Trade Routes and QoL Tips
By Dynamiez
I think with the new Update v0.20 this guide is now outdated...

You are new, making missions and think you dont make enough money? Then start trading a few goods. Will earn you definitive more money for the same trip. Because trades dont raise your reputation and you will want to raise it to get higher discounts so your trading routes will get more profit try to additionally take 1 or 2 or even all 5 missions with you.

I add a few general tips at the end. Most of them you will have discovered already on your own but... why not.

General rules
The buying price for trade goods on small islands is always the same, no fluctuation (Proviant like rum themes to vary nevertheless. Price for trade goods like grain in capitols theme to vary too). Its different in other ports so i only write the best spot to buy. It will only lower with a higher reputation but never raise.

The selling price fluctuates from a minimum to a maximum on a daily base and from port to port. I only write the best selling port in the same archipelago.
Because you want to sell for the highest price sometimes you have to wait a day or 2 (or 4) at the dock. It costs you only very little proviant to wait so its better to wait for the highest price although you might have to buy a bit of water. Sleep most of the time till next day, for nutrition you should do fishing from your boat or the dock cause it only costs a few hooks (A crate cost 30, include 20 hooks and you can sell the empty crate for 20). A hooks lasts approximately for 3 fishes so for 10 gold you can eat 60 fishes. You only consume water for waiting.

I am relative new to the game so if you are more experienced then me and help me with a few tips or find mistakes in this guide, feel free to leave a comment and i will update this guide.
Profitable trade routes
If you know if a price is somewhere lower or higher pls leave a comment

Purchase prices for me are set by 16% discount which you can achieve really fast so i write the lowered prices in brackets as an example to show how your profit raises with higher discounts. On your way back to buy the next cargo take a few missions so you don't sail empty.
Sell prices vary, like said before on a daily base, between a minimum (which seem to equal the buying price without discount), +20%, +30% or +40%.

Quality of life tips
Compass - you dont have to put it down anywhere, if you wish you can just put it in your inventory, it will work from there. So if you are steering your boat just push tab and you see your course. Even in 3rd person view you can see your compass.

Chronometer - aka Clock. The same, you can wallmount it but if you put it in your inventory you have some sort of watch and can read the time whereever you are.

Chip log - You can use it everytime you want to check your speed ooooor you cast out the probe and then put it near your steering wheel (perhaps on a table). You then have a steady speedometer.

Fishing rod - While you sail, near always cast out your fishing rod. While in hand you can steer your wheel, use winches, walk on your boat but in the same time you fish and can even use your mouse wheel to catch the fish.

Storage at dock - There is no storage at the dock where you could put your goods in. All items you left on the dock will despawn once you left that island. But i tested it that you can use one of your boats that is moored to an habour as a storage. Even if you sail to an other archipelago all goods, furniture and items will stay at your docked boat.

@Jacmac that is one of the prices that change. if you wait a day and sell it next day it can be more or less. highest price would be 840 in dragon cliffs

Things must have changed. Dragon Cliffs is only offering me 720 for seafood.

I should add something which confused me at first: The price at which you can sell the goods changes randomly between 3 set prices every night. meaning you might not get the best selling price when getting to a place, but if you wait a bit it will go up and you'll make better profits per trip
