How to do it
Locate your autoexec.cfg file inside ...steamapps\common\Wolfenstein Enemy Territory\etmain
If there isn't one open notepad and then type:

seta r_mode -1
seta r_customwidth "1920"
seta r_customheight "1080"
seta r_customaspect 1

Change the values of customwidth and customheight to whatever your native monitor's resolution is. Once you do that press save as and name the file autoexec.cfg (THE EXTENSION NAME IS IMPORTANT, IF YOU SAVE IT AS autoexec.txt IT WON'T WORK). Save it inside etmain

And that's that. If you have any problems ask below

Smiley Launch options I think you want "1920" "1080" not "1920" "1090"

For anyone who can't make this work with autoexec.cfg file try the following solution:
In the Steam library, select the wolfenstein enemy territory, right-click and select Properties and Set Game Launch Options in the drop-down menu and write there: +r_mode "-1" +r_customwidth "1920" +r_customheight "1090" +set com_hunkmegs "256" +vid_restart

When setting your custom screen settings make sure in windows display settings magnification is set to 100%

another great change to make especially for ETL and larger maps is to change hunkmegs to 256 or 512
