This guide, still in Work in Progress due to the huge amount of information it contains, it's a complete explanation of the Arx Fatalis world.

It contains all type of informations starting by simple items knowledge to explanation of all ingame mechanics to (WIP) character builds and quests.

This guide born from the idea to spread our knowledge of Arx to all new players, and for everyone who daily still want to play Arx, and for who search answers and help in the steam forums as well.

The guide update everyday, in aestethic and content. New born chapters stay in WIP area in the bottom of the guide, ended chapter take their place once ready, so don't worry if you see a different order or chapters, nothing will be erased once added, they just switch position, this happens because we want to put things in order to give you a fluid and logical experience.

Arx Libertatis
Disclaimer: Everything listed in this guide use Arx Libertatis as base, and to be more pecise the latest Development Snapsnot.

What is Arx Libertatis
Arx Libertatis is a mod, that helps to run Arx on moderns systems, they have a website [arx-libertatis.org] and a wikia [wiki.arx-libertatis.org] full of informations.
It's free to install. On the websistes it's possible to find an installer and a manual zip file. Libertatis is avaiable for many different Operating Systems, more information in the download page[arx-libertatis.org].

Libertatis is not a Virus
Since last year snapshot, some antivirus can give an alert. This situation is well explained in this steam discussion [http//discussions+https] and on this video too, that also provide a full guide on how to install it.

We want to remember you, that Arx Libertatis is not a virus, it is safe to install and is almost essential for a better Arx experience.

How to Install

Note: It is important to remember that for run Libertatis, is of course, required a copy of the game, from Steam, GoG, Microsoft store, Xbox store or from CD ROM.
Do not use the demo version of Arx, it will craete bugs and issues along the way.
In case of installation from CD rom, you have to check if the game has the 1.21 patch, if not click on this link for download[cdn.bethsoft.com] it. After download the exe file, you have to run it and follow the instructions. This only for CD ROMs installations.

  1. Go to the official Libertatis[arx-libertatis.org] for download the latest version, or go to the wikia[wiki.arx-libertatis.org] for access, also, to the latest Development Snapshot.
  2. The first two squares are the Installer, first one for windows, second for Linux.
    Second tow squares are the .zip for the manual installation, first for Windows, second for Linux.
    For other Operating system, the links are listed below, in the download page, with all informations needed.

  • Top Right Corner:
    • The stair icon shows that there is a change level nearby
    • The down icons show all the active spells
    • Map pf the current level

    • Torch slot shows that there is a torch (or a candle active)
    • Life bar shows player HP, double click on it to see the correct amount
    • Gear durability, weapon, helmet, chestplate, leggings and shield. The color go to yellow when the gear is at half durability, to orange and red, that is very close to broke.
    • Precast spell, maximum 3 can be precast in same time. Here there will be precast spell by player or by reading a scroll.
  • Bottom Right Corner:
    • The cross showcase that the player level up and still have unused point
    • Money bag shows the amount of money the player has

    • Belt, can be used to open the player inventory or rearrange the items in the inventory by double clicking on it

  • Left page constist of all spells known by the player, if the spellbok is complete, there will be 40 spells divided in 10 levels;
  • Right page consists of list of all known runes, a rune is known when is find and used by the player, clicking F on it.

Maps, divided in two sections:

  • Left page enlist on the side all the 8 maps, by clicking on one of the numbers a map of the full level will open on the page, showing the points of interest with a red cross and the player with a red triangle.
  • Right page showcase the choosen map but zoomed, acting like the map on the top side of the screen
Page 4
Questbook, where Am Shaegar will write hints and record of all the journery. It will update when a new quest, main or side, will start, and it will also update after some dialogues or tutorial screen. It can be useful specially when the player is stucked on some point of the story.
Basic Interactions
Pick up/Drag and drop: To pick up an item click it with left mouse an drop it into the inventory, or use Stealt button + left click to fast take

Use: To use an item in inventory or in the world click F on it, it works on food, weapons, armour and rings. Some items have special buttons:
  • Torch - T
  • Life potion - H
  • Mana potion - G
  • Antidote potion - (need to be binded when Libertatis is installed)

Combine: Double click on an item, the cursor will become a circle, left click to combine with an item when the in center of the circle appears a triangle.
Combine can be used for various type of situations:
  • Open / Close doors and chest with keys or keychain

  • Use pestel and mortar on plants or bones

  • Push plant powder into empty bottles

  • Poison a weapon

  • Add a reagent to enchant a weapon or an armor

  • Refill an empty bottle

  • Make dough

  • Make pies

  • Make apple pies

  • Make apple pie with wine

  • It works for Target NPC in spells


Loot: Double click to open a chest or a corpse inventory. Take the items with drag and drop or to take all click the button at the bottom of the inventory


Sell/buy: To buy take an item from the shop chest; for sell drag an item from the inventory to the shop chest.

