Arriva New GTW (8 car)

Arriva is a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn (DB) which is providing rail services on regional lines in the Netherlands besides Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS), which is operating on the ‘main lines’. Most of these lines are not electrified which is why they are using diesel driven trains from the type GTW. These were built by Stadler.

Arriva almost has around 68 of these trains operating in the north of the Netherlands on the lines Leeuwarden – Groningen and many more.

Since 2020, the trains are modernised and got a new exterior appearance. The red was replaced by blue to give it a more modern look, which is the inspiration for this new asset. Also the Dutch name “Spurt” that the trains had was removed.
