The Basics of MetaPhysical
By Magalian
A basic guide on the game. Trying to keep as clear cut and to the point as possible. Starting off from a new player's perspective and updating it as I raise in level. Hopefully this will help document some of the changes to the game's items, maps and creatures.

Introduction

Welcome to my little guide for MetaPhysical. in this guide I hope to do at least a basic rundown of starting out on the game, vehicle, items, creatures, and maps as well as the general flow of the game.
Starting Up

Here we have the starting menu. From here you can see some of your statistics for the Creatures you've encountered, your level, your current model/avatar, how much money you have(currency), and any active event.

Most of this information can be accessed in-game readily except for the Current Event information.

The Current Event information is displayed like this(currently). In this example the current event is for gathering Artifacts on maps while in a Mission. Be sure to read the event description as there may be certain requirements. In this it tells you that the Artifacts can only be collected when the Creature is still alive.

Beneath the Event Description you have your Current Progress as well as the Rewards listed.

After going over this Menu you can click the Continue Button in the Lower Right Corner to move into the Lobby/Prep Area.
Preparation Area

In the Preparation Area we have our Vehicle. This we use as our trusty transport between missions as well as hauling about our equipment.

From the Driver's Side of the Vehicle you can access the Mission Selection screen.

On the Passenger's Side you can hit the Go Online to access Multiplayer to engage in the jolly cooperation with other players.

In the Trunk you can access your Equipment as well as the Store and Fashion Menu.
Shop
First and foremost, you're going to need all the doodads to identify and fight the Creatures as you're going about things in the game. To do this you'll need to access the Store to buy them. To do this you'll have to go to your Trunk and Left-Mouse Button(LMB from now on) on the magazine to access it.

Doing this will open up the Shopping Menu. There are currently only 4 pages to the Store.

Items that are greyed out are level-locked and won't be accessible until you have leveled up enough to allowed access to them.

For each item you'll see:

1) An image of the item
2) The item's name
3) Quantity of said item you have/can have
4) Brief description of the item
5) Price of the item

After purchasing any items you will have access to them in your Trunk in the Preparation Area and at your Vehicle when in a Mission.
Equipment
Flashlight

The Flashlight is your general light source in the game. Holding it in your primary gives you the option to cycle between a normal light or UV light or off. When you are holding a different item(say like the EMF Reader) you may hit the T key(by default) to hold your Flashlight in your off-hand. The only items to not allow this action currently are the Shotgun and the Exorcism Book.

Note: The Flashlight being used in your off-hand ONLY allows the use of the normal light source. The UV light is a PRIMARY HAND ONLY action.

The UV light option for the Flashlight is used to gather Fingerprint evidence from Creatures that leave such things behind.

EMF Device

The EMF Device detects Electromagnetic Fields while going around the location. Upon turning it on it will go from having no lights on as well as being silent to having static sound.

While you are in a Mission you use this to locate some Creatures. If the Creature gives off an EMF reading the lights on the top of the reader itself. The readings will vary from 1 to 5 lights.
Salt

Good ol' Salt. When you are looking at the ground you will see a marker on the ground showing where your salt will be place. Upon pressing Right-Mouse Button(RMB from now on) you will place a pile of salt.

You can place up to 3 piles per box before it is used up. There are 2 uses for Salt.

1) Detection and protection. Some Creatures will walk through salt and others won't.

2) Elimination of the Creature. Some Creatures are killed by placing salt on the body and/or burning the body. Most of the time you'll want to place salt on the body after finding it.

Chalk

Chalk is used by looking down at the ground and the outline of a Creature Trap will be shown on the ground where your reticle is. Pressing RMB will place the Creature Trap as shown below.

Each box of Chalk has only ONE(1) use. The Creature Trap is useful for 2 things.

1) Detection and protection. Same as with Salt, some Creatures are stopped by it while others just ignore it. The tricky part with this one is you may need to use a Carpet to hide it.

2) Elimination. Some of the Creatures require you to capture them in a Creature Trap for part of their elimination.
Motion Detector

The Motion Detector does just as it's name says. When holding it you can look at a wall and use RMB to place it on the wall. Look at it and use LMB to remove it.

Primary use is for detection of the Creature. Some are noticed by it and some are not. Another thing of note is that dead players can set off the Motion Detector as well so communication helps a little bit with this one.
Ghost Box

The Ghost Box is like a walkie talkie that you use to try to communicate with the creature. While holding it you press RMB to activated it. While the screen is on you can ask questions into your microphone to see if the Creature responds.

There are a variety of questions you can ask the Creature like:

Are you a man?
Are you a woman?
Are you old?
Are you single?[clips.twitch.tv]
(Results may vary)
Thermometer

The Thermometer does just as it's real life counterpart does in measuring the temperature of an area. While holding it in your primary you can use RMB to turn it on and off.