Combat Mechanics - Melee and Ranged
COMBAT MODE
Melee is one of the Arx's pillar, even for a non warrior build.
To enter the combat mode is necessary left click when the player is in mouselook code (camera mode) or everytime when clicking TAB.
When in combat mode a new gauge will apperar in the down side center part of the screen, by holding left mouse the gauge will change color to yellow (depending by aiming time of the weapon). More the yellow is intense, more the strike will be strong.

DAMAGE
The damage of the character is calculated by various factors:
  • Strenght skill, in the top side of the character book
  • Close combat attribute the dowside of the book - only for melee
  • Projectile attribute in downside of the book - only for ranged
  • Weapon damge itself; it can be increase with enchantments (regular bone powder or dragon bone powder)
  • Crtitical hit given by dexterity in the top side of the book

In Red - Damage points
In Blue - Strenght skill
In Orange - dexterity skill
In Green - Close Combat attribute
In Purple - Projectile attibute

WEAPONS
All weapons can be poisoned, with a minimun requirement os 30 object knowledge skill. More the level is high more the weapon will have poison hits. Same for the arrows.
Not all weapons can be enchanted, some weapons will reject some type of reagent. Arrows cannot be anchanted, but the bow can.

HOW TO MELEE
The most efficent way to fight is obtaining the high strike possible to hit the enemy, but weapons have aiming time, anf the more the weapon is heavy and big, more the aiming time is long and the damage is hight.
During the charging time it is necessary to fall back, wait until reach maximum damage and run towards thr enemy to strike, paying attention to the enemy attack as well, because they will charge too, so first it's necessary to dodge and later strike.
Enemies have 4 ways to atatck the player:
  1. When the player is a high distance, the enemy will run towards him;
  2. When the player is a medium distance, the enemy will slow walk, charge and dodge;
  3. When the player is close, the enemy will walk backwards trying to stay out of range
Anyways the enemy will attack only with the orizontal strike, so if the player takes an high position it will be impossible to take damage.
Enemies don't have a particular sentitive place to strike (for extra damage) but it's recommenend to hit non-armoured parts of the body or the armour can deflect the strike.
Depending by Dexterity point the chance of critical hit changes, when there is a critical hit the damage duplicates, better if this is done with a short sword or a dagger.
More dexterity can be achieved with garlic enchantements.

STRIKES
To correctly hit the enemy, the aim should be taken in two higlty co-existent ways:
  1. Aiming with the mouse
  2. Changing the direction of the strike. There are 4 possible directions:
    • Striking from up the head, the weapon can barely be seen in the top side of the screen, obtained by pressing W and later left mouse;

    • Striking/Stabbing, the weapon lays in the down side of the screen, obtained by pressing S and later left mouse;

    • Striking from the left, the weapon lays orizzontally, obrained by pressing A and later left mouse;

    • Striking from the right, the weapon cannot be seen, obtained by pressing D and later left mouse.

Note: the default strike, when stand still, is Strike from the left, when the swords lays orizzantally and can be seen.

RANGED COMBAT
In Libertatis the bow can have an improved aim, that can be switched on and off; like for improved rune recognition; also the cursor in the center of the screen can be enabled or disabled.
Bow works like other weapons, needs to be equipped by pressing F on it, or dropped on the open book on character page, but in order to work it's necessary to always have a quiver with arrows in the inventory.
A quiver contains 100 arrows, it can be refilled by combining if with Miguel, paying some golden coins. Once a quiver is completely depleted it will self destroy. It' impossible to choose which quiver to use, since it cannot be equip.

The bow does not have durability, so there is no risk to broke it. It have an aiming time of 2 seconds. The game have only two types of bow, the common one find in all shops and around the world, and another that one, well more secret, can be obtained only helping Lord Inut in the crypts.
The Lord Inut's bow is capable of shoot fireballs instead of normal arrows, it does not consume mana, but it uses arrows.

Magic Mechanics - Basics
Magic is one of the biggest part of Arx, since the game cannot be complete without it.
The magic system in game, called Edurneum, is easy and advanced in the same time. The system is made of 20 runes that require to be drawn by hand to create spells.

DRAW THE RUNES

To draw a rune is necesary hold click CTRL and draw by hold left mouse, once the rune is recognised, that is when the voice will say the name of it, and the icon will appear to the very up left corner of the screen, release left click and start draw another one. Once all runes for the choosen spell are drawn, release CTRL to cast the spell.
Spells can also be pre-casted, maximum 3 per time.
To precast a spell, the process is same, but once the spell is full drawn DO NOT release CTRL, but instead hold SHIFT and later release CTRL.
To use a precast spell click 1, 2 or 3 (the order is given by the order of drawn). To stop a spell click 4 or double click on its symbol in the left up corner of the screen.

