Xenogears - A 1998 JRPG for the PS1

Xenogears is my favorite game of all time, offering the best story I ever read, outstanding characters, charming Soundtrack and an amazing gameplay. I played so many games in my life, but no game I played surpasses Xenogears, an absolute Masterpiece. 10/10


DEEP Analysis: Xenogears is a complex game to analyze and understand, so I will explain it the best I can:

First of all, Xenogears is more than a JRPG, It offers a unique but impactful gameplay, you can say It's a Turn Based JRPG, but it has a lot of elements that goes beyond a simple Turn Based JRPG.
For example, every character and enemy has different types of Speed, which affects the number of turns during battles, this makes the battles more organic and more interesting, It also uses a Combo system where you have to chain certain moves to increase your attacks during those turns, you also have spells and other basic elements from JRPGs, you also have ''gears'' battles, where you control a huge mecha and cause destruction, these battles offers some unique elements, for example, you have to worry about fuel, without it you can't attack propertly, but offers some interesting effects like Boost, basically doubles your turn speed, or combo levels, the higher the level, greater damage but also greater fuel consumption, the world is open world'ish with a great amount of dungeons, most of them offering gimmicks and special objectives, making them very memorable and fun.

Second of all, Xenogears has one of the best Soundtracks I ever heard, the battle themes are overwhelming to some extent but fits the situation pretty well, the world music is in my opinion perfection, not only are memorable but also charming, offering a good variety of instruments, styles and sound effects, creating one of the best OSTs for a JRPG.

Third of all, Xenogears visuals is what I would consider a rebelious act, the reason why is because during 1998, most JRPGs used the same style: pre-rendered world (essentially an image) and 3D characters, Xenogears is completely the opposite, uses a 3D open world that aged quite well, looking gorgeous even currently with the combination of 2D sprites for the characters and 3D models for the Mechas, this concept is extremely smart, especially during this era.
The font and other elements are also very pleasant to see.

Fourth of all, Xenogears' characters are extremely well designed, Villains as well, their arcs and backstories are just perfect, offering different point of views, morals, ethics, beliefs and lots of development.

Last but not least, the Story of Xenogears is simply way ahead of it's time, not even current games dare to talk about the topics and aspects that this game has, from Science to Religion, from Philosophy to Psychology, from Existence to the meaning of the Universe.

Xenogears is simply a biblical-like game, It's simply titanic in every aspect, It's so big that it even has a ''History'' book that gives every small and big detail called the ''Perfect Works'', I totally recommend to read this book after playing the game. https://www.flickr.com/photos/29956195@N08/sets/72157616593453778/
