l4d2 has a different animation workflow thing going on. there are layered anims, which are the ones you see in-game and non-layered anims, which act like a timer for the anims.
the sound events are played on the layered anims but they get all screwed up upon decompiling. this can be fixed by simply using the non-layered anim but that anim in this case is cut very abruptly, because the layered anim is longer than the vanilla animation and it's cut short just so that there aren't any problems while playing online.
normally i just work with the files that i get from decompiling, but until i can get the source files there really isn't much i can do