While it is on you can sweep through rooms to check the temperatures. Normal temperatures are between 12-17.
Holy Water

The most blessed of hydrations. While holding it in your Primary you can use RMB to fling Holy Water like you just don't care... or to fight off ghosts.

Shotgun

The trusty boom stick. This is a single barrel shotgun that will hold TWO(2) shots before you have to jog out to the car to get a reload. To start, you'll have to load your ammunition of choice by looking at either the Silver Ammo or the Salt Ammo in the trunk and LMB on them. You'll hear a reloading sound and you can go on your merry way.

After you're locked and loaded you can go into the house and start a blastin' away using the RMB.

Knife

The knife works just like any other knife you'd find around. Pick it up, make with the stabby using RMB.

Katana

Run of the mill Katana you'd find in a movie or someone's parent's basement. Equip it then use RMB to summon the power of God and Anime.

Gasoline

Just like the stuff people put in their cars if they can afford one. This item only has one use in the game currently and that is for burning up bodies. After digging up a body and opening the casket you can use RMB to douse the body in Gasoline while holding the can. Lighting it takes a Lighter.

Notice how things go from looking normal to having a slight shine to it and it's slightly darker around the casket and the wood itself.
Lighter

A lighter much like you'd get a general store or gas station. Use RMB to light it. This currently has one real use and that is to light Gasoline soaked bodies. Once you have the Lighter lit use the G Key(by default) to toss it into the grave for a nice bonfire.

Shovel

Shovel make hole. Easy as that. Equip it, find the RIGHT GRAVE SITE, then use RMB to dig up the casket then RMB again to open it. No worry about putting the dirt back.

Sake

A nice lil drinky drink time. Hold the bottle then use RMB to sipsipsip. This makes it so you can see certain Creatures that only show while you are intoxicated.

WARNING - This will leave your screen distorted for the rest of the hunt.

Exorcism Book

Yay using words as weapons. The Exorcism Book is another 2-handed item like the Shotgun where you can have your Flashlight in your off-hand while holding it. It's singular use is to EXORCISE THE DEMONS.

While hold the book you will have to recite the lines listed 1,2,3, and 4. As you recite the lines correctly they will turn RED and be crossed off. This means that you will have to repeatedly say the lines if it doesn't register over your microphone or you don't say the line fast enough.

Above is a successfully used Exorcism Book. This is REUSABLE so remember to keep it with you or toss it back in the Trunk before headin' out.
Carpet

Yes... there is a Carpet you buy specifically for hunting Creatures. What is it for you ask? Covering up Creature Traps as some of the Creatures will avoid a trap if they see it out in the open. Please NOTE the Carpet is a one use item and disposable.

When you have a Creature Trap laid down and the chalk lines are solid you can look at the trap while holding the Carpet and see an outline of the carpet over the trap itself. Then you can click RMB to place it and it will look like this.

If the Creature walks over the trapped Carpet then you will see the trap's runes glowing through and the Creature will be stuck there momentarily.

Video Camera

The Video Camera is fairly straightforward to use. While holding it press RMB to bring the screen closer to your face for a better look around. RMB again to pull it back down(usually).

Note that the Video Camera only shows in night vision mode so keep that in mind when working with teammates and the power is on inside the location.

Color Spray

This is strictly a cosmetic changing item for the Vehicle. Easy peasy. To access it you'd have to look to the left of the Shop magazine.

When you LMB on the Spray Paint in your Trunk it will open the colors menu to buy a new color for your Vehicle.

Fashion Magazine

Buying this item from the Shop Menu will place a Fashion Magazine in your trunk that you can interact with. Inside is da wae to changing how awesome ya look.

Upon using LMB on the magazine you will be brought to the available fashions for the characters available.

Mission Selection

If you approach the Driver's Side Door you'll have the option to Choose Mission. This will open a magazine to search through for Locations to go and purge.

1) This is a Location. The picture of an actual place gives away it's where to go. When you LMB on a location you'll CIRCLE IT.
2) There is also just filler/flavor text here or there.
3) The arrows are used to go through the pages for finding a place to go party.
4) Difficulty selection. There are 3 Difficulties to choose from.

5) When you have a Location and Difficulty selected then you can LMB the Let's Go button to start your mission.
Multiplayer

On the Passenger's Side Door we have access to the Multiplayer. By using LMB when your reticle is over the "Go Online" it will load you into your own lobby to being with. The text over the Passenger's Side Door will then change to say "Join" if it loads successfully.

Using LMB on the "Join" will then take you to the Multiplayer Lobby Menu.

Here you see the following:
1) Your current Region.
2) Your Target Region. This is like selecting from a server list for where to host.

3) YOUR lobby's display card. When your friends are searching to join you this will show up in...
4) Open Lobbies List. This is where joinable lobbies are listed with a card similar to the one in 3.
5) Visibility Settings. This is where you set if it's open or closed or if you even show up for your friends.
Maps

House with 2 stories and a basement. Medium sized, good for 2-4 players.