CORRECTLY DRAW

Runes recognition is improved by Arx Libertatis, so first assure to enable it in Settings – Control Setting – Improved Rune Recognition ON.
Even with this sometimes the runes can give some troubles to draw. To correctly draw a rune first observe the symbol on it. Open the spellbook and click on the rune to observe how to draw it.
Size of the draw does not afflic the recognition of the rune itself, so in beginning is better to practice drawing pretty big runes, but pay attention to the Border Turning setting; if is enabled and the cursor touch one of the borders the player head will move and probabily will interrupt your casting.
After some practise, it is better to start draw more little runes, in this way the casting will be more fast and so more effective during a fight.

RUNE MEANING

There are 20 runes and everyone have a different meaning and use, learning the meaning of the runes, commonly called “Language of Edurneum” is th ekey to an effective spellcasting.
Learn the meaning of the rune, and its corresponding symbol can be done only by memory, and memory is given mostly by practice. Once a player will find its favourite spells, rememeber them will be easy. In case of havening troubles in remmeber some kind of spells, the spellbook will provide help.
First of all open the spellbook and watch the 10 levels of possible spells

Magic mechanics - Advanced
SECRET SPELLS TIPS
The game features 49 spells in total, but only 40 of them will appear in the spell book. There are two ways to learn the secret spells:
  1. Watching the enemies casting the spells, specially liches; but this is the hardest methos since the enemys have a very fast spellcasting and the runes are mirrored
  2. Learning the language of Edurneum, but this is not complete, since even knowing the language some spell can remain hard to undercover (hard, but not impossible)
They key of understand and learn the language of Edurneum is in the “opposite rune” column.
For example the rune Yok and Fridd are opposites, this can be understand because Fridd is drawn like a reverse Yok, also it's logical by meaning “Fire (Yok)” and “Cold/Ice (Fridd)”.
Once understand when two runes are opposite of each other the following step to lean a new spell is just substitute Yok with Fridd in all Yok spells. This will nto work 100% of times, but is the way to discover all the Ice spells.

Fire Mechanics - Basics
Arx Fatalis is a highly immersive world, learning how to be in contact with this world is the key to a complete experience.
Since the immersive sim core is reality, an important part of this game is represented by fire.
The sun on Exosta is gone, people live in an old dwarf mine to survive the deadly grip of frost, and the only source of light is provided by fire, in all its aspects.


TORCHES
Ignite:
Walking without a torch in hand is almost impossible in this world, outside the comfortable but feeble lights of the city there is darkness.
A torch can be kept in the inventory to be ignited when needed, just pressing the hotkey T or, if it’s in the word or in the inventory just pointing at it and pressing F. 
A torch's maximum durability is around 3 minutes.
Once a torch is in his slot it becomes interactive. 

Once take it in hand the fire is still active and it can be used to ignite other torches or fireplaces around. This can be done by taking the torch in hand and going close to the target or just dropping on it.
To ignite a torch on the wall, also, it's possible to combine them, double clicking the torch in the slot and one click on the one on the wall, this works also with fireplaces too.


Douse:
A torch in its slot can be doused by default with the T button. 
A torch can be taken with the cursor and dragged back into the inventory or also it can be taken in hand and dropped into a water source like a lake or a river, or health pool lake but not a washbasin.
A torch on the wall can be doused if combined with a water bottle, also a bow can be used, just shooting an arrow on it!

Torches, also, can be combined with ice to melt it, as fireballs can be projected to it for the same purpose.


CANDLES
Candles act exactly the same as torches, but they have half of the durability, around 1 minute and 30 seconds.
A candle can ignite a torch, a fireplace or another candle, just moving the active candle on them with the cursor, same as torches.

FIREPLACES
A fireplace is a flammable entity, so like others can be ignited and doused in the same ways, but they have a higher purpose than just emitting lights. Only fireplaces can cook food like meat, fish, bread and all types of pies.
To cook, it is necessary to drop an item in proximity or onto the fireplace itself, cooking sounds start, and the object stops being interactive until it will be fully cooked, in around 5 seconds.

