The Circus: Full Walkthrough (Memory Fragments, Controls, etc.)

One of the reasons a lot of people are saying they don't like this game is because it's "confusing." Because I want people to enjoy the full experience of the game, I figured that this walkthrough may help some of you have a better experience!

Prologue (+ Some Controls)
This is probably the most straightforward part of the entire game.

Because it's easy to skip the controls, here you are for the time being. The controls are akin to the typical RPGMaker controls with only a few slight adjustments. There are a few controls not listed here that may help you, though:
  • Arrow Key + Shift - If you press shift when walking, you'll sprint. However, you can only sprint when using the left shift key.

You won't be able to save for a few minutes while you get introduced into the story.

Feel free to explore if you want, but the only door unlocked is the one on the far, upper left.

Watch the cutscene. You can't skip it, nor can you interact with anything here.

You'll end up in this mysterious room. Feel free to interact with everything if you really want. I'd recommend reading the letter on the floor before heading over to the shiny on the shelf. Read the whole diary.

Oh yeah, jumpscare warning when you're done. Not really a jumpscare, just a "scary" image on screen for second.

You learn that "Tony" likes to hide things under the bed.

Wow, there's a key! And it unlocks the door!

Head up the stairs. Day 1 starts here.
Day 1 (+ Night 1)
After emerging from the stairwell, you end up in this hallway.

Oh, look! You can finally save, too!

That doll is your savior. You'll be seeing her a lot, so make sure to use her as much as possible!

You learn that the doors to the far left and far right are locked. That leaves you no choice but to go straight forward.

After interacting with any of the four children (they all have the same starting dialogue), they ask you for food. You can interact with the other three children as well, but you'll learn little more than they have amnesia and have been locked in their cells for a "long time."

The food you need isn't in any of the barrels, bags, or crates - so don't try. Instead, go back to the hallway and go to the far right. The door is unlocked and you can finally go in.

Keep going right and you'll eventually see two interesting things: a giant sleeping bear and a shiny.

Interact with the shiny. It's a slide of bread!

Grab it and go back to the room with the hungry prisoners. Make sure not to step on any of the bones on your way out - otherwise, you'll die and have to do it all over again.

Give the bread to any of the children and they'll all disappear magically. A shiny is left on the floor. Grab the key and finally go to the room on the far left. It should unlock.

Go forward. Finally, you reach your first chasing scene - there are a few of these. 3 Hearts will show up on the left of your screen, indicating the amount of "lives" you have left. These hearts are only ever used for the strange shadow creatures.

A save screen pops up - use it to your advantage here. Don't forget that the left shift will make you sprint.

Note that you can't avoid your first heart being taken. It's part of the dialogue section.

Nachelle (the protagonist) will be surprised and say "I need to get out of here!" Although there are a few doors, they're all locked except for the one on the upper left. Do not rush to the right at all - you'll reach a dead end. It's easy to avoid the shadow thing, just sprint. If they touch you once, you'll have another heart taken away.

Finally, you've made it to the Circus!

You're greeted by Adrian Garcia and promptly taken into a cutscene. You'll meet the girls a little later on.

The cutscene is just a brief tour by the master of the circus himself. He shows Nachelle to her room and, the moment she steps foot inside it, Night 1 begins.

Our favorite savior, the Doll herself, is in Nachelle's room. Use her!

Interact with anything you want here, but there isn't much to see. Nachelle can't read any of the books due to them being in a foreign language.

Anyways, walk out of the room after saving and go back into the hallway. This is where your first "Nightmare" begins.
Nightmare 1
Note: These parts of the games aren't officially called "Nightmares." However, for simplicity's sake, I will be calling them that in this guide. You'll know you're in a Nightmare when it's night time and everything is a mess. During Nightmare segments, you'll not only collect memory fragments but need to solve puzzles as well.

Welcome to your first Nightmare!

