Garden! Unfortunately, it has been infested by carnivorous plants and vines...

If we reach the building at the very end of the garden, we'll be told that if we want to gain access, we'll have to get rid of the enemies in the area.

So, time to do some gardening! We'll have to end with all the vines and big carnivorous plants to get in:

Inside, we will be informed that, in order to be granted the Goddess Feathers, we are required to retrieve all four Holy Gems.

The Holy Gems have been acquired, the Goddess Feathers have been vested upon you.

I've been informed that this wasn't the intended way to reach the easter egg. If you happen to know how to reach it, please let me know down below. I'll add it to the guide and credit you. Thanks!

Turns out that the update didn't just bring new areas and upgrades, but also a very cute little easter egg to accompany it. If you want to find it all by yourself, feel free to. I'll give you the hint I received by the developer so you won't be completely lost:

Originally posted by dagotth (developer):
Did you find the legendary bird in the new forest area? ;)

Good luck in your hunt! If you need any help, I'll leave a few hints here:
  • Hint 1: The creature you are looking for likes places with high levels of vegetation.
  • Hint 2: The creature you are looking for may be hiding in plain sight...
  • Hint 3: It is plausible to spot the creature before reaching it... that doesn't mean it will be easy...
  • Hint 4: The creature you are looking for is located in a very high tree.
  • Hint 5: In order to reach it, you may need to get to an even higher place, and glide like a hawk.

Those are all the hints I can give without making it too obvious. I hope they were good enough. Now, in case you need more help, I'll share some screenshots and a recording of how to reach it.

Start by going near the highest tree in the Grasslands II. If you use the bouncing mushrooms and look up to the trunk, you may spot a familiar face!

Now, you'll probably notice that this little guy is REALLY high up! But worry not, we can still get to it!

Climb up that tree by gliding next to its lowest branch. Align yourself with the leaves and... glide glide glide!

If done correctly (which isn't very easy) you'll find our little friend!

And now... the video! In case you need a bit of guidance (P.S.: I failed the first attempt...)

Hope you found our little buddy! Wether with help or without it, doesn't matter! This is really cool! Like one of those Nintendo easter egg crossovers you'd see in some of their games...

Thanks and Credit
Thank you very much for following this guide. It was quite fun both making it, and playing the game (eventhough clunky, I really enjoyed it!). I really hope you found this guide useful! ❤️

Wait a minute, why did I say "I don't know"?? It's in the guide!! XDD Either way, thanks for clarifying, @NixEmotions . I guess I was a little absent minded that day >.< :ayos_heart:
NixEmotions Mar 1 @ 12:26am
@D Money theres an engraving you can read in the temple where you get the goddess feathers that mentions that they "will not only grant the ability to glide through the skies but will also grant immunity to all melee attacks from enemies while gliding." im not sure how likely it is that this would ever be useful but yay i guess.

Yayyy!! I'm glad I found the little guy! It's such a cool addition, like a little crossover, really love it!
And gotta reiterate: Thank you so much for the game. I ended up really really loving it, and can't wait to see what plans you have for it! (๑>ᴗ<๑)

I ended up grinding the money in the last gauntlet-like area of the game, just repeating the first 2 rooms over and over. Was pretty fast
Silver Bunny  [author] Jul 19, 2023 @ 11:09pm
From what I can remember, it wasn't particularly hard to get money from enemies? But I don't remember if there was an actually good place to farm it. Maybe the field, with all the enemies and bushes, you can just go from one entrance to another, covering as much ground as possible, and breaking it all(?) Don't know if I made much sense there ^^'