MAGIC
Torches, candles and fireplaces can be activated with the correct spell, "Ignite", casted with the runes "Aam" and "Yok", that means “Create” and “Fire”. _1_11zon.jpg]_20_11zon.jpg]

Ignite activates only flammable items and does not affect enemies or NPCs.
There exists a reverse spell of this: “Douse” that turns off all light sources in a certain range, it’s casted with the runes "Nhi" and "Yok" respectively "Negate" and "Fire". _11_11zon.jpg]_20_11zon.jpg]

Magic and fire are more deeply connected than this, since there is no difference between fire coming from nature and fire coming from magic. So even  the other spells that contain Yok, can ignite flammable items, and following this logic, every type of fire spell can be doused, even an enemy fireball.
The only exception to this connection it’s in the Fire Field spell, made by “Aam” “Yok” “Spacium”, that creates a fire trap on the floor, active for a certain amount of time. This spell does not ignite or cook. _1_11zon.jpg]_20_11zon.jpg]_13_11zon.jpg]

A fireball, casted by “Aam” “Yok” and “Taar”, coming from the mage or from a magical bow can ignite torches, candles and fireplaces, also throwing a fireball to a chicken is the only way to cook it entirely obtaining a fully cooked chicken. _1_11zon.jpg]_20_11zon.jpg]_15_11zon.jpg]


Since, there is no difference between magic fire and natural one, the Negate Magic spell, casted by “Nhi” “Stregum” “Spacium” can glitch torches, turning them off, but keeping the light source working, since the fire and the light are differently scripted. _11_11zon.jpg]_9_11zon.jpg]_13_11zon.jpg]
Fire Mechanics - Advanced
NPC BEHAVIOR
Some NPC in the game will react differently if you try to douse the torches.
  • One of the goblin lords in the goblin kingdom, when you douse his light using a douse spell, he will always ignite it again, and if this "ritual" is performed around 4-5 times, he will become angry and start to attack Am Shaegar, but after reloading the level, the goblin lord will stop ignite the doused torches.


  • Same with Anuk the cook, if the player try to douse the fireplace where he cook; he will ignite it back again, but he will not attack the player.

  • Also the guard on duty to the doors that lead to King Lushire, will constantly try to ignite torches if doused by the player, but they will never become angry enough to attack.


Anyway this will never work if torches are doused by water bottles, in fact it work only if the player cast the “Douse” spell with “Nhi” and “Yok”

COOKING

Not only the player have the ability to cook, in fact, goblins that are part of water clan, always cook the fish before eat it; and  earth clan too do same with rats. Also Anuk the cook of the Goblin Kingdom constantly cooks pies for King Alotar.

CRYPTS
Lights in the crypt can act differently from other places, since crypts are infested from any sort of undead and curses, lights can assume a strange behavior,
  • In level 2 of the crypt, once opened the first portcullis, the two torches will light up by themselves, partially uncovering the area.
  • In level 2 of crypts, also, after finding a key in one of the six rooms, a scream will lock the door and turn off all the lights in the room leaving the player in almost total darkness.
  • In level 4 of the crypts, after the maze of lost souls, a voice will scream begging for help, once reached the room, and get close to the desperate woman, she will reveal to be a zombie, and she will caught the player in her trap locking the portcullis and activating a fire trap under it.
  • Also, in level 5, after stealing the Helmet of Poxsellis from his own tomb, the spirits will become angry, and before unleashing the guards, represented by liches, an air wave will douse all the light in the corridor.

OTHER
A doused torch can hide a keyhole or it can be a lever to a secret passage, also a candle, in the correct place can open secret storing areas.

The Ultimate Weapon
To create the Ultimate weapon is always necessary to have:

There are two different ways to craft the ultimate weapon, the final result will not change, but the game will have a different ending.

Once get all ingredientes is also necessary find the rune Mega, Stregum Cosum (_8_11zon.jpg]_9_11zon.jpg]_7_11zon.jpg]) or an enchanting object scroll (9_9_11zon.jpg]) in case the build choosen is warrior or thief, so with not enough casting points.

To Craft the weapon:

  1. Combine the Koltk powder with the weapon, IF this is not already was done while creating the mithil ingot

The shops buys and sells everything, every type of tool, food, magical item, weapon or armour.

