What is ET: Legacy

ET: Legacy, is an open source project that aims to create a fully compatible client and server for the popular online FPS game Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.
Intructions
The process is simple as pie.

Install ETLegacy in your W:ET folder and rename ET.exe to any other name. Then rename the ETL.exe file to ET.exe. That's it.

I haven't tested this with other launchers, but it should work just as well. (I just made it for Legacy because that's the one I'm using, so please let me know if it works, so I can update the guide accordingly).

Enjoy, now Steam will always launch the etlegacy client instead of the vanilla game.
Benefits
Apart from being able to log your hours, and flex on your friends, what it also allows for is to more accurately represent the number of players on the Community HUB.

And remember, the game is not dead as long as you can find at least one server full with players.

On the last note, empty or low pop servers usually fill up quick if people see that others are joining, so don't hesitate and be that first one to join!

Keep on gaming!
Alternatives
There is also an alternative that makes use of symbolic links that has been brought up to me by a commenter, some people may find it better suited to them.

You'll find a link to it here:

If you found this to be better be sure to let the original creator know!

See ya!

I can see the video, you're probably talking about, and it's nice, but I think that the simple method of renaming the executable is just too fast and easy not to go with it. I can see the benefit of it, e.g. if the game got updated (which at this point is unlikely) or the mod, and that messed with the executables. Thanks for pointing that out, it's always nice to have some options. I think I'll try to feature that in my guide from now on.

It seems this works well; however, I have created a guide from a yt video that allows you to use the ETL.exe without having to rename it (via symbolic links). I have read that there are some benefits in avoiding renaming?

No problem mate, I think they are dead because they run the regular client, while you may have more luck finding players on one of the servers running the launchers. I might be wrong, it's been more than a month since I last played. And thanks for the award, glad to be of help.

and I'll give you another award for being super f*cking helpful. I loved this game, seeing the vanilla servers announcement was an up, logging in and seeing them dead was a downer. Your post gave me a glimmer that I could play this again.
Cheers

I'll just rephrase it to be easier to read.

Your "I haven't tested but this should work as well with other launchers." was probably read by them as you not having tested your own guide instead of as you intended, which was "I haven't tested to see if this works FOR OTHER LAUNCHERS, BUT IT WORKS FOR THIS ONE"
also it wasn't in like, all caps and in crayon so I misread it for a sec. Happy Hunting, thanks for the heads up

Don't really know what seems to be the problem?

Bruh if you make a guide, then you should test it first.
What a lazy approach, especially if you say fix is soooo simple...well, then fken do it. You have a guide for it, don't you?
