Well the quest down below isn't needed order to do so. If you just want the hair item for styling then all you must do is have enough room, play/ fun, & Food! Without those 3 things it hold you back from taming wild horses & also breeding your horses.

Please note on the top right corner you can see slots, I have for horses, food, playing, & how much I have actually made. Even if you have tons of stables, they will not give you those slots unless you can provide for your horse.

Horse Genetics & Traits through breeding
Please note this is bugged in the game right now but here the information being covered anyways!

The Side Quest: Genetic Lecture

"You can breed horses with special coat colors, better abilities, or certain traits" - Doctor Dorothea

Biodiversity is parents pass their geneotypes which determines the foals looks and traits.

Genotype is the information which gets passed down to the child from the parents.

Phenotype determines how the genotype is display.
Which are the visual things of coat color, eye color, markings, but also characteristics and attributes.

Are characteristics inherited?
Yes, they are.

You must trade in medical herbs to get the genetic testing done on your horse!
Which tells you your horses genes!!!

Skills and traits can come from either parent and be inherited by the foal!

What is a string pattern?
The alleles are responsible for the horses color.
Basically keep and eye on the string pattern to notice for breed specific colors!

Photos below shows you the horses genetic page/ Breed Registry
Photo 1: My Horse Sunflower
Photo 2: My Horse Lora

Horse Traits (1 Missing trait desc)

This Next example is on one thats been breed!!

Also you can help your horse get over some of the negative traits that hurts you game play. Like them being unfit, hates forest, water, beaches, and much more!!

If you pay attention to the order of keys/buttons you tame the horse in, it usually corresponds to their favorite petting order! Haven't done a lot of testing, but it's held up so far.