Once the player kills both the Earth clan Goblin and the Water clan goblin, and after reload the level; the shop will be destroyed by grey goblins who kills the twins and loots the chest. The player can kill the grey Goblins and reclaim all the loot without pay any coins for the items in the chests.
Statistics:
Statistics Introduction
The character abilities are divided in 3 different cathegories:
  • Passive statistics are shown in the left page of the character book, this statistics cannot be upgraded directly by the player using skill points, instead the will increase (or decrease) when Attributes and Skills are modified.
  • Attributes are shown in the top side of the right page of the character book. There are 4 attributes and the affect various skill when upgraded.
  • Skills are in the bottom side of the right page, there are 9 skills and the can be upgraded by the player and upgraded when its attribute is increased.
Passive Statistics
  • Health, it's the amount of HP the player has; it's calculated from the Constitution attribute. The healh of the player can be restored by eating food, drinking life potions, or with spells or scrolls like Heal or Life drain. Health can be also temporarly boosted with the Bless spell. It can be also dowgraded by the Curse spell
  • Mana, it's the amount of mana points the player has, it's calculated from the Mental attribute. Mana can be restored by drinking mana potions or with Mana drain spell; also the Ethereal link skill helps to regenerate mana more faster. Mana too can be boosted with the Bless spell and downgraded by Curse spell.
  • Armour class (shortened as AC) is the resistance from the melee damage of the player, is calculated from Constitution attribute and slightly by Defence Skill. AC is mostly given by armour and shileds, every armour in game gives and amount of AC, also some rings can increase it. The Armour spell direclty afflict the AC stat, and can be stacked, it means the player can cast 10 armour spell and obtain 10x his A, if there is enough mana.
  • Resistance from magic indicates the ability to the player to resist from magical attacks from the enemies. It's calculated from Mental Attribute and slighlty from Casting skill. Some armour can upgrade or downgrade this stat, also rings can have an important role for this statistics. There is not spell to boost the resistance from magic, rather than Bless, that generically boost all attributes.
  • Resistance from Poison, indicates the ability to the player to not get poisoned and be less damaged from it. It's calculated mainly from Constitution attribute and slightly from Defence skill. Very few items can change this stat, also it cannot be boosted by spells (rather than usual Bless).
  • Damage (shortened as DMG) is literally the level of melee damage that the player can inflict, is calculated mainly from Strenght attribute and slightly from Close combat skill, and never from Projectile skill. Weapons direclty modify the damage level, same as weapon enchantments. There is no spell that direclty boost the damage, neither rings.
  • Critical hit, even if not direclty written in the book, critical hit is another stat, mainly calculated from Dexterity and lesser from Strenght, it can be boosted by some type of weapons, the most accuracte ones. When a strike gives a crtitical hit the “Double Damage” text appear on the top center of the screen.
Experience and Level up
In the game the player acquires XPs for various actions performed, from kill and NPC (friend or enemy), lockpicking or completing main or side quests.
The XPs can be seen on the top side of the right page of the character book.
The maximum the player can level up is 10 times, since the game starts with Level 0.

Attributes
Are the basic player statistics, they can be upgraded direclty by the player, they affact the skills, and they can be boosted or downgraded by gear, weapons or rings.
During the character has by default 6 points in every attributes and 16 point can be assigned. After a level up only 1 point per level can be assigned. For a total of 10, since player maximum level is 10.
So during all the game, from level 0 (character creation) to 10, the player can add a maximum to 26 points in the attributes.

  • Strenght: "Strength. Determines your damage bonus in fights and your ability to use heavy weapons. Strength has an impact on the object knowledge skill and the combat skills."
  • Mental: "Mental. Determines your mana pool (magical energy) and resistance to magic. Mental has an impact on skills such as ethereal link, magic, technical skill, intuition, and object knowledge."
  • Dexterity: "Dexterity. Determines your precision in combat and increases your chances of critical strikes during fights. Dexterity has an effect on technical skill, stealth, Combat skills and object knowledge."
  • Constitution: "Constitution. Determines your health pool, your resistance to poison and your ability to wear heavy armor. Constitution has an impact on Defense"

UPGRADES / DOWNGRADES

For all the 4 Attributes the Ring of Heroes (found as a reward for accomplish the Oliver's quest) will provide a +1 boost, also the Bless spell will provide a huge bonus that will increase with the Mental / Casting level

  • Some weapons can boost the Strenght, for example like the Ciprian Sword, major improvement if the weapon is enchanted by any type of bone.
  • Also the Ylside armour can boost the strenght.
  • Some items like cursed rings or weapons can higlty downgrade the Strenght.
  • No items, gear or weapons direclty affect Mental, can be dowgraded by cursed items.
  • No items, weapon or gear can direclty affect Dexterity, BUT they will do if they are enchanted with the Garlic. Can be dowgraded by cirsed items.
  • No items, weapon or gear can direclty affect Constitution. Can be downgraded by cursed items.
NOTE: Curse/bless spells subtract/add one point per caster level for all attributes.
Skills - Part 1
Skills define the ability of the character. They can be changed by the player, since they are full affected by the skill points, but also, their value is always modified by one or more attributes. They will also define the passive skills.

NOTE: Minimum value means the default value find in the character book during player cration. This skills are given by the 6 attributes (since attributes boost skills in different amounts).
It's impossible go down the minimum level during the character creation. Since even righ-clicking cannot remove point from the minimum.
(During the game, although, it is possible to level down those skills by curses)

During the character creation (the level 0) the player can assign 18 skill point among this Skills, plus every level up the player can assign 15 more points. For a total (from level 0 to 10) of 168 skill points.

The Skill, are be affected by items, gear, weapons and rings, more than the attributes, since the skills are a more precise definition of the type of build.
For example:
A pure mage build consist in Mental only in the Attributes side, but skills can be divided into Ethereal link, for the mana regeneration or the Casting for more spell power.

Skills definition:
The game defines the skills in the underlined way. A more deep explanation is after the skill definition.
This definition can always be seen in the character book when the cursor point on one of the skills.

