What makes this guide so special?

The sections are based on trial and error with randomly digging areas that appear to be unique. The information about the Grynchwood codex is credited to Legion.

Why are you writing this guide?

I enjoy helping others and wanted to also preserve the key findings before they are forgotten. Also, other guides do not seem to have the same high standards as mine and are missing key details in having successful runs.

What is the quest?

Adelbert tells you that he needs 5 of each type of codex without providing further information.
To do this quest, a shovel is needed with an extra one for back up. Each location gives a random codex instead of a determined one. It is possible to get all types of codex without visiting all locations by several restarts.

Institute of Antiquities

The first codex is found right in front of the building itself! The location is between the tree and the circle of rocks.

The Three Sheets Inn

The next codex is a bit tricky to get and requires the secret exit under the bookshelf in second room.
Jump on the top web to get to the tiny island with spider.
The codex is located a tile above the small daises are or on them.

Grubb's Tackle Shop

The next codex is located north of the shop.
Dig where the dirt of the gravestone is.

Thistle's Place

The next codex is west of Thistle's house through the opening in the small hills.
Continue heading northwest.
Dig within the red heart shaped mushrooms where the animals are.

Grynchwood (East - Main Enterance)

The last codex is obtained on the hill of butterflies. First, travel west from the docks.
Head southwest until a gray-silver totem is in view.
Clear the enemy mobs and activate switch on the hill to open the gate.
Head north through the gates.
Continue traveling through the spiral and defeat the enemy.
Head west when reaching a fork and use the hidden spider web to jump up the hill.
Climb the vines.
Dig in the center of where the group of butterflies are, preferably where the trio is.

Epilogue

The completion of this demanding quest yields 500 gold and a minor amulet that boosts rum healing. The latter may have more value in future when party healing becomes more important.