It starts with yet another chase scene. All of the doors are locked, including the one you just came from! Run all the way to the left - even when you get to the entrance room, continue left, and you'll reach the left hallway.

In the left hallway, run to the furthest left door to the Music Room. It's the only one unlocked. The door at the very end of the hall is also locked; instead, go to the left-door that Nachelle is in front of in the screenshot above.

Now, this is probably the worst puzzle in the entire game. It'll get frustrating, but the game will let you make mistakes here.

Upon interacting with the paper on the floor, you'll find a music sheet.

Then interact with the piano. (Note: You'll need to go in-between the bench and the piano. Have Nachelle stand in front of the piano and hold the down and left keys at the same time.)

If you know the treble clef, you may be able to find this out on your own. However, since I assume most people can't: the order of the keys is 1, 2, 1, 5, 4, 5, 3, 2, 1

There's a clicking noise.

Go up to the box on the table - it's unlocked now. Now you have the library key.

Enter the hallway again - don't worry, the shadow creature is gone.

Now you can enter the room on the right of the Music Room.

The Library has 4 shinies you can interact with. While the other three have some interesting books that may or may not foreshadow the story's plot, the only really important one is in the middle row.

You'll get this puzzle here. Just count the amount of each object and do the math.

However, if you hate math or are just feeling really lazy right now, the answer is 8414.

What you're meant to use the code for? Go all the way back to the right hallway (where Nachelle's room is located) and go to the very end of the hallway. There's a door there with a padlock, and the code unlocks it.

Nachelle is unphased by the fact she just walked into a strange doll ritual.

Look around and interact with all the dolls around the circle first. Once you're done, you can interact with the one in the middle.

Touch the shiny.

Congratulations~ You've collected Memory Fragment 1!
Day 2 (+ Night 2)
Nachelle wakes up in her room to knocking on the door.

Adrian promptly tells her to find him in the hallway. I'd recommend using the Save Doll first.

Rather than going to Adrian straight away, go right past him into the left hallway.

Grab the slice of bread. The only way to get your third heart back is to eat enough food.

Go back to Adrian and say you're ready. Enjoy the cutscene!

You're finally properly introduced to the sisters named Vassalia and Edrona. However, Vassalia is obviously upset due to Nachelle "stealing her thunder" at the performance.

After a quick chat with Adrian, Nachelle is left on her own in the dining room. You can explore the dining room if you want, but there's nothing to really see and you can't collect anything.

Go to the door and, just like that, Day/Night 2 is over. Nightmare 2 begins.
Nightmare 2
After leaving Nachelle's room, go to the end of the right hallway.

Mysterious candy! Nachelle's favorite! Grab it and move on.

All the doors are locked aside from the big, wooden door in the entrance area. Go up.

Welcome to the 2nd Floor. You'll see this strange looking ritual circle again with a few "slots" that need to be filled in.

Use the Save Doll and go to the left hallway.

In each room, there will be a cutscene. All are important to the game's overall story. Just interact with what you think will likely trigger the dialogue... it's always fairly obvious. At the end of each cutscene, you'll get a different item.

Go to the right hallway after. Witness each cutscene here, too.

Finally, you should have enough items. Match each item to the slot (this part is also fairly obvious).

It should look like this when you're done. Interact with the final one in the middle after.

A shiny will be summoned. Interact with it. Watch the cutscene.

Congratulations, now you have Memory Fragment 2!
Day 3 (+ Night 3)
Adrian's at the door again.

Watch the cutscene.

Then the other cutscene.

By the time you get back to Nachelle, it's night time. She wants to see Teddy, the lovely giant bear in the basement.

But first! Go to the left hallway, then go into the library.

Grab the mysterious key on the floor. It's okay if you skip this part at first; you'll be able to grab it later on as well.

Go downstairs again.

Then again.

Teddy's already asleep.

Upon entering the hallway, it may look like you're in another Nightmare segment. This is probably an error on the developer's part; all you can do here is take Nachelle back to her room.