Stealth: "Stealth. Makes your footsteps softer, meaning you are better at hiding in the shadows, attacking your enemies from behind, and even pick-pocketing, when your stealth levels are extremely high.".

Stealth skill receives a lot of downgrade from gear and very few upgrades, this because the more heavy is an armour, the more it make noises so it became easy to spot from the enemies. The only armour for a Thief is the black leather set, also Stealth is direclty influenced by the Dexteruty attribute, so it's important to keep an eye on it, and use the Garlic in order to obtain a better boost.
[Stealth will receive a section in this guide in order to explain its peculiar mechanics. Stealth mechanincs is still a WIP and will be updated in the next days]

Technical skill: "Technical skill. This allows you to succeed at tasks such as picking locked doors and disabling traps."

The more this skill is hight the lower is the chance to break a lockpick when the lockpicking is unsuccessfull, also the chance to lockpick is higher, of course. Techically skill is boosted by 1 point from both Mental and Dexterity, and DEX, as you may know can be boosted by Garlic Enchantments.
[A lockpicking section will be part of this guide later on, where there will be more statistics, tips and tricks]

Intuition: "Intuition. A sort of sixth sense which helps you detect hidden objects such as secret passages and traps. Intuition also improves your nose for trading, allowing you to make better deals."

Intuition allows the palyer to sell and buy at better price, this means that with very higher level of this skill it will be possible sell an items with an higher price than the buying price, in simple words this will allow to farm money instantly buy buying selling the same item again and again. The game contains a lot of hidden traps, buttons and passage, and this skill will give a bluish tint to secret passage and buttons, also will show a red tint to traps. More high the skill, less subtle will be the color.

Ethereal link: "Ethereal link. This link warns you of the presence of hostile creatures and gives you information about your opponent's status during fights. This skill also determines your mana regain rate."

This is an important skill to keep an eye on. Mana regeneration can be boosted only by this skill, so for every mage is an important part of the build; but it show on the map red dots, that is the presence of alive NPCs on that section. Now, not always the NPC shown is hostile, but is useful way to scout the zone anyways, more high this skill, better the scout result will be. This with 40 skill points minimum.
During a fight, whith 40 points invested in this skill, the combat mode gauge will shows an aura of 4 different color (to not confuse with the inside color that always will be yellow):
  • Green when the enemy is at full life or almost
  • Yellow when the enemy lost around a quarer of the life points;
  • Orange when the enemy lost around half of the life points
  • Red when the enemy is about to die
The color transistion follows a gradient, so the color slightly change between this 4 color after every hit.
This skill is boosted by Mental attribute and the ring of Great Intuition.

Object knowledge: "Object knowledge. This is used for actions such as repairing things, making potions, poisoning weapons and identifying objects."

With a minimum amount of 30 points, the player can poison all the weapons. More high is this skill, more poison hits the weapon will have.
This Skill also allows the player to recognise objects, all the items in ame have a required points to be recognised, an item need it to be effective. If the player does not possess the required amount, the item will not be recognised, it mean it will be less effective in case of armours or useless in case of rings. The minimum requirement is 30 points. (This can be seen in all the tables in previus sections, for more infos)
This skill also gives the ability of craft potions, once hit the point requirement for a potion, (or for all of them, if the player wants to), the potion will not be more effective. 50 or 80 points, for example doesn't change the XP healed by the life potion.
The player can repair any type of weapons and armour by himself, this combining the item with an ainvil, more high the skill more the repair will not damage the durability of the weapon. Every time the player repair an item, it will gain durability and in same time lost the permanent durability, so the weapon will more fast break.
For example if the player trys ti repair a sword with 30/60 durability, the sword will become 45/55, so techically the sword gains hit points but lost the permanent durability, so instead break after 6t0 shots, will break after 55.
The more the player repairs that weapon, the more it will lost durability.

Casting: "Casting. This skill grants you access to different levels of spells. There are ten levels of spells. This skill also determines ability to protect yourself from magic."
Also an higher casting makes the spells more effective. So offensive spells will have an higher damager and enhace spells will boost more the player, and more the player level is high more he can cast higher spells.


Skills - Part 2
Close combat:"Close combat. Gives you bonuses for striking and for inflicting damage when using any close combat weapon."
This skill increase the base damage of the player, and also it will add ah higher critical hit percentage per level.

Projectile:"Projectile. Gives you bonuses for striking and inflicting damage when using any long-distance weapon in a fight."

It works in same way as Close combat, so more high the skill, higher the damage when using ranged weapons, and with hit higher critical hit percentage.

Defence: "Defense. This skill determines your ability to use a shield, it increases the class of your armor and reduces the amount of damage you sustain during fights."

