Introduction

Death is an integral part of the Garry's Mod experience. In multiplayer, players can prop kill you, shoot you to death, and so on. This can be pretty common, but luckily, there's a way to prevent death. This guide will assist you in stopping yourself from dying.

What Causes Death?

There are many things that cause you to die, common examples are prop killing, getting shot, being inside explosions, and falling. Death can also be caused by running the kill command in the console, this is one of the only kinds of death that cannot be prevented.

Preventing Death without Cheats

It's time for the important part of the guide, the actual preventing death part. There are several requirements to avoid dying:

• Keep your health above 0.
  
• Don't let your health reach 0.
  
• Increase your health if you lose some.

To avoid letting your health reach 0, use the following steps:

• Avoid fast-moving props.
  
• Avoid getting shot by taking cover.
  
• Stay far away from explosions.
  
• Avoid falling large distances.
  
• When your health has decreased, use any of the following to increase it:
  
  • Under Weapons > Other, use the Medkit's weapon's right-click ability. (Gives 20)
    
  • In Entities > Half-Life 2, either the Health Kit or Health Vial (Gives 25 and 10 respectively)

Preventing Death with Cheats

Of course, following the above doesn't guarantee that you'll be able to prevent death, but does increase your chances of survival. The following methods prevent dying completely, but require you have admin permissions, To make sure it's impossible to die, there's two things you can do to prevent dying:

• Enabling god mode for all players.
  
  • The easy method: Utilities > Admin > Sandbox Settings > Players have god mode, check the box.
    
  • The advanced method:
    
    1. Enable the console if you haven't already. You do this by entering the pause menu, opening settings, going to Advanced, and checking Enable developer console
    2. Open the console. The default key for this is the backtick key. This is the one below your Escape key, and looks like this: `
       
    3. Type the following:

       sbox_godmode 1

• Enabling god mode for only yourself.
  
  1. Enable the console if you haven't already, following the directions in the first step above for enabling god mode for all.
     
  2. Open the console.
     
  3. Enable cheats by typing the following (note that this command enables cheats for ALL players, allowing them to also use the command in the next step):

     sv_cheats 1

  4. Type the following to toggle god mode on and off:

     god