However, that door is locked. After discovering this, go to the right and find that area with the tall vent.

The vent is too tall. Interact with the crates and Nachelle will use them to climb up to the library.

If you didn't collect the keys before, collect them now. They should be in the same spot.

Go back to the right hallway. A strange man with a... is that a labcoat? He's standing in front of the door dumbly. Interact with him and watch the cutscene.

He walks off to Adrian's office. Feel free to try and follow, but the door is locked.

All you can do is go back to your room.

Nightmare 3 begins right after.
Nightmare 3
MEMORY FRAGMENT 3 IS EASILY MISSABLE AND IT IS EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING!

Wake up, save, you know the drill by now. This is probably the most confusing Nightmare thus far when it comes to collecting the Memory Fragment.

If you want, you can start off by going to the dining room (very end of left hall), going to the kitchen, and grabbing the knife.

It's called a "Chopper" in your inventory. But I promise, it's a knife.

Go on back to the basement.

Now, this part of the guide will get confusing because... you basically have to bounce between the basement floors. For simplicity's sake,

This hallway will be B2

and

This hallway will be B1.

If you want to get a bad end, you can skip this part here.

GETTING MEMORY FRAGMENT 3

On B1, go to those heavy double-doors in the middle of the hallway. It's locked on every other night, and if you do the main part of the story this door will lock itself again.

You're back in the starting room again! Oh - and there's a shiny on the (top? right? Is this a bunk bed?) bed that you have to touch! This shiny is Memory Fragment 3, also known as the reason most people end up with normal and bad ends without knowing why.

Now that we have Memory Fragment 3, we can go back to what the game wants us to do.

BACK ON TRACK

Go back to B2. Then, go to the far left room that is usually locked. You'll notice that it's unlocked for once.

Interact with the little girl in the middle of the floor crying.

Basically, Edrona lost Vasilia and needs help finding her. Nachelle is told that she's somewhere on the first main floor.

Go upstairs, and go to the right hallway, and now you'll finally get to see the storage room (next to Adrian's office) which is usually locked.

Vasilia is hiding, just like Edrona said she would be. Suddenly, there's footsteps.

Hide in this box!

More cutscene.

Then, take Vasilia back to Edrona, who is in the same place you left her.

Finally, the Save Doll makes her heroic return.

Walk into the room. Watch the cutscene.

Then run away again. This time, run back to B1 where the children in those four cells are.

Once in the cell room, go to this cell here, interact with it, and a... kind of cutscene will begin. Do not move at all when the shadow is looking around the room! You'll be caught and forced to restart the chase scene!

Nachelle wants to go back to where the other two are. They disappeared - and there's a shiny in their place.

This is Memory Fragment 4! If you didn't get Memory Fragment 3 before helping, it's too late to do anything about it!

Interact with it, watch the cutscene, and move on.

You got both Memory Fragment 3 and Memory Fragment 4 in this one night.
Day 4 (+ Night 4)
Nachelle wakes up cuddling with Teddy. It's cute. We all love Teddy here.

Adrian rushes in, concerned... and then tells Nachelle to get ready right after. No breaks for circus performers, I guess.

Cutscene.

Then, go to Adrian's office.

Adrian's diary is left on his desk. However, Nachelle refuses to read it. Try all you want - she's stubborn about it.

Go the library and interact with the paper on the floor.

Someone's really panicked.

Go to the dining room.

Wow! Free cake!

Then, go to the performance area and watch the cutscene.

After that, feel free to interact with Edrona and Adrian. In case you're wondering: I don't believe you're meant to find the medicine box.

Go back to your room. Cutscene.

Nightmare 4 finally begins.
Nightmare 4
Alright, this Nightmare is kinda different.

You end up in the middle of what Nachelle says is a church. She seems to recognize it despite the awful state it's in.

Go to the far right (the left door is locked).

Interact with this altar. Then interact with the shiny and follow the cat back into the church hall.

Unlock the left door. The cat disappears.