It afflict directy the Armour class of the player, that basically is the resistance to melee damage.
Cheats
Cheats - Part 1
Arx Fatalis have 3 different types of cheats:
  1. Words of Power that are secret runes that need to be drawn on the screen while in magic mode. The runes don't need to be find, they can be drawn by any type of player/build in any moment of the game.
    This special spells are not always for stricly cheat fot this they will be divided into two cathegory:
    • Cheats, that modifies player statistics or gives poweful items. All of them will print a colorful text in the center of the screen when enabled or disabled.
      NOTE: Some spells cannot be disabled.
      • Console, in Arx Libertatis only. If the console cannot be open by pressing the defualt button, it can be enabled by writing the rimes Aam Mega Stregum Communicatum Spacium.

        The player doesn't need to have the runes in the spellbook. The console can be used to type all sort of commands from add gold or xp to respawn entities.

      • PNUX, randomize the player statistics every frame. Printed Text: ! PhilNux & Gluonne !

      • Big heads, as the name suggests, makes the head of all the NPCs, bigger. This can be considered cheating since it makes the hitbutton bigger. Printed Text: !!!_Super-Deformed_!!!

      • Passwall, allows the player to walk throught walls and doors. It' a cheating spell, but it's veru useful to unstuck the player from the level geometry. This spell can be enabled or disabled at any time, to fast disabled it's necessary quicksave and later quickload. Printed Text: !!! PassWall !!!
        NOTE: Keep and eye where the Passwall is disabled since the player can easy stuck into walls, ceiling or floor when the collisions is enabled.

      • SOS, reveals all the maps in the player book. Printed text: !!!_Temple of Elemental Lavis_!!!

      • SAM, spawns the Lord Inut's bow. Printed Text: !!!_Bow to Samy & Anne_!!!

      • POM, spawns the Lord Inut's sword. Printed Text: !!!_Grosbillite_!!!

      • Special armour, it spawns one of the 3 pieces of the golden armour. Is casted by casting the Armour spell 11 times, Mega Kaom, Mega Kaom...
        In order to achieve all the armor pieces in one shot, is it worth to cast the spell 13 times without interrupt holf CTRL. This is the fastest way to achieve all the armor.

        The pieces of amour are always invisible when equipped.
      • MAR, increase all the player statistics, makes everything looking more pink, makes appear a face under the map, and also changes the color and particles of some spells. For example the "Magic Missile" is pink instead of blue and when it touch a surface it will split into many faces.
        Does not add runes into the spellbook.

        It cannot be reversed. Also if you try to create a new character after cast this spell during a camoain, the new caracter created will be cheated too. To stop this, the game must be quit and open again.

      • MAX, increase all the player statistics, adds all runes to the spellbook. This changes the hero skin to the 5th one. This can be changed by the “Change Player skin”. It also force all the spells to use the caster level 15, same for all the NPCs.

        It cannot be reversed. Also if you try to create a new character after cast this spell during a camoain, the new caracter created will be cheated too. To stop this, the game must be quit and open again.

      • RAF, makes the player a better mage. It boosts all Mental, Ethereal link, Object Knowledge and Casting and all relative passives skills. It does not add runes into the spellbook. It also increase the player speed.
        Printed Text: !!! RaFMode !!!
        It cannot be reversed. Also if you try to create a new character after cast this spell during a camoain, the new caracter created will be cheated too. To stop this, the game must be quit and open again.
    • Non-cheat that just do a minor visual changes.
      • UW mode, it changes all the texture in game (NPCs excluded) to a similar style from the Ultima Underworld serie. The Cheat will not modify anything else.
        Printed Text: ~-__-~~-__.U.W.__-~~-__-~
        It will also play the Ultima Underworld music for a few seconds. This spell can be disabled by drawing the same runes once again.

        NOTE: The arrows 4,5,6 must be drawn on the top of each other.
      • Change player skin, it can be used to change the player skin, following the order of the Character creation.

        NOTE: The arrows must be drawn on the top of each other without stop hold the left click.
Cheats - Part 2
  • Cheat items, where the player need to combine different items in order to obtain a prize. There is only one, is called “Bone chair cheat”. After escaping the prison, in the beginning of the game, there is a table, behind it there is a chair and some bones. Combine the left bone 10 times with the chair. On the top screen will appera the text  "CHHHHHEEEEEEATER !!!!" 
    Many debug items will be added to the player inventory.

