We consider the translation and the installation to be in beta - feedback would be appreciated.
Gameplay videos (click the title and go to full screen to see the text)
This video includes speech in Hebrew which is not yet present in the released version - we're still working on it:
This is a 4-hour video of the art ending from the game, with Hebrew subtitles and Hebrew in the actual ending. If you can't play the game, watching this for four hours is the best way to experience the video, but if you can't do that either, going to Youtube and clicking the links for the various time points might be a good idea.
Why translate The Stanley Parable into Hebrew?
Because it was fun to do. This project grew out of the Hebrew translation of portal, and with the assistance and encouragement of the Hebrew Adventure[www.facebook.com] community. From a complexity standpoint it was somewhere between working on Portal, and Black Mesa which is our next Source game (probably).
What you're getting
What's translated:
  • All of the subtitles (including closed captioning)
  • Parts of the menu
  • Some objects in the game that had English text on them
  • Various texts throughout the game
  • Epic and Steam versions are supported, and possibly the Humble Bundle version as well (but that one wasn't tested)
  • Text is aligned to the right, and has colors and formatting wherever those existed in the original text
  • Some of the subtitles, for which there's a very specific reason to do so, are available in both male and female versions.

What's not:
  • Work on speech is still in progress and it will be released separately
  • Tons of objects in the game to translate, but that's a lot of work and we want to focus attention elsewhere right now
  • Installation only supports Windows at the moment - If you have Linux or 32-bit mac and want to get this to work, contact me. The Steam zip version works with PlayOnMac.
  • The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe is not supported.
  • Some texts buried within the game code
Installation
You need a working installation of the game - purchase it through Steam or Epic if you don't have it.
The Epic installation may or may not work on the Humble Bundle non-drm version - this wasn't tested, we'd be happy if you could share your experiences if you have that version.
In Github [github.com] you can find a list of installations, divided by store (Steam/Epic) and male/female.
Installations are also split to Exe and Zip installations.
For the EXE installations:
  • Your antivirus software may alert on an uncommon file - if you can't get past this, use the zip version.
  • You need to run the file, and then press 'y' and 'enter'. The installation will ask you to verify that the folder being installed into is the main game folder, or otherwise choose the main game folder.
  • You can remove the installation by rerunning the exe, pressing 'u' and then 'enter'. As before you will need to choose the main game folder.
  • When running the game following the Epic installation, you will need to choose "Upload to the cloud".

For the ZIP installations:
Epic:
Assuming the main game folder is TheStanleyParable :
Backup TheStanleyParable/thestanleyparable/gameinfo.txt
Extract the zip into the main game folder. It will overwrite gameinfo.txt.

To remove, if you wish first backup thestanleyparable_dlc1\save and thestanleyparable_dlc1\screenshots.
Then delete thestanleyparable_dlc1 and restore the gameinfo.txt backup.

Steam:
Extract the zip into the main folder (should be something like The Stanley Parable).

The game might get stuck at the beginning upon the first run following installation - after restarting it there shouldn't be a problem.

Code and other RTL languages
Theoretically the solution that reorders Hebrew will work with other RTL languages such as Arabic, but this wasn't tested or completed.
If you're a programmer with interest in this, or in the code in general, have a look at this Github page:
https://github.com/sigmagamma/portl
Notice that the code does not include translation files that are required to run it and are included within the release.