Go to the desk and read the diary. A shiny will appear.

Before going to the shiny, read the notes.

Yep. You'll be decoding stuff.

Interact with the shiny and get the blank paper. Then go over to the lamp on the desk and let it catch on fire.

Here are the words you need to decode:

Give it a shot - it's easy, honestly. Just in case, the answer is gluttony, wrath, envy .

Go up to the box on the book shelf and interact with it. A strange padlock is on it.

Match the words to the symbols you found before.

The answer.

You get a key. Go back to the church and interact with the altar.

The cat interacts with the contents inside the alter and runs off before disappearing.

A shiny is on the floor. The other doors in that church area are all locked, so all you can do is interact with it.

You get Memory Fragment 6!

Yes, it is out of order. You'll get Memory Fragment 5 when you do the True End; you haven't missed any so far!
Day 5
Morning routine! Woo. You know what to do. Just save and go outside again.

Go find Teddy. He's in B1, as normal.

Something apparently really smells. Go to Teddy's room.

Teddy isn't responding and there's a green, sticky substance on the floor.

Go to Adrian. He's in the performance area.

Watch the cutscene. At least Nachelle gets a break, I guess?

Grab the bread on the table. Eat everything in your inventory and, finally, you'll get your 3rd heart back. Not that they're important, but... still.

Interact with the bed and sleep.

Watch the cutscene.

Finally, your daily task: find out what the yellow powder is from.

Go to the right hallway.

Yellow powder! Go over to the storage room again, which is unlocked.

Go to the barrel in the back of the room. Interact with it and read the paper above it. We've found out what the yellow powder is.

Then interact with the papers on the table.

Go back to the entrance room.

Cutscene.

Try to go into the door the people came out of.

Adrian appears and tells you to meet him in the dining hall. Follow.

Interact with him. Sit down. Cutscene.

He asks you to take the key back to his office.

Do it. Grab the Sisters' Room key.

Finally, you'll see the room they sleep in that's locked all the time. It's the same room they walked out of earlier.

It's a... stark contrast from Nachelle's room. Maybe Adrian really does play favorites?

Interact with the shiny. Then the diary.

Finally! We reach Night 5.
Night 5
Go to Adrian's office.

Interact with the shiny on his desk.

Do as he says.

Go to the cell room.

Cutscene.

Grab the key. Use it.

Cutscene.

Note: Even if you don't grab the knife on day 3, Nachelle will use the knife in front of the door and stab Vasilia. You can't avoid her death here... I tried.

Watch the cutscene with Wyan. He says some confusing stuff. But still, this is Memory Fragment 7.
Day 6
Wake up. Things are kinda different today: Adrian doesn't wake you up.

Go to his office. He isn't there, but he's left a letter for you to read. Interact with it: it's the shiny on his desk.

Finally, you received a key to the second floor!

Go up this door here.

And here you are. Don't forget to save!

You saw this floor in one of the Nightmare segments already. Finally, you get to experience it during the daytime.

Start off by going into the left hallway. Go to the leftmost door and interact with it.

It's locked, but there's this drawing on it. This is important for the first puzzle!

Go to the door next to it. You'll reach the upper library, filled with shinies for you to interact with! Interact with any of them and a dialogue option will appear asking if you want to push the book in further.

The door is locked. Using the painting above, you can tell what colors of books you'll need to actually push in.

Blue,

Black,

and Red.

The door that just had the drawing on it unlocked! Walk into it and go to the table. Interact with the table.

There's a rusty key alongside a bunch of instructions.

The only one that's important is this one:

Upon interacting with the white powder, you'll be told that you need "something to scoop it with."

Go back downstairs to the dining room.

Grab it. Note: No, you can't grab this before going upstairs for the first time. It only spawns after you interact with the powder.

Go back upstairs to the room the cauldron is in.

Grab the white powder, the yellow potion, and throw them into the cauldron. Yay! You got the key derusted! (No, none of the other ingredients work... I tried.)

