Actually, the author is absolutely right about not needing to feed the cat in the prologue. I just fed him from 1st chapter onward and I still got the special quartz in the finale. If you didn't get it upon feeding the cat for the last time in the finale, you probably just forgot to feed him in a previous chapter.

Excellent guide, but I'll say one thing: the guide says you don't have to feed the cat in the prologue to get the item at the end, just every chapter and the intermission. I swear I did this, but I didn't get the item. So; feed the cat in the prologue, too, just in case.
