At Villa Le Cygne, which does not claim to rival the spiers, towers and turrets of its closest neighbours, everything depends on the art of detail where elegance takes precedence over ostentation. Because it is advisable, come what may, to forget the misalliance of a joint ownership prohibited by the initial regulations of the housing estate of the Park. As a result, the one that was the property of a certain Fougère, president in 1927 of the Cercle Royannais, seems less designed to capture attention than to retain it. The staging of its main facade is therefore quite discreet, but it is no less effective.

At first glance, the residence is inspired by many other cottage-type villas, with which it shares the general proportions. Like all of its cousins in Royan, its main facade is orchestrated by a side avant-corps whose gable has a powerful roof overhang. In the corners alternate beds of red bricks and dressed stones. Curiously, the traditional bow window which should accompany it has been rejected on the recessed part of the facade. The elegant Art Nouveau style railing that accompanies it confirms its status of discreet architectural coquetry.

But it takes more to impress, along Boulevard Frédéric Garnier, where the escalation of appearances has developed since the creation of the housing estate, like a highly contagious disease. As its land does not allow for extraordinary proportions, the villa Le Cygne has sought its mark elsewhere. She opted for the quality and modernity of certain decorative details. Thus, alongside the traditional wooden railings of the lateral avant-corps, the bow window is surmounted by elegant ironwork where the curves and counter-curves inspired by the plant world belong by right to the interior. 'Art Nouveau. They make common cause with the few ceramics plastered on the upper parts of the facade, in particular with the plaque which announces the name of the villa: two facing swans. Partly hidden by an overhang of the roof crowned by a skylight, it is distinguished by an astonishing composition that has not had a schooling in Royan, where Art Nouveau is still developing with a certain timidity.