    NOTE: In this image the bone is the spawn position.
    The player will receive:
    • 200 Golden coins;
    • All runes in the spellbook;
    • A bag;
    • A bow;
    • Some arrows;
    • The assassin dagger;
    • A meteor saber;
    • A long sword;
    • Ylside chestplate;
    • Ylside leggings;
    • A set of tools;
    • 2 torches;
    The following debug items:
    • A deed for a chicken, it represents all the books and notes in the game. By pressing F on it all of them can be read on the top of the screen, also when an item is combined with tis "chiecken" the choosen note will pop up on the screen.
    • A ring (unidentified), by pressing F on it makes the player choose a preset build, after choose it requires that an item in combined with it. This will change the player statistic and it will give him some items. It make possible to choose between:
      • Poor warrior gives a short sword, a leather chest and leather leggings;
      • Medium Warriror gives a long sword, chainmail helmet, chaimail chest and chainmail leggings;
      • Strong Warrior gives a Giant Slayer, A plated helmet, a plated chest and plated leggings;
      • Poor Thief gives black leather chest and clack leather leggings;
      • Medium Thief don't give items;
      • Strong Thief don't give items;
      • Poor Mage don't give items
      • Medium Mage don't give items
      • Strong Mage don't give items
      • Master don't give items;
        When this cheat is applied all the runes appear in the spellbook, but if the player will mess up with the non magical builds, runes will disappear; if later apply Master all runes will come back except for Cetrius. This ring is cause of some bugs that aren't still fixed
    • A sausage (special), it will not show the name when the cursor touch it, when press F on it, it will nagigate between all 14 points of scenario from the game, techically between the quests. After choose the quest, combine an item on it and double click on the stair on the upper screen to teleport.
      This MAY cause bugs
    • A sausage (demo), it act like the other sausage, but it contains only 7 points of the scenario.
    • A trashcan, when an item is combined with it, it will disappear forever from the world.
      Use with caution

    NOTE: In this image, instead, the bone is closer to the chair to make more fast the 10x combine iteration. The bone can also be positioned into the player inventory.

  • Menu cheat, a secret combinations of click made in character creation in order to create the special hero, that is the 5th character in game.
    When create a new game:
    1. Press 10 times Quick generate.
    2. Press 8 times Appearance.
    3. Press Done, the button changes color.
    4. Press Appearance.
    5. Press Done.
    The hero will have slightly increased stats, and there will be some spare point to rearrange, but by clicking again the Quick generate, they will come back to more legal ones; also right clicking on the skills or attributes (only after quick generate to legal stats) will permit to reassign attribute and skills.
    This means that is totally possible to play a legit gameplay by using this skin!

Fixes:
Steam Overlay fix:
Since last patch the overlay stop work, to manually fix it, follow this steps:
Important, you must have Libertatis installed

  • On the top bar of the Steam app, click add non-steam game, click on "Browse", go in program x64 -> steam -> steamapp -> common -> Arx Fatalis and select arx.exe (with Libertatis icon) and confirm




  • Go in steam library, right click on this game and select "add to desktop"



  • Go on desktop, right click on the icon (still Libertatis) click properties, and copy the link

  • Go in Arx Fatalis the steam game, and watch all files ( here program x64 -> steam -> steamapp -> common -> Arx Fatalis) select arx.bat and click edit with notepad



  • Erase everything it written and write
    @echo off start paste_your_link %* pause



  • Save the bat file and normally start Arx

In the end the game will start normally, Steam will calculate normally the playtime and you will have a working overlay!


High resolution Backgrounds:
Download the Backgrounds folder from the link [disk.yandex.com], it contains two folders:
  • Menus will contain Main menu and Credit background;
  • Book will contain the background shown in the character creation.

  • Once Download the Menu and Book folders
  • Go in the directory steam/steamapps/common/Arx Fatalis/Graph/Interface/ and Drag and drop or copy and paste the folders

Golden Armour Fix:
The Golden armour dropped from the Ylside MX, is invisible when equipped.
To fix it, click the link [disk.yandex.com], download the file from the folder "Golden armour Fix", and uncpack the archive (by drag and drop, or copy and paste) directly into the arx folder locate in steam/steamappp/common/Arx Fatalis.
Accept to substite file.

Shield of the Ancient quest
Once get the access to the crypt the player must reach the level 3 of it to reach the shield, the location is signed by a red X on the map.
In order to acquire the shield the player mush acquire 6 stones with a carved sign, this are gathered in the 3 levels of the crypt, and exaclty 2 per level.

Solve the Puzzle

Once all stones are in the player inventory, the player can pass the lava corridor to access the big room, where Galdivir the ghost will spoke giving 2 riddles to the player.
To solve the first riddle the player mush rotate the 6 rotating plates, every symbol reported on the stone leads to a precise room into the big hall. Watching careful the floor in this 6 rooms, the player should understand the correct order.


When the player rotates all the plates in the correct position, Gladivir will speak again, giving the second part fo the riddle. For solve the second part the player must place the stone on the rising pillars. The most close symbol on the rotate plate to the light symbol on the floor is thr correct stone to put on the pillar.


Once the player place the stones correclty the gate shall open, there will be a tomb, inside of it, lying on a corpse there will be the Shield of the Ancients.
