The armor cap is around ~560, with ~80% damage blocked. In all honesty you could cap it with steel armor and some potions with your skill at 100 and some enchanted items.

funny enough, if you have your smithing up high enough to create dragonbone, then you are already hitting the armor cap with upgraded armor. You can actually hit the armor cap with steel armor if you have 100 in smithing and some alchemy/enchanting for potions of fortify smithing. Daedric and dragonbone are both relativly useless

It's not wasted if you got dawnguard installed. With it you can forge dragonbone weapons which are the best weapons to be crafted. Also dragonbone armor weighs less than daedric.

ps dragon scale and dragonplate wears around 20 less weight so you can carry more for the exact same armor. check my screenshots youll see for yurself:

have fun focus on your enchants to put your gameplay to a point where you will have fun not where youll get bored out of your mind because you ended up 3 shotting alduin in legendary mode

from your description i have to guess that you havent play skyrim for a long, if not sorry it wasnt intentionnal. in the next line i will describe you the basic knowledge or armor to dmg reduction. if it sounds liek im lecturing sorry its not my intention
armor cap ~560 , 25 hidden armor per piece of light or heavy ONLY you can achieve that with 2 pieces of dragon scale armor of your liking by upgrading them to legendary +100 smithing+ dragon smithing perk and a set of 30% smithing gear +161% smithign potion 168%if you did a double alchemy loop. the only real thing that matther in this game is to enjoy it, and have fun playign something that can be challenging being a walking powerhouse in skyrim is irrelvant the max armor you can achieve is 1700 with the above smithing and max dmg is 1k for a 2handed mace or bow
