Introduction
Creating gear for your team can be quite confusing and sometimes frustrating due to the random nature of gear crafting. This guide is here to shed some light on the crafting mechanics and how your material choices influence the outcomes.
How to craft a specific item type
Whenever you craft an item, there is a 25% chance to get any of the 4 item types.
You can not increase the chance on any particular item type, no matter if you use 0 or 20 of a specific material.

How to increase your chance on higher quality items
As mentioned earlier, materials do not increase the odds of any item type, but they do increase the chance of getting a better quality item of the corresponding type.

The materials and their corresponding item types are:
  • Sound Chip - Headset
  • Switch - Controller
  • Nail - Chair
  • Fabric - Uniform
(this matches the order they are shown in game)

You need to put at least 1 material to have a chance on purple or golden equipment (of the matching item), afterwards the chances of blue/purple/orange increase linearly as can be seen in images below:

Color coded version:
In summary
With this information there is only really one key point to keep in mind when crafting items:
  • Because the chance on "good quality" equipment increases linearly, it is rarely worth it to add so many items that it increases the craft time (because for 2 weeks instead of 1 to be worth it, all your odds of desired item+quality would have to at least double, reference the graph)
Hopefully this guide can help you nudge the odds slightly more in your favour!

The chart if for each category of equipment. Meaning, if you put in 20 Sound Chips, 15 Switch, 10 Nail, and 5 Fabric, your chances of a equipment are:
Category Grey Green Blue Purple Orange
Headset 3.2% 14.75% 4.25% 2% 0.8%
Controller 6.15% 13.25% 3.5% 1.5% 0.6%
Chair 9.1% 11.75% 2.75% 1% 0.4%
Uniform 12.05% 10.25% 2% 0.5% 0.2%
Total: 30.5% 50% 12.5% 5% 2%

These rows don't add up to 100%? So, if I put in 1 item, there's like a 14% chance of a gray item, 9% green, 1% blue, and basically no purple/orange, but what happens in the other 75% of cases?

You have the same odds of getting good equipment with more items but the odds of getting grays drops more than 3 time between 10 and 20. So i think dropping 20 is better than dropping 10 in crafting

You can click to stop the item rolling on the currently displayed item.

I'm sorry but if you put up 20 items in all slots you should not get a grey item. A waste of 800 gold.
