Von ʟǟֆȶʟɨʋɨռɢքօɛȶ
Remove the double vision and record a single rectangle in the shape of your monitor.

How it works
Have you ever tried to record a video in VR and realized it records those 2 blocky ovals instead of a nice looking single rectangle like on a flat screen? Well, here's an easy way to fix that.

First make sure you have disabled your "Desktop Capture" in the privacy settings of the Geforce Experience in-game overlay. This force-records a single window only.

When you have SteamVR launched, which is best done after MSFS is already opened, click on the little SteamVR box and look for an option called "Display VR view".

A new window will appear. This will mirror what you see in VR and it will not impact the performance.

Get everything set up and start your flight. Hit record with the SteamVR VR view window maximized, which for me using Geforce Experience is Alt+F9, and move your mouse curser to the bottom corner of the screen so it can't be seen. Make sure it's maximized full screen and then Alt+Tab back to the MSFS window while the VR View window records in the background.

Now you're recording what's happening in MSFS from your VR headset onto a single rectangular image in the shape of your monitor. Congrats, you're done!

Here are two examples of what the above method looks like:

just record it in the Quest record function, you can choose which eye, and which format, and then send it to ur whatsapp, and then download it to ur phone library, edit and put online wherever you want to

Sadly this solution doesn't work as expected.

You see, even though the "Record Desktop" options and so forth have been disabled (in my case, using AMD Adrenalin software), when I Alt+Tab from the full-screened Steam VR view, the recording also switches to the new program i have alt-tabbed to.
In other words it keeps on recording the display at hand, which is MSFS's dual eyes display once i've alt-tabbed back to it.

Does anyone have a solution to this ?

Thanks in advance

Hello, I hope the author of this post is still here and can help me please :)

I am also trying to achieve this, but there are two differences to what you have described.

Firstly, if I turn off the Desktop Capture, that is fine, but when I finally press ALT+F9 it aks me whether I want to use desktop capture and start recording. If I press NO, nothing is recorded, if I press YES, it starts recording, but then we come to my second problem.

Now, I do everything as you said, I have the full screen in Steam VR, press ALT+F9 and it starts recording with the message I just explained, but when I tab back into the simulator, I cannot use my mouse anymore. Meaning I cannot use any switches in the cockpit.

It records a full screen view, yes, but no mouse control in the cockpit.

When I switch back and forth, not totally sure how I achieved it, the mouse is back, but then it records only the stereoscopic view.

Do you have any ideas what I could be doing wrong?

Thanks for your help!

This is a fantastic post. Thank you so much for taking the time to share. I just made a recording of a flight in the Alps and I am very impressed with the result. This is much better than using Occulus Mirror (which did not record well, and has audio issues). Thanks again. Now I will try to see if I can find a way to smooth the view in my Quest 2, or perhaps I will need to learn to keep my head still!

The SteamVR VR View window will display MSFS after you've loaded MSFS and then initialized the VR View window. That's when and where you start recording and then leave it in the background while you fly.

Thank you, I only get a hit when using Occulus Mirror, but in Steam VR the VR view keeps getting locked on the VR Home view, inside the little library.

I just discovered how to crop my videos, I'll just crop out one of the split screens (O'll see which one is the dominate screen and more straight forward looking) and try that. I'll post the finished video.

That way I do not mess with Occulus mirror or Steam VR.

The SteamVR VR view window will not cause a loss in performance since it's just a mirror of the headset display. If you're getting performance loss when recording it's Geforce Experience but it's not supposed to be resource heavy. Works perfectly fine for me.

Steam VR seems to always be stuck on "Playing in VR Home" and only shows the library. Disabling desktop capture does allow me to record with sound in VR now but it causes a huge performance hit during the recording although the game play is smooth.
