The History of Mat.

Mat first appeared as a cameo in Emily is Away 2. In the second installment of the video game series, the player could not directly converse with Mat instead could only look at his profile which went under the username of matatat7.



In most aspects, he is an irrelevant character in the second game. If you do click on his profile he does send links to memes. In the last chapter of Emily is Away 2 it is said that Mat gets together with Kelly another irrelevant character in the game.

It was a small taste of what was to come with the character. He would soon take a bigger role in the third installment of the series. Emily is Away <3.

Mat The Great.

Mat made his best debut in Emily is Away <3. In this game instead of a background character, he took a much more important role; he is the main protagonist's best friend.




You the player are in a friend group consisting of Emily (Love Interest), Evelyn (Love interest), Mat (Best Friend), and Kelly (Mat's girlfriend).

Mat is outgoing and funny. He cares about everyone in the group very much and never tries not to hurt anyone. Although he is a flawed character and in the story, he takes his teasing too far and is mistaken for "flirting" with one of the love interests (based on your route with Emily or Evelyn). As the main protagonist after hearing this news, you can sell him out or keep it a secret. Whatever choice you choose Mat always comes through with you till the end.

Here's some background info on Mat: He was born on 6/5/19XX and his residence is the made-up town of Natick, Massachusetts.

Regardless of your choices, Kelly does break up with Mat due to "reasons". At this point in time Mat is more mellow and sad however he does keep up his goofy attitude. Mat changes his facenook account after the ordeal. His colors change from orange to a more chill light blue.




Mat is always at your side. However, not all is going well with you and your girlfriend. Mat notices that she's been hanging out a lot with a certain jerk. He tells you something is up and offers to assist you by allowing you to talk to the jerk using his account. His password to his account is "3OH3FOREVER". This is a reference to his favorite music band, "3OH3".

If you sadly do get the ending where one of the love interests breaks up with you, Mat consoles you. He goes as far as to mock the love interest by calling her a "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥".

Why is Mat so great?

Matthew is the best character in the story hands down. Not only does he sacrifice so much so that the main protagonist is happy. He is always by your side and rarely ever asks you for anything more than being his friend.

Fans of the game had even suggested that Mat should've been a love interest due to his incredible success.

You can treat him like absolute ♥♥♥♥ and he will still be there for you. He loves to see you and Emily happy. That's all he cares about. Sometimes I get worried that he doesn't take care of himself as much as he should. There's no surprise he is the most liked character. Treat Mat like a king because...

Mat is more than your best friend.
