(STEAM DECK) How to Play on Your Old Account on SteamOS
By x0rda
The Steam Deck is on a Linux software which can be unfamiliar to Windows users. The point of this guide is to walk you through the steps of downloading the web/steam W101 launcher, transferring files, and then ultimately being able to play your old W101 account on the steam client (on the Steam Deck).
I haven't seen any helpful guides relating to this specific topic, so I thought I would share how I was able to access my wiz account that wasn't made on steam, on SteamOS. I just wanted to post this here to help anyone that was interested. Sorry in advance for any grammar mistakes. :)

Step by Step
1. The first thing you will do is downloading the steam version of W101. Once you have this downloaded, all you have to do is start up the launcher. You do not have to sign in, just open the launcher and exit.

2. Click the Steam button<Power<Switch to Desktop.

3. Open your browser of choice and go on the W101 website to download the launcher.

4. Once the setup is downloaded, you do not have to open it. Instead, go into Steam (still in desktop mode). On the top left click Games<Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library<Browse.

5. On the top section in the "Look in:" drop-down, click "/". Next, click Home<Deck<Downloads. Click the wizard setup, then at the bottom click "Add Selected Programs"

6. Go into your steam library (still in the desktop mode) and find the setup in your library. Click on the setup, then to the right of the play button there will be a settings cog. Click the settings cog<Properties<Compatibility. Check the box that says "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool". Go under the "Proton" drop down under the checkbox and select "Proton 7.0-4" (EDIT - Proton updates versions frequently. Pick the most recent Proton release)

---At this point, you will be able to use the normal launcher through steam---

7. Exit out of desktop mode. Go to your library and go under the "Non-Steam" tab.

8. Click on the Wizard launcher and click play. Sign in and start the game up.

9. Exit out of the game. Go back into desktop mode.

10. At the bottom left of your desktop, open the file icon "Dolphin".

11. On the top left of the dolphin window, click the 3 bars(pancakes, hamburgers). In the drop-down, check the box for "Show Hidden Files"

12. On the left hand side scroll down until you see "home" (at the bottom, under the "Devices" section). Click on home.

13. Click on Deck<.steam<steam<steamapps<compatdata. You will see a bunch of folders (depending how much stuff you have downloaded) with a random generated ID. Non Steam apps tend to have a longer ID number. You will need to search through the folders until you find the one for wizard. (Click on a folder<pfx<drive_c<ProgramData.) When you find the correct one, one of the folders should say "KingsIsle Entertainment".

14. Open KingIsle Entertainment<Wizard101. Copy all of the files in this folder. (select them all by holding the right touch-pad and dragging, then click the left touchpad to bring down the drop-down to copy).

15. Go all the way back to where we started. On the left hand side, scroll down and select "home".

16. Select deck<.steam<steam<steamapps<common<Wizard101.

17. Select all of the files in this folder, right click and click "move to trash".

18. Copy the files you copied earlier and paste them into this folder.

19. Exit desktop mode, play Wizard101 on Steam, sign in, and everything should work.

I hope this helps you to continue your wizard journey on your Steam Deck! If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I would recommend configuring some of your controller buttons. To do this, have your game open and press your steam button. Then go to your controller settings. Make sure your current layout is on "Keyboard (WASD) and Mouse". You can edit your layout. For example, in this game you need to press "x" to enter a dungeon/tower, talk to someone, or pick something up; I have my "x" button set to the x key. Another example is I have my "y" button set to the enter key so I can chat. Although, for chatting in this game you still need to press the steam button and the x button at the same time to bring up the keyboard once you are in the chat box. Hope this helps.

Working on getting this set up, but I'm stuck on step 5. If someone can explain step 5 in better detail I'd appreciate it. Super helpful thread

I almost never comment on threads but here I just couldn't help myself. You covered every single base, went step by step, and the best part? It all worked in the end and better than I had anticipated. I hope you have an amazing day today and enjoy your clever award!

I was a bit confused why there was more steps after 8 but now it makes sense. It allows us to use the steam version to launch the windows version essentially but with the steam benefits. Thank you so much!

Yes, the latest 8.0-2 Proton should work. I haven't done this process since 7.0-4, but the latest should work with it fine