Feel free to go back to the library if you want. You're able to read all of the book titles and stuff now, many of which give you information on the story's lore. I missed this my first few playthroughs.

Now go all the way to the right hallway.

It turns out the key unlocks the door on the far right of this hallway. Go in.

Interact with the shinies. Note that no, you really can't reach that shiny on the far right side of the bookshelf. It's useless.

Go to the nightstand and interact with it.

A prompt comes up asking for 4 numbers.

Press X on your keyboard and go to the shiny on the desk on top of the envelope.

Finally, you get to read Adrian's diary!

There's the code that you'll need.

MM/DD... Sorry, British readers. You can't use DD/MM here.

The code is 1031.

You get a pink key. There's only one room you can unlock now: the room next to Adrian's.

Explore!

The return we all waited for... anyways, you can save here!

And finally... interact with the mirror. You'll get a CG now.

Oh! Adrian's back! Except...

You get some semi-strange dialogue. What will he do? Make your game end. Basically, don't try to interact with him once the cutscene ends...

Chase scene! Run back downstairs and go into Nachelle's room. Hide in the closet.

Alternatively, you can hide under the bed and get a CG... but your game will end and you'll be forced to redo the chase. Either that or you'll have hearts taken.

Finally, night time arrives.
Night 6
Go back outside. Talk to Wyan. Feel free to follow him, but he won't lead you anywhere here.

Cutscene.

Take Edrona to the cell room where Nachelle... you know.

Cutscene.

Go to the hall, then to the stairwell to the left. Follow Wyan upstairs.

And now the game endings are split.
Night 6 pt2 - Normal/Bad Ends
Wyan will greet you. Rather than leading you to the next room, he just says that you haven't collected enough memory fragments and disappear.

The shadow creatures are back - just run back upstairs and go to the right hallway, where Nachelle's room usually is. Adrian will confront you.

Cutscene.
Night 6 pt2 - True End
If you collected all the memory fragments, Wyan will tell you this:

Follow him to the door on B2, righthand side. You know, the one that's always locked?

Cutscene.

Interact with Wyan. He tells you everything - what in specific I won't say for spoilers sake. A lot of it is things you've likely already gathered, though.

The CG you get here is Memory Fragment 5.

Wyan kicks you out after. The shadow creatures are back - just run back upstairs and go to the right hallway, where Nachelle's room usually is. Adrian will confront you.

Cutscene.
Day 7 - All Endings
This day is fairly straightforward.

Wake up, read the letter, and change.

Feel free to visit the open rooms on both the first and second floors. Some are locked, but others are open - the open ones all get you dialogue.

The dialogue differs on the upstairs room depending on if you have all the memory fragments or not.

Go to the performance area. Fight Adrian.

Literally fight him.

Dodge his attacks, spam G and F... anything. There are two rounds for fighting him: for round 1, he has 1,500 health. For the second, he'll have 3,000.

Beat him. A quick trick - hold down on shift when moving Nachelle. The game will lag and slow Adrian's attacks and movement.

Now, this is where the real "true end vs bad end vs good end" branch is.

If you do NOT have all fragments needed you can only get a bad or normal end.
  • Good End - Beat Adrian. Enjoy the cutscene. The end.
  • Bad End 1 - Lose to Adrian. Watch the cutscene. The end.

If you DO have all fragments needed you can get the true end or the second/third bad end.
  • Bad End 2 - Lose to Adrian.
  • Beat Adrian - Enter secret boss fight.
[**] Bad End 3 - Lose to Secret Boss. Watch the cutscene. The end.
[**] True End - Beat Secret Boss. Watch the cutscene. Interact when needed. The end.

Man thanks for finally beat Adrian's second phase by pacing myself and the secret boss was actually somewhat hard but I finally got the true end the nightmare is over until we meet again, nice I like that ending. A new beginning the title screen even changed once I got the true end I would much like the see nachelle go on her new adventurer so I hope to see another installment one day
