NORTE 4200/RENFE 242-0400

In 1913, the NORTE company saw the need to create a new locomotive that could undertake the commuter services between Madrid-Principe Pío and Cercedilla and Madrid with El Escorial and Ávila. A locomotive was needed that could climb the strong ramps of the line, and that did not require turning at a roundabout at the head of the lines.
In this way, a tank locomotive was chosen that shared most of the parts with the mastodon NORTE 4000. This locomotive was redesigned by SACM, whose factory had an unfinished NORTE 4000 that was used as the basis for the future 4200. In this way, using the wheels and cylinders of the NORTE 4000, a rear bogie was added to convert it into a 2-4-2 rolling locomotive, which could circulate in a stable manner in both directions. In this way, a small series of 6 locomotives was created that were assigned to the Madrid-Principe Pío depot, where they hauled commuter and express trains.
With the electrification of the Madrid-Avila and Madrid-Cercedilla lines, the NORTE lines were replaced by electric units of the UT300 series for suburban services. For this reason, the entire series, already named RENFE 242-0400, was moved to Miranda de Ebro, where they were in charge of bus services between Burgos, Miranda and Bilbao. In the late 1960s, the entire series was withdrawn and scrapped, with none of the locomotives being preserved.
This mod brings them back, including two North versions as well as two Renfe versions. The models include sounds and animations as faithful as possible, as well as asset versions for decoration.