A large factory map. Can be a bit confusing the first time. Recommened for a 6 person team.

This is the tutorial map. Fairly easy to solo or for getting friends used to the game.

Another large map. Can be duo'd though.

Medium sized map. Has a nice basement to check out. Would recommend 3-4 people to explore this one. Most likely can be duo'd though.

Smaller 2 story house, no basement. Another good starter solo or duo map.

Small apartment map. The infested apartment will either be on the 1st floor or the 4th floor. Easy to solo but bothersome if a 4th floor spawn.
Anatomy of a Mission
Starting Off
Upon buying some equipment and selecting a mission you'll hit the Loading Screen for the mission.

On the Loading Screen you will see:

- A Photo with an image of the map and it's name.
- Some flavor text.
- Some tips.

Once you load in you'll be next to your Vehicle. Hit the Trunk and load up on equipment. In this game you can carry up to FIVE(5) Items. Make your way to the front door.

To operate doors in this you will look act the door and when you see the icon showing Close/Open you can hold down LMB and drag your mouse to the LEFT/RIGHT to do the opening or closing.

Once inside you will want to start searching the place for NOTES either out in the open or within drawers. For opening a DRAWER you'll do similar to opening doors. The icon will look as below.

The difference for DRAWERS is you'll drag your mouse UP/DOWN to open and close it. IF a drawer has a NOTE in it then you can look at it then click LMB to read it. This will zoom it in and you can look for a NAME on it.

As you find the NOTES you can go into your JOURNAL(J KEY by default) and go to the EVIDENCE tab(Lower Right Corner) to find the NAMES page.

Here you can hit the PLUS(+) or MINUS(-) key next to the name shown on the NOTES you find.

While you are going through the process of finding the NAME of the Creature there you can gather EVIDENCE.
Evidence Gathering

The EVIDENCE you can gather are shown above. The way this works is as so:

1) EMF/EMF5 - If you get ANY EMF reads(the LEDs on the top light) then you can tick the EMF box. IF it happens to hit an EMF level of FIVE(5) then you can tick the EMF5 box.

2) Cold spots/Minus Degrees - While using the Thermometer and you get lower temperatures(norm is between 15-17) then you can tick the Cold Spots box. IF the temperature drops to NEGATIVE temperatures then you can tick the Minus Degrees box.
(Note that you CAN see your breath in Minus Degrees as well.)

3) If you hear the Motion Detector go off when you aren't near it then you can tick the Motion Detector box.

4) If the Creature responds to the Ghost Box you can tick the box for this. An example of what it sounds and looks like when the entity responds is linked in the section on the Ghost Box.

5) If you find Fingerprints while using the UV Light on the Flashlight then you can tick this box. An example of this is shown in the Flashlight section.

6) If you see an ORB while using the Video Camera then you can tick the box. Example in the Video Camera section.

As you start filling the Evidence up you will notice the tabs for the Creatures starting to grey out.

After you've narrowed down the Creature inhabiting the area you can select it in the DROP DOWN MENU under the Evidence tick boxes you've done. This is labeled as Kreatur.

REMEMBER TO DO THIS

With the critter figure out now we move on to the HUNT phase.
The Huntening
To begin with, select the Creature tab that belongs to the entity you selected under the Kreatur drop down menu. In this example we'll use the Spirit.

1) This is what Evidence you can use to Detect the Creature. When in doubt I usually start with eliminating possible Creatures through evidence they AREN'T leaving.

2) This area is what you'll need to get rid of the rascal that's hanging out there. Burning the body, exorcising it, etc.

3) Shows what you can use to DEFEND yourself. GREEN icons mean it is effective against it, BLACK icons are useless.

4) As you can observe, I have yet to unlock this part. I DO know what they are about though. As SUCCESSFULLY eliminate the meanies you will slowly gain counts towards EXPERTISE for that Creature. This will list the Creature's BEHAVIOR like if they are known to scream, mess with television, and other things. These make the EVIDENCE finding stage easier.

5) An image of the Creature.

With this knowledge you can load up what you need for getting rid of the problem. For a Spirit we'd need to simply dig up it's remains from the nearby grave site then burn the body.

After you have finished up with the hunt you can go back to the Vehicle or hit the ESC KEY and select "Finish Job".
Returning to Lobby

As you are loading back to the lobby you will see the above screen. This is a rundown of how the Mission went. The point values vary based on the Difficulty of the Mission. After going over your results you can hit the ESC Key to be officially done with the Mission and be back at the start.
End/Credits
That's about it I can think of for putting into this beginner's guide. If I go more in depth on the maps and Creatures it'll be in a separate guide with possible videos when I have the time. The Creature section I made into it's own guide since sometimes there are translation errors and it can be helpful to have that as a quick reference for people to pull up.

Big thanks to:

Hi :)

You cannot change the lines of the exorcism book. It's Latin. But the speech recognition is quite tolerant so you chouldn't have too many problems^^
