Introduction
King Slime, the most formidable foe of the first maybe 2 hours of playing Terraria, however I do understand many of you may struggle with the changes made to the bosses in Expert and Master modes, Therefore, this guide aims to help you on Master Mode, however all advice can be applied to other difficulties, maybe except classic, depending on the AI changes made for the boss in question (for example, Eye of Cthulhu's dashes in the final third of the boss fight are not in Classic Mode and advice for it shouldn't be taken into account for a Classic Mode playthrough).

I will be in future guides marking what these differences are before going in-depth on how to counter them, so you can find what is applicable to you and find it fast.

If this guide helps you, throw me a like, maybe a favourite, and possibly an award :)
Spawning, All Class Accessories, and General Strategy
Wow, we have a lot packed into one section, so lets run through it quickly so you can go straight to your class, if you haven't done so already.

One of the most easy or infuriating boss spawn items to craft depending on what kind of mindset you have on committing mass genocide on slimes across your world, to craft the Slime Crown you need 20 Gel and 1 Gold/Platinum Crown. Realistically, the hardest part is going to be finding the Gold/Platinum and a Ruby, so if you plan on farming the boss, you should create a gemcorn farm to make collecting to Rubies easier.

In general, all classes should have these accessories to make life easier, Hermes Boots, Band of Regeneration, and a Cloud in a Bottle. All three of these are easy to obtain items which makes the game easier in general anyway, but should be acquired before challenging the King Slime. As a rule of thumb you should have a few Life Crystals under your belt anyway. Buffs like ironskin, regeneration, and thorns all come in handy but aren't necessary, however will make your life so much easier.

The boss arena for this fight is very simple, flatten out a large area of ground, maybe have a few campfires or sunflowers, and that's about it. All you have to do is spawn it on one side and walk along as you attack him, dodging his jumps. The only way he attacks is by jumping at you, however take note that he can teleport to you if you get to far away and that as he takes more damage, he gets smaller, faster, and spawns slimes to assist him.

Melee
Now, I won't be the first to admit that melee is a bit of a underwhelming class most of the time, and by the time it gets good you just become mage with more defence and no mana. This definitely shows early game with your very low choice of options for going with a pure melee only build.

For melee I would recommend going down standard progression, mining ore, getting standard armour and swords as you go. However, one you get to around the gold/plat tier (or earlier depending on how much you are willing to die and trek back to the jungle) you can delve into the Underground Jungle to craft an Amazon and a Blade of Grass. If your world gen blesses you, you can use an Enchanted Sword and/or a Starfury, which I highly recommend as they both allow you to keep your distance and output damage.

There's not much in the way of accessories for early game in most classes, but while you are in the Underground Jungle you can pick up some Feral Claws for the auto-swing and swing speed bonuses and some cobwebs to make White String, which boosts your yoyo's range. Make sure you have the other accessories mentioned in the all classes section above, as they are paramount in making sure you don't turn into a human pancake underneath the King Slime.

While the Blade of Grass can be used to clear up the smaller slimes, I would recommend focusing the King Slime with the Amazon/Starfury/Enchanted Sword from a safe distance. Remember, if your arena is long enough, you should only have to move at a decent pace away from him and you wont have to dodge anything and you can wail on him with longer ranged attacks.
Ranged
Ranged by far has the easiest time in Terraria once you get past wooden bows and start using actual firearms and war crimes as weapons, and the choices of weaponry show this

As a ranged player you can choose from two sets of armour, the Fossil Armour set or Gold/Plat Armour. Fossil Armour is more difficult to obtain, crafted with Sturdy Fossils[terraria.wiki.gg] from the Underground Desert but grants the player 20% chance to not consume ammo and overall a 5% ranged damage increase and a 8% ranged crit increase. However for players not willing to put the risk or the time into it, Gold/Plat Armour is a solid choice with greater defensive stats.

Very simply put, as a ranged player, you should be using the Minishark, with some of the easily best DPS of any pre-hardmode gun, and being accessable the second the Arms Dealer NPC moves in, you have no excuse to not use this gun. Other secondary choices include The Undertaker or the Musket (depending on your world evil), and the Boomstick (found in the underground jungle). Bullet choice is up to personal preference, however Musket Balls are always a good choice for reliable and steady damage output.

As a ranger, you require no specific strategy whatsoever, all you do is run away from the King Slime and shoot. With your busted DPS and the Minishark, you'll shred him faster than I shred the letters I get from the IRS about me dodging my taxes.

However, if you come across a Pinky and kill it, you can access the forbidden technique as a ranged player...
Mage
Ahhhhh, the nerds of the Terraria classes, sitting back waiting for their mana to regen, as their ranged teammate blasts their endless stream of ammo, however Mage is the prime example of be careful who you make fun of in high-school as by the end, you'll have the highest DPS in the game. Unluckily for you, this is pre-boss and you are just a scrawny low mana, low defence, low DPS class. But we can still drag you along and help you get at least something done right?

First of all stock up on Mana Crystals, not saying that again. As a mage you have a a few choices, but the general best one is the Jungle Armour[terraria.wiki.gg] using general Underground Jungle materials. The armour set gives an overall +80 max mana, 12% magic crit bonus, 8% magic damage bonus, and 16% reduced mana cost.

For weapons, your selection is limited but you can use a gem staff (Diamond or Ruby recommended) with the Vilethorn or Crimson Rod (dependant on your world evil).

Summoner
Finally we arrive on summoner, since the Don't Starve crossover a new very viable early pre-hardmode summon has become available, Abigails Flower[terraria.wiki.gg], which has a chance of spawning next to tombstones, however the Slime Staff, Flinx Staff, and Vampire Frog Staff are all viable as well. For a whip, you could fill out the bestiary a bit and buy a Leather Whip from the Zoologist NPC, or you could take a few trips to the Underground Jungle and get the Snapthorn, which is the second best pre-hardmode whip in the game.

The Flinx Fur Coat is the only real summoner armour piece accessible this early, so you can wear it with whatever armour gives you the highest defence bonus (Gold/Plat). For accessories I would pair the Feral Claws for the increase to melee speed and a Shark Tooth Necklace if you can get your hands on one.

Pepper the King Slime for as far as your whips range lets you with your summon taking care of most of the hard work.
Loot
So you followed the guide and destroyed that loser, Well Done!

...now what do you get?

While some of the drops from the King Slime can be useful, the majority aren't the best in the game, understandably as he is the first boss. The Slimy Saddle is a great mount with increase jump height and fall speed, and it deals damage to enemies you land on. The Slime Hook is great if you didn't already have a hook, and the Royal Gel is a neat yet very situational Expert Mode drop.

Thanks for Reading!
Thank you for reading this guide about defeating something which should arguably be a mini-boss, however I hope some insight can be gained about the boss fight. Like, Favourite, or even award me if you are so inclined.
